[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 142857] Clone Formatting inappropriately applies paragraph style

This is true for non-buggy behavior. If a behavior is a long-standing bug, we
don't need strong arguments to fix it. In this case, it seems there is
agreement that the default behavior is a bug, and that the user expects
otherwise.

You know, I never would have guessed this in a million years... but this would
make for a separate bug I guess.

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today, I could reproduce this.

I gave a try with https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/136815.
I modified line width + color, it worked. I suppose more tests should be done
but meanwhile let's consider SdrObjKind::Edge/connector line as supporting
format Paintbrush until we find a blocker.

BTW, I tried "git grep -n 'Clone Formatting'" and got

So if Impress has also modifiers, perhaps we could use "Clone Formatting

I got no strong opinion here, I let UX/UI judge but as always, when changing a
long time ago default behaviour, we need strong arguments since people may
complain about this change.

During pasting more precisely:
- select the source text to copy format
- click on the icon format painter
- click on the target (and let it clicked)
- press Ctrl just before and during the "unclicking" (it corresponds to event
MouseButtonUp). It's at this very moment that it's taken into account.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149853] New: Impress Screensaver Activates During RDP Even With User Input

2022-07-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149853

Bug ID: 149853
Summary: Impress Screensaver Activates During RDP Even With
User Input
   Product: Impress Remote
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: General
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: cassel.t.aus...@proton.me

Description:
Introduction
When two computers are communicating over RDP, with computer 1 controlling
computer 2, computer 2 connected to an external monitor, using the most recent
version of LibreOffice and presenter console enabled, computer 1 will go to a
blank screen (screensaver) after ~1min:30sec which will revert after pressing
Esc on either computer 1 or 2. Tested with Pop!_OS.
Troubleshooting
The presenter console should listen for mouse activity during presentation from
the remote computer, however, this is not occurring. The presentation does not
go to screensaver if the Next and Previous buttons for the presentation console
are used within the time period.
Solution
There are multiple possible fixes, first, LibreOffice should listen for
activity over RDP. Second, a setting to control screensaver over RDP needs to
be added. Third, a setting to change the screensaver over RDP timeout period.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Connect two computers using RDP, known reproducible using Pop!_OS with
Remmina.
2. Connect the controlled computer to an external monitor.
2.Open an Impress presentation with presenter console enabled.
3.Start the presentation and control it only with keyboard or mouse clicks, not
using the presenter console buttons.
4.After ~1 minute and 30 seconds the screen will go black on the controlling
computer.

Actual Results:
The presenter console view for the controlling computer (1) will go to a black
screen after 1 minute and 30 seconds of inactivity from computer 1. Computer 2
does not change in view, only computer 1.

Expected Results:
The controlling computer, computer 1, should not go to a blank screen with
inactivity.

Reproducible: Always

Thanks for diving into the code about this :-)

I've never used Clone-Formatting with Ctrl or Shift pressed before - having no
indication that this would do anything. I still believe the default behavior
should not be to copy paragraph attributes without a paragraph, or
end-of-paragraph, being selected.

Also, just for information's sake - when do you press the modifier key? During
copying or during pasting?

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today, I could reproduce this.

You can avoid cloning paragraph attributes by keeping Ctrl pressed.

@devs or @someone who knows a bit of coding
Investigating a bit, I found this bt:
#0 CreatePaintSet(WhichRangesContainer const&, SfxItemPool&, SfxItemSet
const&, SfxItemSet const&, bool, bool)
(pRanges=..., rPool=..., rSourceSet=SfxItemSet of pool 0x482a5d0 with
parent 0x0 and Which ranges: [(1068, 1093), (4008, 4027), (4028, 4060)] =
{...}, rTargetSet=SfxItemSet of pool 0x482a5d0 with parent 0x0 and Which
ranges: [(4008, 4064)] = {...}, bNoCharacterFormats=false,
bNoParagraphFormats=false) at svx/source/svdraw/svdedxv.cxx:2710
#1  0x7fa46ebc3b18 in SdrObjEditView::ApplyFormatPaintBrush(SfxItemSet&,
bool, bool) (this=
0x4be1a70, rFormatSet=SfxItemSet of pool 0x482a5d0 with parent 0x0 and
Which ranges: [(1068, 1093), (4008, 4027), (4028, 4060)] = {...},
bNoCharacterFormats=false, bNoParagraphFormats=false)
at svx/source/svdraw/svdedxv.cxx:2855
#2  0x7fa45a2a9842 in sd::FuFormatPaintBrush::Paste(bool, bool)
(this=0xaa1d900, bNoCharacterFormats=false, bNoParagraphFormats=false) at
sd/source/ui/func/fuformatpaintbrush.cxx:253
#3  0x7fa45a2a9512 in sd::FuFormatPaintBrush::MouseButtonUp(MouseEvent
const&) (this=0xaa1d900, rMEvt=...) at
sd/source/ui/func/fuformatpaintbrush.cxx:181

