[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 153416] Some buttons are white-on-white on macOS

2023-03-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=153416

I think there's a mix of different things in here, the original one in comment
#1, and comment #11 is a button in an infobar and that looks like a duplicate
of bug #152486

It's certainly plausible there some "Auto" related problem wrt comment #16 and
buttons in normal dialogs, doesn't happen for me if I manually toggle the
system from dark to light while it is open, but maybe there is some
notification we miss if Auto is enabled and that triggers. I wonder if there is
a way to control the "Auto" so that can be freely tested at any time rather
than waiting for sunrise :-)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 154187] New: Allow for static assignment of comment background color to a user

2023-03-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154187

Bug ID: 154187
Summary: Allow for static assignment of comment background
color to a user
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.6.0.0 alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: dolez...@cvut.cz

Description:
Currently the comment background colors in Writer seem to work in a way where
every user has a color to differentiate comments from different users at a
glance. That is very nice in theory, however it is severely hindered by the
fact the colors seem to be assigned randomly every time the document is loaded,
meaning you cannot depent on comments in specific color being from a specific
person.

I propose there be a mechanism for assigning a color to a user, so that the
comments are simple to differentiate between multiple sessions as well.

I can't reproduce that issue on 7.2.7.2 nor on 7.5.1.2.

Could you please update to a currently supported version and test again? Only
version 7.4 and 7.5 will see further bugfixes.

Another thing to test is Help > Restart in Safe Mode, to see if the issue
relates to your user profile.

The blue line usually denotes a grammar issue, and has an explanation of what
the issue is above the suggestion. Can you see anything there?

Thank you!

patch to illustrate the problem better

I debugged this a little and:

The column is 0.92cm wide, so ~521 twips wide.
The numbering is aligned at 0.50cm, so there are 283 twips to the left of the
alignment and 238 to the right of the alignment.

As far as I can see the initial calculation for these numbering portions is
done with a width of *238*, not 283. So the width of 11 is 231 and is
considered ok, but 10 is 240 which is wider than the 238, so 10 is line wrapped
to give just 1 and that 10 positioned as if it was only 1. So calculation
appears to be done as if the numbering was left aligned.

attached is a debugging patch to illustrate the problem if someone else wants
to take on the task of figuring out what the right thing to do is. I find the
problem in both the earliest version of LibreOffice I have and AOO, so I think
its fundamentally inherited from OOo

Protecting sheets/cells does not prevent them from being recalculated.
And if your Apple names it Command, all others name it Ctrl and I won't write
"Ctrl or Command"+ whenever talking about..

And why on earth you or someone else would or would not hit F9 on whatever cell
I don't know, fact is there is no guarantee that a formula is not recalculated
and produces a different result if it contains a function that depends on
datetime or other changing criteria.

I'm tired of this discussion.

> I'd prefer to have this "export all slides to image" as an extension.

Then someone, a third party not directly involved with the Document Foundation,
would need to invent and maintain it. Result: feature death the moment the
person becomes bored, distracted, or otherwise just no longer wants to maintain
it.

Heaping useful features on the community to maintain, rather than mainstreaming
them into the product itself, touches upon a real and endemic problem with
open-source software endeavors: the haphazard, and eventual discontinuation, of
support.

A programmer at the Document Foundation could look at the current export
option, see there's only 6 lines more lines of code to add, and be done with
it, rather than foisting the work on a fickle network of volunteers building,
maintaining, and eventually running away from the extensions they create.

It would be nice, if you reported the printing issue. New bugs can be bisected
and the causing commit found exactly. Possibly the same could be done to this
slowness issue, if we only got an example file to test with.

Forget about my Comment #2 above. I tested it wrong.

