[Bug 161067] New: CALC: Function Wizard IF and OR do not activate the wizard

2024-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161067

Bug ID: 161067
Summary: CALC: Function WizardIF and OR do not activate
the wizard
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.5.9.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: that.man.co...@gmail.com

Description:
Selecting the Function wizard (fx) and "typing either "if" or "or" fails to
produce the customary function wizard response. I didn't validate (m)any of the
others but I can confirm that "and", "Vl", "sum", produce the appropriate
response.
I appreciate they are simple functions but I was hoping to use the wizard to
help me build a complex query and see the "results" as it was progressing.

Steps to Reproduce:
Within any empty cell select [fx] from the address bar
Try to type "if" and observe it just makes the panel "flicker" but doesn't
prompt with IF
append "s" to your input and it will produce IFS
[Enter] on ""if"just vacates the wizard
Perform the same test substituting "or" for "if"

Actual Results:
Nothing

Expected Results:
Function Wizard

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Version: 7.5.9.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community

[Bug 161061] [UI] Grid lines are visible on all cells when option 'Show on colored cells' is chosen

2024-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161061

There is also Options > Calc > Grid.

This is because Grid is not the same as Gridlines.

BTW, it is not "Grid Lines" nor "Grid lines", but rather "Gridlines", in order
to identify/differentiate the lines that separate between cells (or show their
limits without being a cell “border”) from the other places where the term
“grid” is used.

So, IDK the reason to have "View Grid Lines" instead of "View Gridlines", and
the same for other places. Perhaps it is just to make translations easier?

As for:
Menu Tools > Options > Calc > View > (Visual Aids) Grid lines > Show on colored
cells

What other spreadsheet tools do? How _they_ behave?

IOW, which of the following naming alternatives matches the expected behavior
(which might not be the behavior you seem to expect)?:

* Show on colored cells only?
* Show on colored cells too?

And what is/was the (original) expected influence of the “menu View > View Grid
Lines” setting, when combining it with the related “Options > Calc > View”
settings? Is there a hierarchical precedence between these? Are these
independent (e.g. current temporal view vs setting saved to document)?

Considering recent modifications to other items in the View menu and in the
Options menu, it is not so easy for me to know the original _expected_ behavior
of each of those View items, nor whether they apply (perhaps temporarily on the
live document, or per session) to the spreadsheet view (only), or they should
actually be saved to the document (too). Actually, I have the same doubts about
“menu Options > Calc > View” by now, because of the same reason.

So, may I suggest to look at other spreadsheet tools and their behavior
regarding this Gridlines setting(s)?

I cannot check this by myself ATM, but I believe Excel behaves as Calc too, but
I might be misremembering so please do not just trust my words (i.e. if
possible, re-create the spreadsheet anew in Excel and review the Gridlines
options and behavior).

Please also keep in mind that the Gridlines settings are supposed to apply per
(selected) worksheet, not per entire workbook.

Dear herrlefty,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug

[Bug 161066] New: [enhancement] When moving locked ranges, add a key that can be unlocked temprorily

2024-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161066

Bug ID: 161066
Summary: [enhancement] When moving locked ranges, add a key
that can be unlocked temprorily
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: elias__0...@yahoo.com

Lets say you have some data to "a1:a10". a11:a20, a21:a30, etc.

You would like to run "index, match" combinations on these (separate)
ranges to B columns . This require that the ranges will be locked eg.
index(a$1:a$10, ).

There is no quick way to unlock them as you move them with mouse,
then to lock them automatically to these new (separate) ranges.

steps:
1) ctrl+x (cut) with some additional key to unlock ranges (eg. +u)
2) ctrl+v (paste) with some additional key (if needed) to lock them again.
It may be the same key eg. (+u).

This will expand usability, and user friendliness of calc.

Version: 24.2.0.3 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 420(Build:3)
CPU threads: 24; OS: Linux 6.7; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Debian package version: 4:24.2.0-1

[Bug 161065] New: Auto complete and spell check not working in Writer

2024-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161065

Bug ID: 161065
Summary: Auto complete and spell check not working in Writer
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.6.6.3 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: luca39...@protonmail.com

Description:
Auto complete was not working in Writer. I have enabled auto complete and
collect words, but no words were collected when I typed. I set language to
default language of my computer. one way can trigger auto complete -- I had to
disable auto complete and collect words and type some words, before enabling
auto complete and collect words again. but even I did this, the only words I
input after I disabled these two options were collected. That means no words
were collected after I checked these options again. I tried to install
libreoffice-24.2.3.2 from source, the bug was still there.

Spell check is not working too. Incorrect words are not underlined.