"CreatePaintSet" is given the ranges which includes "EE_PARA_START,
EE_PARA_END"
(see
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/svx/source/svdraw/svdedxv.cxx?r=d2dfc0c4#2652)
but has also a param called "bNoParagraphFormats".

If at true, this parameter means "don't take into account paragraph format".
But here, this parameter is false.

Now when taking a look at sd::FuFormatPaintBrush::MouseButtonUp, we see:
168 bool bNoCharacterFormats = false;
169 bool bNoParagraphFormats = false;
170 {
171 if( (rMEvt.GetModifier()&KEY_MOD1) &&
(rMEvt.GetModifier()&KEY_SHIFT) )
172 bNoCharacterFormats = true;
173 else if( rMEvt.GetModifier() & KEY_MOD1 )
174 bNoParagraphFormats = true;
175 }

so it seems the by default behavior is to copy the whole thing and if we want
less, we must use modifiers (Ctrl/Shift).
Taking a look at git history shows it's like this at least since 2004.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 91586] Filesave: Impress does not properly open 90º rotated text in an ODP copy of a PPTX

2022-07-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91586

The text rotation belongs to the 'vert' attribute in pptx. It is converted to
property "TextPreRotateAngle" on import. You see the property inside
"CustomShapeGeometry" property using the Develment Tools.

ODF has no way to store this text rotation. I have tried a discussion on the
dev-list how to export this to ODF, but without success. My current suggestion
would be to use writing-modes, as it is done for frames.

In theory we can change width and height of the text area rectangle of the
custom shape. But that would conflict with using predefined shape types.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149832] VLOOKUP Returns Inaccurate Value when it can't find a lookup string

Hello Mike,

Thank you for your response to my bug report. I have to tell you that I think
the current implementation of the VLOOKUP function is not good.
Here's how I think it should work--just for your information:

When vlookup does not find a matching record in a sorted array, it should NOT
return the wrong value by default. It should return "Not found" or "N/A" or
some other user definable optional description that allows the results to shows
that the lookup could not be found. That should be the default result of the
function in that case. The user wouldn't know/think s/he should have to
include an additional argument in the function syntax, such as the current
function description shows. The default result of the function should match
what makes common sense. When no match is found, the function should return
that status "Not found" as the default result--not return info from the
previous record when the function failed to search further in an
ascending-sorted data array.

I also noticed that the function treats "" & 0 as both TRUE & returns "0".
That also doesn't make sense to me. It should return exactly what is within
the cell--either a null or a 0, NOT a 0 for both cases. I want to know from my
results whether or not the found data is really a zero or missing data within
the data range.

What can you do to change the function so that it returns the common sense
results that one should normally expect to get?

Thank you for your time & consideration.

I am not stupid! Something is wrong.

On your site, version 7.3.4 is for “technology enthusiasts” and version 7.2.7.2
for “business deployments” and users who are not “technology enthusiasts” (what
you call “Still branch”?).
Version 7.3.4 should not be suggested to them, unless your site is not up to

2022-07-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147296

As of LO 7.5 there's still a problem.

When you click the down arrow and start typing something, the cursor will be in
the "search items" box (as expected) and the typed text will appear there.

However, if you move the mouse over the filter options, the cursor gets stuck
in the "Filter by condition" entry and it is no longer possible to type text.
The user needs to click the text box again.

When the filter options dialog is open, whenever the user types something it
should appear in the "search items" box.

This wasn't the case in LO 7.2.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149832] VLOOKUP Returns Inaccurate Value when it can't find a lookup string

2022-07-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149832

FYI: MS Excel, obviously, also saw VLOOKUP syntax not optimal; that's why, when
designing their XLOOKUP [1], they made exact match the default.

