[Bug 158588] Redesign font embedding options in sfx2/uiconfig/ui/documentfontspage.ui
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158588 --- Comment #16 from Heiko Tietze --- (In reply to Tomaz Vajngerl from comment #15) > I wouldn't check it by default. This should be checked when it is known the > document will not have any major edits in the future, which would use styles > that are not yet used in the document. So you save 50MB Noto fonts just in case it might be used later? Quite unlikely that you share a document with people around the world who want to edit your document but don't have the proper font installed. The default should be off. > How do you know what kind of text is written in the document - currently we > don't know this. I rather the user makes a explicit decision about this. Why do we need the CTL/CJK/Latin options at all? Embedded should be enough. (In reply to Eyal Rozenberg from comment #12) > the Save/Save As... dialog didn't ask me whether I wanted to embed fonts. I suggest to discuss the consequences of shared documents in an extra ticket. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Bug 156443] Windows: alt+numpad doesn't work for Unicode decimal codes, like in WordPad/Word
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=156443 --- Comment #8 from Mike Kaganski --- (In reply to libretist from comment #7) The proposal here is based on the status *prior* to bug 158112. You may recall, that you wrote bug 158786 as a "regression": before the assignment of Alt+Number to sidebar panels, you could normally use the ALT+168 combination, and get what you expected. As explained in comment 0, the *combinations starting with 0 or greater than 255* weren't processed correctly. Values below 256 were processed using Windows WM_CHAR message, which contains a resulting character value, but only truncated. So the whole text there discussed how to enable *also* greater values. Then comment 3 (not mine) could confuse people, because it suggested this proposal as a "solution" to bug 158112 (which is it not, and can't be). As you noted in bug 158112 comment 22, even Alt+single_digit is a useful special character combination. But in any case, before writing things like "Many characters ... are not handled by your method", one needs to make sure they understand what they object to. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Bug 158588] Redesign font embedding options in sfx2/uiconfig/ui/documentfontspage.ui
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158588 --- Comment #15 from Tomaz Vajngerl --- (In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #13) > To tackle the problem we suggest to check the "only used fonts" option by > default and disable it until the first "do embed fonts" option is active. I wouldn't check it by default. This should be checked when it is known the document will not have any major edits in the future, which would use styles that are not yet used in the document. > Furthermore it could make sense to check the script types depending on what > is set under tools > options > language. So far unchecking CTL/CJK has no > effect on the font embedding options (remains available and checked). That probably makes sense, but I can still write Japanese in the document even when I don't have "Asian" enabled in the settings. > However, if the document contains no CJK text it makes not much sense to > embed such fonts - and we wonder if those options make sense. How do you know what kind of text is written in the document - currently we don't know this. I rather the user makes a explicit decision about this. BTW. CJK and Complex will not have much effect unless you actually use a font that extensively supports CJK and Complex. For example use Noto Sans - the numbers I get in this case are (and I have no CJK or Complex language support enabled): Default: 9.4kB Embedded: 52.4MB Embedded, "only used": 31.7MB Embedded, "only used", only Latin: 1.5MB -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Bug 158818] New: same style eats list ordinals' border box

It's hard to understand without seeing images. So please have a look at the screenshots here: https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/strange-bug-in-libreoffice-writer-same-color-eats-borders/99735 Steps to Reproduce: 1. create a list 2. style the list so that the list ordinals have a border box 3. also assign a custom style to the list ordinal, e.g. bold + blue color (I don't know if step 3 is a requirement, but that's my test case, so I mention it to be safe) 4. now assign the same style to the adjacent text (including the first character after the ordinal - this is key, because if the first character does not have the same style, the bug does not occur) Actual Results: the list ordinal's border box disappears Expected Results: the list ordinal's border box should not disappear Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 7.6.4.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: e19e193f88cd6c0525a17fb7a176ed8e6a3e2aa1 CPU threads: 1; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 16299; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-US Calc: threaded -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
[Bug 158588] Redesign font embedding options in sfx2/uiconfig/ui/documentfontspage.ui