Now I ran the following code:

Sub TestMid
Dim MyString
MyString = "The dog jumps" ' Initialize string.
Mid(MyString, 5, 3) = "fox"
MsgBox MyString
Mid(MyString, 5) = "cow"
MsgBox MyString
Mid(MyString, 5) = "cow jumped over" ' MyString =
MsgBox MyString
Mid(MyString, 5, 3) = "duck" ' MyString =
MsgBox MyString
End Sub

In MS VBA we get:
"The fox jumps"
"The cow jumps"
"The cow jumpe"
"The duc jumpe"

In LO Basic we get:
"The fox jumps"
"The cow"
"The cow"
"The duc"

It seems that when you omit the "Length" argument, LO Basic cuts off the
remainder of the string.

Also, when the resulting string is larger than the original string, MS VBA cuts
off the difference and keeps the string length, whereas LO Basic increases the
string length.

So yeah, I believe they both should work the same way.

Well, that isn't the problem. The problem starts if you keep on working with
the database *without* saving it, after you have made alterations to reports or
forms or queries. Adding a few entries or editing some, and eventually LO will
just stop working. That's what I experienced and reported.

I can reproduce the issue on Windows with the current development version (git
master) as of commit 982b550541cc68670cad222e921fd62a4c1f232c. Interestingly,
NVDA starts announcing the items once the mouse has been hovered over the
control.

This may have the same root cause as described in bug 140762 comment 1.

It works fine with Orca on Linux with the gtk3 VCL plugin.

Already the case in 6.0.0.3

And in OOo 3.3, we didn't have line numbers but the breakpoint column was on

It does not seem to do anything, and may not be needed (because there is a

The gtk case uses a true GtkTreeView and so uses whatever search mechanism gtk
uses.

The other cases are using a SvTreeListBox and it does look like it just
searches for an entry that starts with the last pressed character, unlike the
ComboBox above which will show Exit if you type Ex. So acting like the ComboBox
makes sense to me, there is some sort of 500ms timeout on the ComboBox at which
point the accumulated search word is cleared and new keypresses start a new
word.

2023-03-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=153905

Done more testing.

The problem appears to be specific to some PDF viewers, including Okular. When
you print from them the font gets corrupted.

Hence in the end this is probably not a LibO bug nor a font bug, but a bug in
some PDF libs used in popular viewers. However, it might be the case that the
PDF is not fully compliant and that some viewers can handle minor lacks of
compliance while other cannot.

I have opened an issue with Okular https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=467328.
Let's see what the Okular developers say.

In the meantime, I cannot say whether it is better to keep this issue
tentatively open or not.

1. Select a string in a text document.
2. Insert - Index Entry
Actual and Expected: Selected string appears in Entry box.
3. Modify the entry (e.g., add or delete characters)
4. Select "Apply to all similar texts"

Actual: The *original* selection is used to match (and insert) index entries.
Expected: ??

The documentation already says that "Apply to all similar texts" cannot be used
for manually entered texts.

=> any modification of the selected text in "Entry" should deactivate the
"Apply to all similar texts" control.

(the actual behavior after modifying the entry does not matter -- if it becomes
impossible to select "Apply to all..." -- because the modified entry would
simply be inserted where the original selection was made, without searching for
other instances.)

Marking as "minor"

Guess this is a gtk3 tool, it doesn't work with gen or kf5. Typing letters
jumps to the first item starting with this character. We could silently search
for the entered word, meaning some cache that stores the word and per cursor
up/down you find the next/previous, eg. for Fade) or we add an input field to
make this function explicite. I'm not a fan of this idea as it clutters the
dialog. Or just resolve WONTFIX?

Caolan, what do you think?

Seems to affect both the banner and some dialogs.
Note that duplicate bug 153949 and attachment 185951 might be triggered when
the OS theme switches automatically depending on time of day, whereas OP and
comment 11 are in OS light mode.

The original proposal is here

but couldn't be implemented for the image part as it is over-simplified and
does not cover all options from the past resp. specified in the open document

I can confirm that this does not work in LO Basic:

Mid(MyString, 5, 3) = "fox"

In LO the Basic interpreter thinks this is a boolean test and returns False,
since it evaluates left and right expressions and then checks for their
equality.

I'm not sure if it would be possible to have such construction in the current
implementation of our interpreter.

Alain, do you know of any other LO Basic function that works similarly to this?
