[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 152011] New: Improve Help Online (main0000.xhp and main0100.xhp)

2022-11-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152011

Bug ID: 152011
Summary: Improve Help Online (main.xhp and main0100.xhp)
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.5.0.0 alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Documentation
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: buzea.bog...@libreoffice.org
CC: olivier.hal...@libreoffice.org

Description:
https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/swriter/main.html?DbPAR=WRITER#bm_id3149687
- main.xhp
One of the points on the page is “Using Databases in LibreOffice Base”. It’s a
bit strange. On the page introducing LibreOffice Writer we read "base" twice in
a sentence. This is the reason I never click it, because I would like to use
Writer, not Base. Could be changed to “Using Databases in LibreOffice Writer”,
of course using Base.

- main0100.xhp

The order of menus in Writer is Table, Form. In Help is Form, Table.

File: “These commands apply to the current document, open a new document, or
close the application.” -> “These commands apply to the current document,
create a new document, generate a document based on wizards, open an existing
document, or close the application.” (open a new document->create a new
document, open is referring to existing documents)

View: “This menu contains commands for controlling the on-screen display of the
document.” -> “This menu contains commands for controlling the on-screen
display of the document, changing the user interface and accessing the sidebar
panels.”
Form: “Contains commands for activate form design mode, open control wizards
and insert form controls in your document.” -> “Contains commands to activate
form design mode, enable/disable control wizards and insert form controls in
your document.”

Table: “Shows commands to insert, edit, and delete a table and its elements
inside a text document.” -> “Shows commands to insert, edit, style and delete a
table and its elements inside a text document.”

Tools: “Contains spelling tools, a gallery of object art that you can add to
your document, as well as tools for configuring menus, and setting program
preferences.” -> ‘Contains spelling tools, redact options, mail merge wizard,
macros, development tools, extension manager, as well as tools for configuring
and customizing menus, and setting program preferences.’

Waiting for sugestion.

Well, I took a look of your screencast. You set the text grid, then selected a
portion of the text and apply character spacing. The spacing was not shown,
this is expected. Then you disabled the text grid, and then you see that the
spacing are shown for that portion of the text you have applied spacing, this
is also expected.

Am I missing something?

> 6. Select some text and set character spacing
In this step, on which dialog do you set the character spacing? Is it Format >
Character > Position > Spacing?

For me, when I open your test document, select all, then changing the character
spacing on Format > Character > Position > Spacing, none of the character
spacing is changed. This is expected, as the page has Text Grid enabled and the
paragraph has "Snap to text grid (if active)" enabled thus the characters
should snap to text grids and any explicit character space setting is ignored
by design.

To let the character spacing taken into effect, you need to disable text grid,
or disable the "Snap to text grid (if active)" for this paragraph (select the
paragraph and uncheck this option on Format > Paragraph > Alignment).

I set this to NEEDINFO and awaiting your clarify.

Dear Yousuf Philips (jay) (retired),

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Probably not what you want (i.e. dynamic fg/bg theme adjustments) but we
already have functional handling now if you set the Tools -> Options ->
Accessibility 'Use automatic font color for screen display'. Not checked
active by default.

=> WFM, but room to improve the "granularity" of the UI elements defined in
Application Colors, to define per LO module themes, and to provide better UI
for users to build their own color themes and by-pass os/DE provided themes.

Hi Stéphane,
I tested the issue several times and I am astonished: the problem has
disappeared with LibreOffice and with OpenOffice as well!
In the meantime I had a number of software updates - probably there is the
reason.
I am going to deactivate OpenOffice, use LibreOffice only and if I find no
problem till the end of this year we can close the issue.
Thx and best regards

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 152010] New: Add Native Support for Extension Icon Theme

2022-11-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152010

Bug ID: 152010
Summary: Add Native Support for Extension Icon Theme
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.5.0.0 alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: riz...@libreoffice.org

A few days ago, I contributed to creating a Colibre icon theme with some of its
variants (SVG, light, dark) for Zotero . An enthusiastic person has done a PR
(https://github.com/zotero/zotero-libreoffice-integration/pull/73) to add
internal support some icon themes. Unfortunately this PR was rejected by
upstream Zotero for a pretty good reason.

Departing from the discussion I recommend a feature for LibreOffice core to
provide an API or convenience for extension developers to support icon themes
automatically. That is, when the user changes the icon theme the extension
automatically follows the icon theme that the user chooses. This may seem
trivial, but it's great for increasing usability e.g. for visually impaired
users can enjoy Sifr icon theme fully in addition to eye candy related stuff.