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158588 --- Comment #14 from Tomaz Vajngerl --- (In reply to Eyal Rozenberg from comment #12) > First, I don't see why it's legitimate, that an editor whose native format > is ODT would make changes to an opened ODT which is saved with no user > actions. The input ODT is just fine as an output ODT. No idea what you're trying to say here. > Second - the Save/Save As... dialog didn't ask me whether I wanted to embed > fonts. Who told LO I was willing to embed _any_ fonts? I sure didn't! At the > very least it should let me get to another dialog where that setting is > present - if not outright have it in the Save dialog. I get asked about PGP > encryption but not about font embedding; why? True, I agree you should be able to review and change the settings from the "save as" dialog, not just font embedding, but various other properties as well like document descriptions, author, purge statistics, document signing,... > Third, how come the choice of whether or not to embed fonts is a property of > the document? I mean, it can tell me whether it _has_ embedded fonts, but > how can another person's document hold a preference of mine? This is weird. > Does the ODF mandate this? Because to embed fonts is a decision that needs to be done for each document depending on the use case and font copyright situation, and removing the embedded fonts choice is also something that needs to be explicit because it can have document structure implications. For example: - The document you use will always only be read and edited by you - no need to embed fonts. - Next document you will want that share so you want it to preserves the structure for others because there is a good chance that the fonts you're using they don't have - you select to embed fonts. - You get a document with embedded fonts, but you don't have the fonts installed on your computer and open the document, the structure of the document will be correct. Then you change the document and save it - the document will still have the embedded fonts - next time you open the document it will still display correctly. If this wouldn't be per-document choice, this use-case would fail silently. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
[Bug 158816] Dependence on ~/Documents
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158816 --- Comment #7 from gra...@harris.net.nz --- Created attachment 191555 --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=191555=edit Menu; Edit; Links to external files This is what I see when I go to Edit; Links to external files. In each case only the file name is shown in the list but when expanded below the /home/graham/Documents/ is prepended. If I 'Break Link' on one of the external files, then save and exit, when I re-open the file then I am not prompted regarding that file any more (as expected). And the data in the column which is supplied by the file of the same name in the current directory (same as the 'master' spreadsheet) is still there in the master, so clearly it is coming from the correct sub-sheet, not the phantom in /home/graham/Documents/ So for me, I can resolve this issue just by breaking all the links, and I knew that. [Bug 157961] Sheet tab selection area UI direction flipped based on sheet direction
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157961 --- Comment #10 from ady --- (In reply to Eyal Rozenberg from comment #9) > although I think > that people will get used to sheet tabs just following the UI direction, > soon enough, That is not a realistic assumption for some users, IMO. If an old user has dozens of workbooks built a decade (or 2 or 3) ago, they were built with the consideration of the old behavior. And old users adapted their own workflow to the behavior that was available back then, for decades. It is possible that, for new workbooks, the new behavior will be adopted by old users. Or maybe not, because muscle memory and old habits are hard to forget. Is the old worksheet tab “jumping” behavior preferable? Probably not, but after decades, forcing a new behavior on everyone is not going to be welcome, as proven already in recent reports. Both alternatives should be offered; old “jumping worksheet tab” behavior, and UI-locale-dependent behavior. Unfortunately, RTL issues keep piling up faster than they are solved, for decades now. There are several items that cannot be really considered one by one, but as a whole (also proven by recent attempts to solve the problem, only to anger users that do not agree on what the adequate desired behavior should be). * Location of the worksheet tab according to RTL worksheet setting, or IOW the old "jumping" tab when the worksheet is changed from RTL to LTR or vice versa. * Location of the worksheet tab according to UI RTL or UI LTR; no "jumping" worksheet tab. * Behavior of the action of introducing a new worksheet tab; where the new tab will be located?, will it be RTL or LTR?, dependent on what?, what other default settings should users expect regarding the new worksheet and within it, and depending on which settings? * Location (right or left) of Column A, or IOW "direction" of the columns in the Column header from Column A, B, C, and up. * Location of the Row header (which should always cross the Column header wherever the "origin/zero" point would be, near Column A, whichever the location of Column A would be). * Text direction (RTL or LTR) within the cells is another thing; let's not mix. * Text direction within the worksheet tab itself (worksheet name, e.g "Sheet2" in English) is another thing; let's not mix. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