Version libreoffice-still 7.6.6-4.
OS 6.9.0-1-MANJARO #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Mon May 13 07:01:28 UTC 2024 x86_64
GNU/Linux

Steps to Reproduce:
1.ensure auto complete and collect words are enabled and language is set
correctly
2.start typing in Writer
3.type previous words

Actual Results:
auto complete and Spell check are not working

Expected Results:
when I repeat old words, a tip should be shown to allowed the user to auto
complete the word by hitting ENTER.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
libreoffice-still 7.6.6-4 was installed by package manager (pacman -S
libreoffice-still)

fdo#79602: sw: fix text formatting of proportional line space < 100%

SwTxtFormatter::CalcRealHeight(): Apply the special treatment of < 100%
line space shrinking the Height() of the line only to the first line
in a paragraph; the subsequent ones are shrunk again (to the square of
the desired proportion) 30 lines later.

Also set the Ascent of the line, as the wrong base-line causes the
lower
part of the line to be clipped.

[Bug 108697] New default set of bullet characters

2024-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108697

Recent discussion on commit [1] for some rework of the Bullet quick select from
March 2024

With refactoring of the default Bullet quick select button and now residing in
common.xcs [2] and more easily optimized, suggest a change from current list:

• U+2022 (tt. solid small circular bullets)
● U+25cf (tt. solid large circular bullets)
 U+e00c (tt. solid diamond bullets) //OpenSymbol PUA
 U_e00a (tt. solid large square bullets) //OpenSymbol PUA
➔ U+2794 (tt. right pointing arrow bullets filled out)
➢ U+27a2 (tt. right pointing arrow bullets)
✗ U+2717 (tt. cross mark bullets)
✔ U+2714 (tt. checkmark bullets)

To be replaced with this set of glyphs, w/tt changes:
top row
• U+2022 (tt. solid small circular bullets)
● U+25cf (tt. solid large circular bullets)
○ U+25cb (tt. unfilled circular bullets)
□ U+25a1 (tt. unfilled square/checkbox bullets)
bottom row
► U+25ba (tt. solid right pointer bullets)
→ U+2192 (tt. right pointing arrow bullets)
- U+002d (tt. typographic hyphen bullets)
– U+2013 (tt. en-dash bullets)

These represent the most common past requests for changes to the default set of
Bullet choices from OpenSymbol font, while dropping the cross and checkmark
bullets.

The quick select *could* be expanded beyond its current 8 "preview thumbnails"
or more completely refactored. But not a priority as it is trivial to use the
'Bullets and Numbering' customize for 'Bullets' 1-10 levels and save to
template for reuse. This change to the default offering will benefit those
users who have to go the customize/template route currently.

@Samuel, * -- with https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/163735, dropping the
RID_SVXSTR_BULLET_DESCRIPTION_[0-7] where are those tool tips coming from?
They'd need a tweak as well...

When following the instructions in that wiki section/page, I am not able to

[Bug 161049] Vertical Tab dialogs--Format Cells dialog in recent 24.8 alpha is too small

2024-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161049

(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #4)
> Clicking a long text in the "vertical tabs" auto scrolls the list to the end
> but I cannot scroll manually back to left.

I can press once on the left-arrow. The right-arrow won't work at that point.
If I move up or down, it immediately scrolls to the right again, each time.

The width of the box is too narrow and all this moving, even if it was
allowed/possible, is completely unnecessary and distracting; also unnecessary
requirements of extra actions from the user.

Additionally, when the UX Team will eventually "calculate" what the ideal
default width of the "vertical tabs" box should be as default for future
versions, I am sure that for some UI locales the width will be not enough
whereas for others it will be too much.

ATM, I am not seeing the advantage of this new layout for this dialog.
Whichever screen area you assume to be saving (which I seriously doubt for this
dialog), it is not worth the extra clicks, distraction and lack of clarity for
new users.

All this is important, but please first correct the whole default size of the
dialog. Then allow the size to be remembered, and then consider the actual UX
consequences of this new "vertical tabs" style for this dialog.

When the names of the "tabs" follow some (similar) pattern, a vertical column
might be more efficient in terms of screen area. But when each name is so
different as in this dialog (e.g a short word vs multiple words with many
characters in each word), then the new "box" of vertical tabs will be occupying
blank space that is wasted. Add the fact that a vertical list within a box is
less clear for new users in terms of structural/tree steps...

This new "vertical tabs" style should had been experimental and opt-in, asking
for beta testers to provide feedback and correct glitches (as this one,
reported in this tdf#161049). If really "no one" would agree to opt-in, then
that means that no one really wants the new style. If someone really wants it,
then they would accept the opt-in. It is just a matter of promoting the opt-in
alternative (e.g in the release notes). Instead, this is imposed/forced and
with all these problems yet to be solved, with no alternative. I hope it is
really, really worth it.

Thank you for the sample. From your sample, it looks like LibreOffice might be
stuck in loop. I am not very familiar with the Writer code, but from what I can
see, during your sample Writer was busy creating a list of all of the chunks of
text in your document.

The loop is called from Java code so I wonder if the Zotero extension is
reconstructing the entire document. So, can you trigger the hang again and,
this time, wait a full minute before taking a sample. This will tell us if we
are still in the same loop after a minute has passed or if the looping is
elsewhere.

[Bug 161061] [UI] Grid lines are visible on all cells when option 'Show on colored cells' is chosen

2024-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161061

Please be mindful of menu View > View Grid Lines, and menu View > Grid and
Helplines, not confusing them with similarly-named settings in Options > Calc >
View dialog.

