[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 157127] Make "Merge adjacent line styles" merge between tables

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 157127] New: Make "Merge adjacent line styles" merge between tables
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157127 Bug ID: 157127 Summary: Make "Merge adjacent line styles" merge between tables Product: LibreOffice Version: 24.2.0.0 alpha0+ Master Hardware: All OS: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: medium Component: Writer Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: jim.av...@gmail.com Description: This is an ENHANCEMENT REQUEST to make the table attribute "merge adjacent line styles" merge borders between touching tables, as well as between rows within the table. Currently that option merges borders only between internal rows. This prevents double-width borders when adjacent rows (which have borders) appear together, but keeps the borders when a page break intervenes. However if two TABLES are adjacent (touching, no paragraph between), there is currently no way to prevent doubled borders and still have correct behavior at page breaks. If, for example, the top border of the tables is set to 'none' then doubling does not occur when the tables are adjacent, but when a page break intervenes then the first table on the next page appears with no border. USE CASE: Any table containing multiple sub-groups of data may want sub-groups to be kept together, but allow breaks between groups. The "obvious" solution is to put each group in a separate table with "allow table to be split" disabled. However then borders necessarily appear doubled between the sub-groups (i.e. where the separate tables touch), for the reason explained above. In my case I use a tool to generate "phone directory" type listings in an ODF document using a small table for each entry (https://metacpan.org/pod/ODF::MailMerge). There was an "ask Libre Office" thread about this which incorrectly advised users to delete top or bottom table borders to avoid doubled-up borders - see https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/writer-prevent-table-from-breaking-between-two-rows/45476 IMPLEMENTATION IDEAS: The existing "Merge adjacent line styles" appears to be implemented with the 'table:border-model' property, set to 'collapsing' (with Merge enabled) or 'separating'. Personally I think this existing feature could be silently extended so that 'collapsing' means also merge the outer borders of touching tables. There would be no effect on existing documents unless they contained tables with outer borders which were touching each other -- then the doubled borders would become single-width border (or the thickest one, using the "stronger attribute wins" rule). However if it is deemed necessary to introduce a new switch, then an LO extension would be needed. Could that just be a 3rd value for table:border-model (such as 'collapsing-enhanced')? I don't know anything about ODF extension protocol so can't say. Steps to Reproduce: n/a Actual Results: n/a Expected Results: n/a Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: n/a -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 157120] pasting column with empty cells gives error
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157120 --- Comment #11 from ady --- (In reply to CSV from comment #9) > Pasting "cells" is really pasting the CONTENT of cells, not an empty > skeleton. FWIW, that is not accurate. Generally speaking, you paste not only content but also formatting (whether permanent or conditional, or both). But, you could use "paste special" in order to paste content only, or format only, or using other special options in order to obtain different results. (In reply to m.a.riosv from comment #10) > BTW, not pasting empty cells means that if in the destination range are not > empty cells, they remain with their content, when they shouldn't. I think this is not the case presented here. We are not talking about "skipping empty cells" when copying or when pasting. We are talking about "not-pasting" the "end" of the entire column(s)/row(s) under specific conditions, when the source – column(s)/row(s) – was copied "entirely" and the destination area/range would be smaller, so as to allow a simpler selection of the source and destination ranges (from the users' perspective). The area/range to be paste-on would be replaced, according to the kind of paste action (e.g. all, values only, formatting only…). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 155917] Writer crashes when inserting ODT file containing PDF into table in another ODT doc
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155917 --- Comment #14 from konsultor --- Created a fresh odt file with the table started empty (5x7, no heading) with same file name as earlier version (is that acceptable?). Have annotated this table with steps 1), 2), etc. describing what i did. After pasting PDF file, moving cursor to a blank cell, and using Edit/Repeat there is no effect visible to me. PDF files are not stacked on top of previous pastes--there is only one image per cell. Have not previously noticed the Insert/Section operation. Never used it, would have to research what it is. Did not use CTL+V for pastes. After pasting odt file (individual card) into table with Insert/TextFromFile, I move cursor to another cell. When clicking Edit the menu shows explicitly the repeat of paste option. Click on Repeat and Writer crashes consistently. You are on version ahead of me (7.5.5 vs 7.5.4). I wait for openSuse to update and 7.5.4 is their latest. I'm not very experienced with this bug reporter and have made duplicate comments so I hope the first odt file with the table has been overwritten with the new version. Also notice the previous attempt to upload odt file that is inserted failed--seem to have it this time :-) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 69039] ACCESSIBILITY: Support Windows Speech Recognition
