This (use of comma) workaround is intended for those who already know the
correct spelling. Spell checkers are designed for novice users who may think
what they've typed is correct.

By the way, I was unaware that this was possible. It has rendered hundreds, if
not thousands, of auto-correct entries in the Marathi language pack obsolete. I
appreciate your efforts, but what I find frustrating is that it's not
adequately documented, especially with all the use cases as mentioned above.

I've a developer (though not an LO developer).

Yes, when a column is shown or hidden, the visibility of the cells to the next
of it needs to be recalculated. The same recalculation happens when a column is
deleted. Clearly the performance impact there is minor (I have never seen it in
practice, and I've reported plenty of bugs
(https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/buglist.cgi?email1=dascalescu=1=substring_id=1702597=changeddate%20DESC%2C),
including very subtle performance once (e.g. #131859).

> you're worried about @ady?

Whether one user claims it is a one-time thing, or instead a frequent action,
is not relevant, as each user has its own needs and workflow. Assuming the
frequency of this kind of action would be a mistake. And then we also have the
amount of rows to consider too.

It is not an ongoing process. Just as with volatile functions (which are
"expensive"), every time you change either the content or the width or the
show/hide status of a cell (or range of cells/columns), the visually-adjacent
columns would/might need an adjustment (on both sides).

IOW, when you change one cell/column, more items (in comparison to the current
situation) in your spreadsheet would have to pay attention to what happens, and
then react accordingly.

This is why I said that having this react _automatically_ is not the same as
having the user acting on a setting _manually_. This is similar to how the
normal "wrap text" attribute acts: it is a _manual_ _one-time_ reaction to
activating the "wrap text" property, and not an automatic permanent reaction
according to all-and-every-single change surrounding the cell, nor according to
the same cell either.

I would be in favor of adding different settings to the "wrap text" mode (see
GSheets), but I am not convinced (yet) that an automatic permanent change
according to the surrounding changes is so desirable. Unfortunately, I have no
way to test on Excel these days in order to compare with it.

I am not a developer, so I have no way to know how much actual performance
impact this change would have, in case it gets implemented as an automatic
permanent revision of what happens around a cell/column. I am only pointing out
that there will be some kind of impact; it is not free.

Now let's leave this matter to actual discussion between (UX and other)
developers, until they come up with a decision.

Dear johannes.geest,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Thank you Heiko for confirming what to me seemed obvious.

I'm not familiar with the implementation details, but `Calc would need to
"listen" to such changes in other columns` suggests an ongoing process. Columns
are hidden once, and then rarely displayed again. If hiding takes a noticeable
amount of time, I think that's quite acceptable because it's the direct result
of a user action impacting an entire column. Is it that what you're worried
about @ady?

(published before finishing, here's the full description)

Since 7.3 and the fix for bug 142763, we can separate the first page footer or
header from the rest in Calc, thanks to the new "Same content on first page"
setting in Format > Page Style > Footer or Header.

In the help page for "Format > Page Style > Footer/Header > Edit"[1] (same for
both), there is no mention of the conditional "Footer (first)" and "Footer
(rest)" tabs.

Happy to take if no objection.

[Bug 160057] New: Document Calc

2024-03-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160057

Bug ID: 160057
   Summary: Document Calc
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.3.0.0 alpha0+
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Documentation
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: stephane.guil...@libreoffice.org
CC: olivier.hal...@libreoffice.org
Blocks: 109087

Since 7.3 and the fix for bug 142763, we can separate the first page footer or
header from the rest in Calc, thanks to the new "Same content on first page"
setting in Format > Page Style > Footer or Header.

In the help pages for "Format > Page Style > Footer > Edit"[1] and "Format >
Page Style > Footer > Edit"[1], there is no mention of the conditional "Footer
(first)" and "Footer (rest)" tabs. Visibility of those tabs depends on the Page
style's footer setting "Same content on first page".

> Awesome! László's solution works for me like a charm. Thank you.

