[Bug 159549] New: FORMATTING LO Writer 7.6 and 24.2 alter settings of Text Body paragraph style when renaming style as Body Text

2024-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159549

Bug ID: 159549
Summary: FORMATTING LO Writer 7.6 and 24.2 alter settings of
Text Body paragraph style when renaming style as Body
Text
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.6.0.0 beta1+
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: kennethrburk...@proton.me

Created attachment 192378
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=192378=edit
The line in the sample document renders differently in LO 7.5.9 than in
later versions of LibreOffice Writer

Consistent with the modification reported in Bug # 154933, LO Writer versions
after 7.5.9 intentionally rename paragraph styles named "Text Body" in
documents created with earlier versions of LO to "Body Text". The problem is
that in that conversion, multiple settings of the style are altered.
Steps to reproduce:
Create file in LO Writer 7.5.9 or earlier.
Include a paragraph using paragraph style named Text Body with settings:
Font: Charis SIL Compact Regular 11 pt
Indent
Before text: 0.0 pt
After text: 0.0 pt
First line: 0.0 pt
Spacing
Above paragraph: 0.0 pt
Below paragraph: 8.0 pt
Line spacing
Fixed of 13.5 pt

Save file
Open the same file in LO Writer 7.6 or 24.2
The paragraph previously using the Text Body style now is set to use the Body
Text style.
The Body text style now shows the following settings:

Font: Charis SIL Compact Regular 10 pt
Indent
Before text: 0.0 pt
After text: 0.0 pt
First line: 0.0 pt
Spacing
Above paragraph: 0.0 pt
Below paragraph: 5.8 pt
Line spacing
Fixed of 11.5 pt

Behavior is the same on Windows Terminal Server 2016 and on MacBook Air 2020 OS
Sonoma 14.2.1.

2024-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159548

Bug ID: 159548
Summary: LibreOffice Writer claims .doc file is corrupt. It is
not corrupt.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.6.4.1 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: drum...@pobox.com

Description:
Writer version 7.6.4.1 will not open a valid .doc file create by Microsoft Word
2003.

Writer version 7.5.1.2 opens the file with no problem. This fails on all Word
2003 files, even if they are a simple one line text without special fonts or
graphics. This is apparently a new bug introduced in LibreOffice 7.6.

Message follows:

The file 'check.signature.doc' is corrupt and therefore cannot be opened.
LibreOffice can try to repair the file.

The corruption could be the result of document manipulation or of structural
document damage due to data transmission.

Steps to Reproduce:
Attempt to open any .doc file created by Microsoft Office Word 2003.

Actual Results:
The file 'xyz.doc' is corrupt and therefore cannot be opened. LibreOffice can
try to repair the file.

The corruption could be the result of document manipulation or of structural
document damage due to data transmission.

We recommend that you do not trust the content of the repaired document.
Execution of macros is disabled for this document.

Should LibreOffice repair the file?

Expected Results:
The .doc file should open

Reproducible: Always

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159547

Bug ID: 159547
Summary: of-pie connector lines aren't quite geometrically
correct
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 24.8.0.0 alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: trivial
  Priority: medium
 Component: Chart
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: kurt.nordb...@protonmail.com

Description:
The left endpoint of connector lines between the parts of bar-of-pie and
pie-of-pie charts is not correct in cases where the left-side composite wedge
is larger than half the pie. The current implementation is close, but there
needs to be a little more math done.

Steps to Reproduce:
Open the attached file

Actual Results:
Connector lines aren't quite tangent to the left pie

Expected Results:
Connector lines are tangent to the left pie and terminate at the tangent point

Reproducible: Always

Colin, looks like the crash signature hasn't popped up recently in the Crash
Report website, starting with 7.5.3.

Can you please test your steps in 7.6 or 24.2 and confirm that it is now
resolved? Or provide us with a new crash report if the signature has changed.

The problem remains.

This is about using menu alt-character shortcuts, not F10. Menu alt-character
shortcuts are made available because speed typists expect them, but the
reported problem still applies and thus defeats them. F10 and arrows work
without this problem.

But menu alt-character shortcuts (mainly in Word or Calc the File menu by alt-f
or the Format menu by alt-o) should also work as expected. If you're a fast
typist, you use the keys in the proper order (hold alt down, type the
character, release the character, and release alt) and then go to your next
step. But, in that case, when the menu opens, if the first menu command has a
submenu, the menu closes before the submenu can open. So the typist has to
repeat the step or use another tactic, either way being slowed. If the typist
is looking at an original document and not at the screen, they may be unaware
that the command didn't apply and subsequent typing may have unexpected
results, which may have to be fixed, slowing the typist.

Wayland is probably still running unless the default was changed.

I don't want to try a newer LO version until included in a Fedora Linux distro

[Bug 159544] Function COUNTIFS empty cells are counted up to the nearest filled one, EDITING

tdf#146790 and tdf#151958 seem somewhat related to this, especially when Eike
pushed "Disable binary search on sorted cache for current releases" for the
later.

Quoting Eike:
"
I disabled it at a central place that is called by all affected functions to
decide whether to use the sorted cache or direct search.
"

IDK whether something else was done to re-introduce the potential better
performance at a later time.

At any rate, there is (still) a bug in LO 7.6 (at least) and up to a recent
24.8 alpha.

[Bug 158914] Calc leaks RAM in response to any action

2024-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158914

Talked to the Smart Scroll author a bit. He mentioned that the tool sends
"Accessibility requests [...] in order to find out if the mouse cursor is over
an edge of a scrollable area." He also says that they're sent as infrequently
as possible, "typically only while the cursor is moving."