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69039 --- Comment #11 from Brad --- OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Education OS Version:10.0.19045 N/A Build 19045 if I even attempt to use windows speech to text and it actually engages the Libra office program crashes every single time without fail. Could you please improve this as people like myself have injuries and can't necessarily type through traditional methods & can't afford some other speech to text program either? Thank you, very kindly. It looks like the solution would be to implement Microsoft's tech services framework within the application which should allow speech to text Microsoft application to function without crashing the program 100% of the time. Could any of the contributors give some guidelines on how this problem would be approached and solved? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 157120] pasting column with empty cells gives error
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157120 --- Comment #10 from m.a.riosv --- BTW, not pasting empty cells means that if in the destination range are not empty cells, they remain with their content, when they shouldn't. To avoid assumptions, it's the better way to avoid mistakes. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 157120] pasting column with empty cells gives error
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157120 --- Comment #9 from CSV --- Sorry if my terse language upsets you, sometimes it is needed to get the required attention. Pasting "cells" is really pasting the CONTENT of cells, not an empty skeleton. Selecting a column is easier than scrolling down to say, line 123892, where the remaining 924784 empty cells have no value, other than to create irritation, and slow down the work. With over one million cells in a row a manual error checking is a non-starter. If you have to read a manual to use software there is a missed opportunity of intuitive usability. The attitude I usually get from developers is: "not a bug, suck it up" which is an attitude I find unacceptable. I have used Calc since early 2000's and found it useful, for a lot of things. The famous alternative with more than 10 times the executable size has excelled in crunching large datasets, where this one, 10 years ago, froze the PC for a very long time. Oo/Lo Calc is my goto spreadsheet program, to my coworkers chagrin, even-though the famous alternative suite you can now find for $30 - $50 for a perpetual license. That one misses out by rolling out tone-deaf improvements that makes blood pressure go up. I appreciate the work you guys do for this program. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157116 --- Comment #8 from ady --- (In reply to Colin from comment #7) > (In reply to ady from comment #4) > > While typing-in a function, we (users) already have a tooltip (on the input > > box bar) suggesting possible functions. After the opening parenthesis, the > > tooltip helps with the arguments. IIRC, these tooltips can be configured > > (ON/OFF). > > > I can't seem to find this. I can find extended tool tips but that only seems > to cover the mouse hover tips. Could you give me a clue where to look? Thanks The answer has at least 3 points. On a new Calc, (with AutoInput set to ON): A.1. Click on the input box (formula bar) (or on the "=" symbol on the formula bar). A.2. Start typing-in the function "=SUM". You should see a tooltip suggesting possible functions, located near the *input box*. A.3. Add the opening parenthesis, "=SUM(". The tooltip suggests arguments. A.4. Press [ESC] twice (as we don't need to go further here). Now click on some cell (in order to focus on it) that is more centered on the screen; cell E10 for instance. B.1. Press F2 (or double click on the same cell E10), or directly start by typing-in the "=" symbol, in order to enter into cell's edit mode (and to introduce a formula). B.2. Start typing-in the function "=SUM". You should see a tooltip suggesting possible functions, located near the *cell*. B.3. Add the opening parenthesis, "=SUM(". The tooltip suggests arguments. B.4. Press [ESC] twice (as we don't need to go further here). Now go to menu Tools > AutoInput to set it to OFF. Then repeat the steps above (A and B); the tooltip should not be displayed this time. So, again, the precise location of newly-suggested tooltips (or any other artifact) is relevant, and whether it is displayed should be configurable. Let's not forget that we (can) have other artifacts near or around each cell (comments/notes; formula indicator and hints; tooltips; trace arrows…) and editing "in-cell" is already a problem for some users. (In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #5) > before going too far down this rabbit hole would like dev input as to amount > of effort (i.e. would incremental value results during formula input even be > available). I agree; let's wait for some very relevant feedback/comments. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