Some of these settings have an impact on the document, and others have an
impact on how the document is seen on the specific installation on the specific
device (not necessarily saved on the document). So each of these are intended
as different purposes.

I mention this because we have seen recent changes in which the options in the
View menu are mixed/confused (unfortunately erasing their different purposes)
with similar settings within the Options > Calc > View dialog. Not everything
is supposed to be saved to the document, so these are not exactly the same,
despite their similar naming.

[Bug 161064] New: #10 envelope not formatted correctly for printing

2024-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161064

Bug ID: 161064
Summary: #10 envelope not formatted correctly for printing
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 24.2.3.2 release
  Hardware: Other
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: rpastern...@hotmail.com

Description:
In Writer I create a new envelope by using Insert Envelope. The format is a
#10. If I only fill in the addressee, and then click 'Insert', it is formatted
correctly for my HP printer. See the attachment 'Correct'.

But, if I add the Sender information and then click 'Insert', it is not
formatted correctly. Compared to the correct envelope, it has moved down the
page in the document, so when it is printed, it is too low and is misprinted.
See the attachment 'Incorrect'.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Writer
2.Insert Envelope
3.Fill in addressee AND sender
4.Format is #10 envelope

Actual Results:
The envelope appears too low on the page. I cannot move it up, and it prints
incorrectly.

Expected Results:
If I leave the sender off, it formats correctly. I should be able to add the
sender and have it format correctly.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
I don't think that this is specific to my particular printer.

[Bug 160847] [EDITING] function syntax bubble only triggered on backspace when AutoInput disabled

2024-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160847

(In reply to Stéphane Guillou (stragu) from comment #10)

@Stéphane,

FWIW, you modified the Summary field, from:
[EDITING] Autoinput triggered when disabled on backspace

to:
[EDITING] function syntax bubble only triggered on backspace when AutoInput
disabled

IMHO, the new wording is slightly confusing.

I think that the original report is that, as of the current "double function"
of the AutoInput setting, when the setting is OFF then the backspace key should
not trigger the bubble tooltip auto-completion of functions, just as any other
key does not trigger the auto-completion.

The new wording might be interpreted as "only the backspace key is working
correctly, and other cases/keys should behave in the same way", which is
somewhat the opposite of this request, IIUC. The request in this tdf#160847
seems to be that the backspace key should not trigger the auto-completion of
functions (just as any other key does not trigger the auto-completion either)
when AutoInput is OFF.

Moreover, some users might think of the actual auto-completion as a separate
feature than the bubble: the bubble may suggest (only) but not necessarily
imply auto-complete the content as well.

[Bug 161063] New: Repeated Ctrl+F animation of find toolbar textbox is bizarre and garish

2024-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161063

Bug ID: 161063
Summary: Repeated Ctrl+F animation of find toolbar textbox is
bizarre and garish
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 24.8.0.0 alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: eyalr...@gmx.com

When the Find Toolbar is open, with the drop-down combo-box focused, and one
press Ctrl+F - one gets an animation effect of the combo-box shrinking and
growing, twice, while also fading to gray as it shrinks and out of gray when it
grows.

This is a poor, poor choice of effect. It's not similar to anything else in LO
that I can think of, and makes one feel the whole LO UI is actually made of
silly-putty and can be kneaded into different shapes. Baah. No. It's even a bit
scary, because if those crazy developers can start moving your controls for
you, who else knows what they'll do :-(

So - do something else. Say, mark the combo-box text as selected, then
deselected again (and maybe then selected again). But not this silly animation.

Depends heavily on the OS/DE. With kf5 I get a line above the list item aka tab
(bright on dark theme) and one below (much darker). Looks quite ugly anyway.

Only solution I can think of is to add images so the entry becomes larger. And
to add proper highlighting on hover too.

Keeping average importance on this ticket.

Yes, we can:

> could put the initial focus in the "Print" button instead of the spinbutton,

In my test with gtk3, the value doesn't change on mouse-wheel regardless of
focus, so the issue described here is only for non-GTK, i.e. the VCL SpinField
implementation.

Description:
When I attempt to correct a word or edit a phrase, i get LibreOffice Writer Not
Responding.
What the devil?
It happens constantly when editing, and it lasts 10 to 15 seconds each time.
By the way, I tried Apache OpenOffice when this continued, but it was even
worse.
I used WPSOffice, supposedly a free program, and after 4 years I get a message
that my trial was over and it would not work properly.

Actual Results:
Merely edit until something requires correction, it might not happen the first
time, but it does happen

Expected Results:
just have to wait the 10-15 seconds and it starts working properly

I can confirm, that the cursor now doesn't keep displayed. Thank you very much!

But the bug itself is not yet completely fixed: If you move the left start of a
paragraph by moving the ruler, the vertical lines on the page will not be
removed until scrolling. Interestingly it only happens, when the window is
fully maximized from top to bottom. Does anyone experience the same?