XLOOKUP is not in Calc yet (tdf#127293). Hopefully you would enjoy it when it
arrives.

Note that the "treats "" & 0" is not specific to the discussed function, and
the implicit conversion of data is also part of the standard. It will also not
change. Spreadsheets have very long history, and their use has lots of
inherited stuff, created to try to fit the widest audience possible, with
completely different background and expectations.

Scrolling up and down with the scrollbar works fine.

NEW
On my Mac Mini (MacOS Monterey Version 12.4 Processor 3.2 GHz 6-core Intel Core
i7) when I open a new Writer document and drag/drop one or more .png images on
the page often the cursor changes to a spinning wheel and LibreOffice stops
responding (that's what is says when, after a couple of minutes, I click Force
Quit.)

After about a minute of not responding, a duplicate icon for the .png file goes
from the page back to the icon for the file.

This just started happening yesterday. I deleted LibreOffice and
downloaded/installed the one I mention above - that didn't help. I restarted my
Mac, that didn't help.

That would be fine and that's what I'm used to with OpenOffice 4.1.1.
With Libreoffice 7.3.4.2 it's less than 1/5 the width of the screen.
I am running Windows 10 home 20H2 with 3840x2160 resolution. The scale is set
at 300% to get the text a reasonable size; the size of the box does not change
with the scaling

Any ideas how it would be better are irrelevant. The function is defined in the
ODF standard [1]; and the definition there was not arbitrary, but it followed
the long-established rules (coming from Lotus 1-2-3, or maybe even VisiCalc).
Every spreadsheet software implements VLOOKUP that way; and doing otherwise
would break infinite number of existing documents.

So this is NOTABUG, and this must not change.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149848] New: Writer: Highlighting crops preceding italics erroneously.

2022-07-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149848

Bug ID: 149848
Summary: Writer: Highlighting crops preceding italics
erroneously.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.0 all versions
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: stefan.hoe...@t-online.de

Description:
When highlighting characters in italics, the preceding italicized characters
are cropped erroneously, whereas setting the background color yields pristine
results.

Steps to Reproduce:
Consider the following to be an arbitrary sample:
1. Set font to Liberation Serif.
2. Type a capital 'K' in italics.
2. Type a capital 'L' and make the 'L' subscript (non-italic or italic).
3. Highlight both characters.

Actual Results:
The upper right serif of the 'K' is clipped erroneously. In general, the
previous character is truncated erroneously.

Expected Results:
Like the Background Color function does. (This is a bad workaround since it
colors the whole paragraph's background.)

Reproducible: Always

Use Microsoft Word as a possible reference.

svx/source/sidebar/possize/PosSizePropertyPanel.cxx and its associated ui,
svx/uiconfig/ui/sidebarpossize.ui are for modifying the position and size in
the sidebar.

Search for "Protect" shows these results:

$ git grep -l ">Protect<" *.ui
cui/uiconfig/ui/possizetabpage.ui
cui/uiconfig/ui/swpossizepage.ui
sw/uiconfig/swriter/ui/frmaddpage.ui

Second file (swpossizepage.ui) is for Writer. First file (possizetabpage.ui) is
for other applications (Impress, Draw, Calc, etc.). Third file (frmaddpage.ui)
is the second tab ("Options") of the Image/Object/Frame dialog box. It is
handled inside sw/source/ui/frmdlg/frmpage.cxx, and some parts of it becomes
hidden there. Other tabs are also ui files that are handled inside frmpage.cxx.

One should be able to do this task by changing frmpage.cxx and associated uis.

Please see the linked release plan.

The cut over from previous release to current release is time based. It is time
for the cut over to be noted via the "update checks"--yes offering 7.3.4 now
might be a couple of weeks early (7.4.0 will be out mid-August) but in sum this
is appropriate as 7.2.7 *is* EOL.

And yes, the landing page for the downloads still reflects 7.2.7 as Still and
7.3.4 as Fresh--that will be updated as 7.4.0 is released.

For now updates are not automatic--just the notification that update is
available. You still have complete control as to performing an update--or not.

hi,

there is this option among autocorrect options: "apply styles",

and I left it checked... assuming it is not a bad thing :)

anyway, I didn't know what that meant...
and I had to go google, search phrase, matches list overview, click, and read
the help page... down to where "apply styles" were placed...