Step to reproduce:

1. Use Sifr icon theme
2. Install Zotero
3. Zotero still use "fresh" previous Colibre-like theme

When Stage Manager activated.
Bad window management behavior.
It only switches document windows the first time with "Command+~" (shortcut),
then to be able to switch again by shortcut, you have to switch to some other
application, and go back to LibreOffice, then, it works once again, and then
stops working until you switch to some other application again, and on and on.
You can click to switch windows, but shortcuts doesn't work well.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 126546] Reset character style on paragraph break (see comment 23)

(In reply to ajlittoz from comment #34)
> ...
>
> Also, when I split a paragraph, I expect *all* layers to keep their present
> settings.

I agree *if there are characters right to the split point*. When sketching some
document, I start with headings only. In order to add on, I enter a space
before the paragraph mark and split before that space, then a headline of the
same level is created (otherwise it would continue with TextBody, the default
after any heading in my default stylesheet). I remove the space immediately
when actually writing the next heading. If I wnat to change levels, I look up
at the display of the headline-level and press as needed.

The general rule seems to be: Continue formatting in the same way as *to the
left of the insertion point*. This rule is broken by .

normal*bold* in a line, adding xyz after normal continue normal. It yields
normalxyz*bold*

However: pressing and continue writing xyz yields

normal
*xyzbold*

Try it!

>

agreed for the next line becoming a list item. You can easily terminate the
list property by pressing twice. You can easily prevent a number or
bullet by pressing after . Getting rid of formatting can be
more difficult since it can stem from DF or CS.

>...

agreed: Then we need other means to see it a glance. Two years ago, Heiko
Tietze made a nice proposal:

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 152008] New: Critical, Freezes when switching thru Document Windows

2022-11-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152008

Bug ID: 152008
Summary: Critical, Freezes when switching thru Document Windows
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.3.7.2 release
  Hardware: ARM
OS: macOS (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: guillermo_...@hotmail.com

Description:
Freezes when switching Documents Windows.
Open Libreoffice, create (or open) a file, then create (or open) another file,
when you switch from one document window to the next, after less than 5 seconds
later it freezes.
Must Force Quit. After restart "fixes" the files, but you can't have two files
open at the same time. It is really bad when you must work with several files
open at one time.
Might be 2 empty files or very complex large files, it doesn't matter.
Same happens with Writer.

MacOS M2 Running Ventura
Version:
7.3.7.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build:
Environment.
e114eadc50a9ff8d8c8a0567d...
CPU threads: 8: OS: Mac OS X 13.0
User Interface: Ulrender: default; VCL: os Locale:
en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Ul: en-US
Misc:
Calc: threaded

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Libreoffice
2.Open/Create a file, then open/create another file
3.Switch from one file to the other.
4.Wait a couple of seconds and it Freezes up

Actual Results:
Crash

Expected Results:
Keep working as usual

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
It started happening after a MacOS Update to Ventura, I never had anything like
this before.
Now, I have to open one file, work with it, remember what I did, close it, open
the related file, "Allow Updating" (it stills loads the stuff from the other
file), and keep working after what I did on the other file.
It is Very, Very difficult and time consuming.

It does the same if you do it with writer, just open writer, create a file,
then create another empty file, switch windows and it Freezes

Sample file (same font size in text and comment)

(In reply to Caolán McNamara from comment #5)
> I haven't checked this case yet, but it would be interesting to reexamine
> with a recent daily build and see what differences might persist.

So I built the current master today and the issue with the comments still
persist. The rendering of text in the comment box and in the document are very
different.

Build info:

Version: 7.5.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: c819aa06069ec3ea4f2f51d26a77f455740b828f
CPU threads: 16; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+xcb)
Locale: pt-BR (pt_BR.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: CL threaded

Here is a new sample file. It's very similar to the first one, but now the
comment and the document use the same font size (12pt). Notice that the width
of the rendered text changes a lot, as well as the spacing between characters.

--- Comment #4 from nicolas.duvern...@laposte.net ---
Hello
I created a block 2columns x 10 rows with some data in it in cells A1:B11.
Select them, copy, and paste at G6
Press Ctrl-Down (a previous comment was right, I apologise...), and selection
cell comes to G11, whereas I expect it to come to G16
Or, even more funny :
Start with some data in A1:B11.
Select cell A1. press Shift-Control-Down then Shift-Control-Right. The block is
now fully selected, and most highlighted cell is still A1.
Now press Ctrl-Down, and you land at row 1048566.
OK, let's go back to A11, and paste.
Then Ctrl-Down and you arrive in A33.
Copy once again the block in A23. Ctrl-Down lands in A55.