This is not resolved by re-saving the file. Expected Results: None of these error dialogs should have been displayed- there are no actual errors affecting the data load. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: Yes Additional Info: The subsidiary files to load are identified by formulae which create their filenames (with no path) from hard-coded values in Sheet1 like: ="solarview+2023+killigray-elevation-60-azimuth-"&"-table_mhr-monthly" If I change the formula to ="./solarview+2023+killigray-elevation-60-azimuth-"&"-table_mhr-monthly" then the same errors still occur on loading the master spreadsheet but it actually cannot load the subsidiary spreadheets from the current directory. In Safe mode the 'master' sheet does not load all subsidiary sheets automatically, instead "Security Warning Automatic update of external links has been disabled.". When I click Allow updating the problem as described above is replicated. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Bug 100584] With an RTL sheet, make added sheets RTL as well
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100584 --- Comment #33 from ady --- (In reply to Andreas Heinisch from comment #30) > Should we revert this fix? This causes to many regressions. Let the sheets > jump around. > bug 157961 bug 158552 bug 158768 This may sound rude to some readers; please don't take it like that, as it is not my intention. If anyone cares to actually carefully read those reports, all those consequences were already foreseen and mentioned before, more than once. The solution is to actually pay attention to what users are reporting. The Row header and the worksheet tab have been "jumping" for too long. Some old users might already be used to it and even might take advantage of it. But that is because there was no better behavior for such a long time. So users shrug and adapt (but are not happy with the situation). So, in that regard, the solution *for the worksheet tab* is to provide 2 alternatives for users to choose from: A)leave the old "jumping" behavior, or B)set the side according to UI locale (RTL or LTR). And what about the Row header? Whichever the location of the first column (Column A), the vertical Row header should always cross the horizontal Column header on the "origin, zero". Whichever the side that "zero" would be. The patch in comment 25 attempted to put the worksheet tab according to UI RTL or UI LTR, but screwed up the Row header crossing point! Hopefully this comment will be (carefully) read, with the same sincere and thankful spirit I have when attempting to convey the problemS with these RTL issues. Let's see if we can start over in Bug 157961. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Bug 157961] Sheet tab selection area UI direction flipped based on sheet direction
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157961 --- Comment #9 from Eyal Rozenberg --- (In reply to William Friedman from comment #8) I obviously agree with William regarding the default. I don't mind whether this is made configurable or not - although I think that people will get used to sheet tabs just following the UI direction, soon enough, and may not really want to switch to the current behavior. But this is speculation on my part. If the option of a dialog popping up is chosen, I would like to be able to configure it so that it will never come up (i.e. always stick with what I've chosen as default). I don't have a strong opinion about whether having such a dialog is a good idea or not. Maybe it depends on how intrusive it would actually be. Perhaps it could be something like a small bubble popping up next to the sheet tabs rather than a full-blown dialog? I wonder. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Bug 157961] Sheet tab selection area UI direction flipped based on sheet direction
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157961 --- Comment #8 from William Friedman --- I wrote a long comment for bug 157784, but in the interim the bug/regression was solved by (thankfully!) reverting the problematic patch. The issue of the ordering of the sheet tabs remains, however. Since, like Mahmoud there, I use an LTR interface but work very frequently with RTL-only and mixed LTR/RTL spreadsheets, I figured an additional opinion might be of use. The simplest and most elegant solution, IMO, would be to make this aspect of the UI easily configurable, e.g., an option could be added, e.g., under "View" there could be an option "Display Sheet Order" with two radio buttons "LTR" and "RTL." The default behavior could follow the user interface unless this option is changed, although I can imagine two other solutions: 1) Follow the directionality of the majority of the sheets (this fails if there are an equal number of LTR and RTL sheets); 2) The first time a sheet of different directionality than the UI is created, a pop up could appear: "Switch direction of sheet order?" (A similar pop up could also deal with the failure case of option 1.) (Regarding Mahmoud's larger complaints about UI tinkering, I am reminded of the lengthy discussion in bug 155494 regarding a change in cursor behavior that many of those commenting thought was poorly-considered. Perhaps there needs to be a "public comment" system for proposed UI changes in which users could give their input and vote.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