That matches what we're seeing here, as memory is only leaked when moving the
cursor and even then, only over most of the Calc window (per the last paragraph
of my Comment #2 here).

It does sound like Calc is somehow leaking memory while handling these
requests, since the leak does not show up in any other application, even within
LibreOffice. It's probably not a code path that sees heavy use in "normal"
circumstances.

Fortunately for me, I'm able to turn off the features of Smart Scroll which
trigger the bug while still retaining the features that I need. So for my
personal situation, that's a 100% workaround. Feel free to close this, or let
it lie until someone else runs into something similar.

Of course, if some ambitious soul does want to investigate, I'm happy to run a
debug version or otherwise help out with testing, replication, and
data-gathering.

Appreciate the interest on what's really a very obscure situation!

Cheers,
Allen

In attachment 192374 worksheet Sheet2 cell D6, the formula is:

=COUNTIFS($Sheet1.D:D;"";$Sheet1.A:A;A6;$Sheet1.B:B;B6;$Sheet1.C:C;C6)

Changing that to:

=COUNTIFS($Sheet1.A:A;A6;$Sheet1.B:B;B6;$Sheet1.C:C;C6;$Sheet1.D:D;"")

(i.e. moving Range1 and Criteria1 to the last pair of arguments)

generates the correct result in a recent LO 24.8 alpha.

I'm not sure why the order of the pair of arguments would make any difference
(when the formula is in a different worksheet), but it does.

As an additional note (just for the sake of exhaustivity) regarding that Radeon

default in the "LibreOffice > OpenCL" options; however, even if I enable it, it
makes no difference in processing times, and in both cases I see roughly 0%
usage in radeontop. Everything is happening on the CPU, in only one thread,

I had great hopes for this, unfortunately I must report that the problem
persists in the latest version, with this same Lenovo spreadsheet above, as
well as the other one-million rows spreadsheet sample mentioned in comment #5.

I have tested on the Wayland version of GNOME Shell 45.3 on Fedora 39, with:

Version: 24.2.0.3 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: da48488a73ddd66ea24cf16bbc4f7b9c08e9bea1
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.6; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Flatpak
Calc: threaded

On my Intel Xeon W3520 CPU (8 logical CPUs) and AMD Radeon "Pitcairn" R270
graphics, the sample Lenovo spreadsheet mentioned above takes 2 minutes and 31
seconds (roughly) with the setup above. The one-million rows spreadsheet sample
mentioned in comment #5 still takes a minute. During that time, in both cases,
only one of the CPU cores/threads is used, at 100%.

I can confirm the problem under the following conditions:

* The formula (COUNTIFS in this case) is introduced on a different worksheet
than the arguments.

* Introducing a similar formula on the same worksheet as where (both Range and
Criteria) arguments are located, the result is correct.

* If either of the arguments is located on a different worksheet than the
formula, the result is incorrect.

* When using LO 7.3.1.3 and older, a Hard Recalculate displays the correct
result (Sheet2.D6).

* A Hard Recalculate does not update the incorrect result when testing with LO
7.4.3.2 and newer versions, including recent 24.8 alpha. > bug.

* Showing all rows and re-sorting the Range area (for each and every column)
will trigger the correct result in the attached file.

* No change when Disabling or Enabling OpenCL; in both cases the incorrect
result is displayed in recent LO 24.8 alpha.

This is probably a negative consequence of the attempted performance
enhancement introduced in LO 7.4:

* Improved performance of functions such as COUNTIF, SUMIFS and VLOOKUP,
especially with unsorted data tdf#139444 tdf#144777 tdf#146546 (Luboš Luňák,
Collabora)

IIRC, this is not the first report about negative effects of that change (if
indeed this problem is about the same issue).

CC'ing Eike.

I could also mention the "Clone" button next to the font family combobox, the
"Merge and center cells" button next to the various rows/columns buttons in
Calc's home tab, the "Open" button next to "Recent Documents" and "Open
Remote", the "Save" button next to "Save As…" and "Save Remote", etc.

It's a systemic, generalized problem with layout in the LibreOffice
notebookbars, so I don't think listing every occurrence of individual buttons
where the problem occurs is necessary; rather, the toolbar's architecture
should make it so that there is a minimum amount of spacing (3px?) enforced
between columns/sections/widgets, and that the widgets' heights expand to fill
the columns in a consistent way with other buttons or widgets (ex:
Combobox/Menubutton and ComboboxEntry widgets).

>From what I can see with version 24.2 (and older), the height problem (ex:
buttons vs combobox) and spacing problems also affect the "Tabbed Compact"
Notebookbar variant and GroupedBar AFAICT, not just the regular "Tabbed"
Notebookbar.

or 5 blank entries which are clickable (presumably the certificates previously
detected), but any of which, when clicked, causes a crash and launches the
recovery dialog.

Setting black background and red font doesn't works. Font is white. But for

[Bug 159545] New: [cosmetic glitch] frozen rows hide cursor in comment

2024-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159545

Bug ID: 159545
Summary: [cosmetic glitch] frozen rows hide cursor in comment
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 24.2.0.3 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: mattia@gmail.com

Description:
When you have frozen rows comments get cut out;

this is clear when you try to edit a comment:
you cannot see where the cursor is! making very hard to edit the comment.

I attach a screencast, showing the issue.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. freeze the first row
2. in the cell A1 create a long comment
3. right click -> edit comment

Actual Results:
Above the "frozen" line you can see everything normal;
below, you cannot see the blinking cursor.
If you move it with arrow keys you cannot see it;
If you select text (using SHIFT+LEFT/RIGHT) you can see blue selection.

Expected Results:
Fixed issue

Reproducible: Always