Currently, I'm running a fresh install of Xubuntu 22.04 LTS (after that I tried
Kubuntu 22.04 too). I didn't change anything on LibreOffice.

The OS is configured for Spanish language.

The LibreOffice path for Temp files is set up at: /temp.

The path for Documents it's: /home/myusername/Documentos.

Such files don't appear when I use Firefox, but when I use Writer.

If LibreOffice 7.3 includes new WebDAV based on libcurl, perhaps it's it.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=145648

What used to happen is covered in the slides of
https://events.documentfoundation.org/media/libreoffice-conference-2022/submissions/B87ZBP/resources/LibreOfficeCon-2022-ResolutionI_2TieDK1.odp
where writer's text rendering used to do something very different to everything
else.

For 7.4 I put in the new approach but was pretty conservative and made the new
way of doing things "opt in" and only the "main window" of writer was opted in.
I think its been reasonable successful, so I've pushed the boat out a little
more since then, and with
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=495922fd4ac07d4b7c16127b222f1d06a2718399
I'm hoping that its more universal.

I haven't checked this case yet, but it would be interesting to reexamine with
a recent daily build and see what differences might persist.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 147469] Positioning of mouse on "Default Button" not working with some dialogs such as Paste Special in Calc (gtk3 and Windows)

Works for me on Windows builds in all rendering modes--Skia Vulkan, Skia
raster, default GDI and GDI with Hardware acceleration.

Version: 7.5.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: d8856123f72d243b45fe52b7d3dbb87aa35ce0ba
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Version: 7.4.2.3 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 382eef1f22670f7f4118c8c2dd222ec7ad009daf
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Where the three "modes" for Tools -> Options -> View Mouse 'Positioning:' list
box:

'No automatic positioning', 'Dialog center', 'Default button'

all function.

Following STR of bug 131467 with a selection of cells on a calc sheet, and
pointer selecting another cell, context menu to select Paste special, context
menu for Paste Special... dialog.

Each setting for Mouse Positioning does reasonable things to position the mouse
pointer when set, e.g. no movement of mouse pointer from selected cell, or
movement to dialog center, or movement onto the default 'OK' button of the
dialog.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 152006] New: The "Apply" button on the "Text Grid" dialog does nothing on second-click

2022-11-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152006

Bug ID: 152006
Summary: The "Apply" button on the "Text Grid" dialog does
nothing on second-click
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.3.7.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: suokunl...@126.com

Steps to Reproduce:

1. New Writer, Foramt > Page Style > Text Grid. Select the grid type "Grid
(lines and characters)", then click "Apply" (I say Apply button, not the OK
button).

--> Text grids are properly set, that's good. Do not close this dialog.

2. Uncheck the "Display Grid" checkbox, then click "Apply" button.
--> Grid is not visible, good.
Now check the "Display Grid" checkbox and click "Apply“ again.
--> Grid is visible, good.

3. Now, click "OK" button to close the dialog, open this dialog again, uncheck
the "Display Grid" checkbox, click Apply.
--> Grid is not visible, good.
Now if you check the "Display Gird" checkbox and then click Apply again.
--< The grid is still not visible (i.e. nothing is applied at the 2nd Apply).

Current Result:
In step 3, the first time you make a change and click Apply, it applies, but
the second time you do it it does nothing.

Expected Result:
When I click the Apply the 2nd time, the changes should properly be applied.

It seems that all the controls on this dialog have this kind of problem.

Reproducible on 7.3.7, 7.4.3 and master.

Version: 7.5.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 96442f149ca46ad3c4b96ef81beac39fef642785
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.0; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: zh-CN (zh_CN.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

@Caolán, given your recent work with text rendering in Writer, could you please
give your thoughts on this issue?

Why is text rendering inside the Comment box so different to the rendering in
the text document? Is it possible to render the text in the comments the same
way they're rendered in the document?

I don' reproduce the problem. Can you please provide more information on what
the problem really is?

So, when I paste the 10-row range, the pasted range is already selected. If you
press Ctrl+Down it will move to the next range below the selected range (since
it is already selected.

Hi Nicolas, thanks for reporting.

When I copy and paste a range of cells, the pasted range is already selected
right after Ctrl+V. So there's no need for Ctrl+Shift+Down to select the entire
range.