SUGGESTION:

it would be great if a popup info appeared "on mouse over",
like in the toolbar icons' case, for example...

above "apply styles" it could be read: "Automatically apply a Heading 1-8 style
when a text starts with an uppercase letter and does not end with a period...
see more in the help page";

it would be great help, making the learning curve much steeper! :)

Item 4 has nothing to do with automatic hyphenation. It discusses the hyphens
that are put between parts of compound adjectives *in normal cases* (not as
splitting inside a word to move its part to the next line), and discusses the
use of such adjectives without hyphenation inside titles. The hyphen in
"gender-neutral language" vs "Gender Neutral Language" is put manually, and -
as said - does not relate to auto-hyphenation feature.

I agree that "Protect" is more suitable to be put inside "Position and Size"
tab, but there is one important problem: The lack of enough vertical space.

I personally use LibreOffice with GTK3 UI with display set as 2x mode, because
of my screen is high dpi, and I want to achieve a reasonable size of the UI
elements.

Right now, most of the LibreOffice UIs are OK for me, but this specific UI is
completely full vertically, so adding more elements will cause it to go off
screen.

If a re-arrangement of the UI elements does not increase the height of the
window, I think it would be good.

Already in 3.3.0.

For me the hang happens if I switch to Center, and then to Left / Right.
If I only switch between Left and Right, there's no hang.

  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: qid...@qq.com

Description:
The 7.4.3.2 that has just been upgraded detects whether there is a new version
and shows a failure

Steps to Reproduce:
1. menu
2. click help
3. click check for updates ...
4. status: “Checking for an update failed.”

Actual Results:
Checking for an update failed.

Expected Results:
You should prompt "Already have the latest version" or find a new version and
prompt for installation

Module: StartModule
[Information guessed from browser]

The previous version of 7.4.3.2 seems to be 7.3.3.2, I clicked "Detect New
Version" to find 7.4.3.2, after installing 7.4.3.2 "Detect New Version"
function is like this. I have a normal network and can access libreoffice.org
and other websites, which I don't think is caused by network problems.

Hi Stuart,
Thank you for your explanation.
My wife has got problems in the past updating too early to the « fresh »
version.
Nevertheless, the whole process is not very consistent for a normal user...
Have a good day!

Yes, only if formatted text with link is pasted to comment.
If link itself is pasted as text, it flows properly until AutoCorrect.
I'll set New so far, although this was explained in bug 39910 etc.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149741] Confusing icon for adding column in libreoffice writer

(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #10)
> I'm surprised that we got into the label-changing business
See comment 3.

But after further experience, I now agree that "Before/After" should not be
changed -- and understand that the solution requires either:
 (a) a redesign of the Before/After icons themselves so that they are
direction-independent (if at all possible) and if not, then
 (b) a coding change to provide the correct icon to the "insert column"
commands according to the "text direction" set in the table properties.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149837] only one master document

2022-07-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149837

I cannot see what end goal this proposal is trying to achieve. The proposal is
to limit LibreOffice to only allow no more than one master document open at a
time - but the reason is absolutely unclear, worded as "life can be easier for
NAVIGATOR" and "there could even be a full window "dashboard"", where both are
themselves unclear - what would the "easier life" mean? what is the
"dashboard"? Is the real request (or two) in fact to create *some* (which?)
better workflow with Navigator, and to implement something called "dashboard"?
Then please instead create two separate requests, with clean explanation of the
respective problems, and clear requested functionality, and only after that,
you could *maybe* *additionally* suggest that it *possibly* could be
implemented by the restriction you proposed here. Otherwise - it is very
clearly an XY problem [1].

Indeed, even with the Extended Tooltips option enabled there is no tooltips for
items in a listbox as is the case here.

Clicking the Help button in the bottom left corner leads to the correct help
page though.

If we have a scrollbox it makes sense to do the onwheel action without focus
but for all other controls I agree that before changing the index of a
dropdown, the value in a spinedit, etc. it has to become focused.

Plus, when focused the cursor should also remain located over the control to
avoid wheel action with the cursor somewhere else (as it's a matter of fact
today for kf5 and gen but not gtk3).

Caolan, is this a big effort?