Let me add that this solution works just as well with prefixes. In that case
the .* pattern needs to be used after the prefix and the non-space separator
(in this example comma):

e.g.:

pol,.* -> pół
zalezny -> zależny

After typing the comma, pol changed to pół. After following with any word that
word is joined to pół. In this case:

pol,zalezny -> półzależny

---

You can even create long words with both prefixes and suffixes,
e.g. by defining in autocorrect the following:

pol,.* -> pół(a common prefix, meaning semi-)
zalezny -> zależny
.*,ch -> ch (one of the many inflectional morphemes)

you can type:
pol,zalezny,ch -> półzależnych

Thank you again! You're the best :)

Some more details:
Easier way to get to the dialog: Format > Page Style > Footer > Edit > Footer

If in this dialog, the box "same content on first page" is on, there will be no
separate "Footer (first)" and "Footer (rest)" tabs in the next Edit dialog. So
no need to edit the footer in both tabs.

Here is an XLS version of the previous XSLX file, exported with the same tool.

Note that with this version the defaults (vertical_center, horizontal_center,
wrap_text) are correctly applied.

This makes me think that the issue is more in how defaults are handled than a
rendering issue.

What about the potential performance loss, as I mentioned in prior comments?
Calc would need to "listen" to such changes in other columns, and the resulting
rendering of text would change according to the hide/show status of adjacent
columns, and also according to content of the visually-adjacent columns (from
both sides, depending on alignment). This is the effect similar to having
"volatile" formulas I would be worried about.

I don't install updates. Kasperskiy Antivirus somehow does it in background and
runs setup silently.

After it, it's reproduced.

Installation from scratch solved the issue. I'm able to type now. Although I
don't understand why it became broken after Kasperskiy updated it in the
background. All previous times it worked flawlessly.

Thanks for your help.

[Bug 160055] New: Installer for LibreOffice 24.2 bug

2024-03-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160055

Bug ID: 160055
Summary: Installer for LibreOffice 24.2 bug
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 24.2.1.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Installation
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: pia...@gmail.com

Description:
I installed LibreOffice 24.2 over LibreOffice 7.6 today. When the installer
ran, it did not close my 7.6 session. I restarted my computer when prompted.
After the restart, LibreOffice would not open. I tried from the desktop
shortcut, from the Start (Windows 11) menu and from the file linked to the
shortcut. I had Task Manager running and LibreOffice never showed in the
processes list. I ran the installer again, choosing to repair the install.
After the restart, LibreOffice opened correctly (as far as I can tell).

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open an older (7.6?) session and check for updates/click on the update alert.
2. Download the installer file, saving it to the computer.
3. Run the installer without closing the existing LibreOffice session first.
4. Reboot the computer when prompted.
5. Try to open LibreOffice.
6. When this fails, open the installer file from the saved location.
7. Choose the option to repair the installation.
8. Reboot the computer when prompted.
9. Attempt to open LibreOffice.

Actual Results:
LibreOffice would not start after step 5. After following steps 6-9,
LibreOffice seems to start correctly.

Expected Results:
The installer should have ended the existing session before attempting to
install the new version of the software.

Reproducible: Didn't try

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
This may have also worked if I had uninstalled LibreOffice and reinstalled from
the installer file. Doing it the way I did preserved my settings (at least my
recent files showed up when I opened the app).

Integration with Windows Explorer is more a Windows registry issue.

Possible if you upgraded from 7.6 to 24.2

We'd need a verbose msiexec.exe /l*v log to even look at what did/didn't get
touched. No way after the fact, so best approach at this time is to uninstall
(appwiz.cpl from an admin enabled command line).

First Rename/Delete your user profile

And then install again from scratch. GUI or command line msiexec (to catch a
log).

Please report if that resolves issue for you. Or if you decide to go back

Just checked a recent master against 24.8 on Win11 (different system, different
GPU).

Issue with Skia / Raster frame rendering with the win11 HC modes is present in
master running on win11 as well.
