[Bug 161287] New: LO does not hyphenate words containing an apostrophe

2024-05-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161287

Bug ID: 161287
Summary: LO does not hyphenate words containing an apostrophe
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 24.2.3.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: mauro.sacche...@gmail.com

Created attachment 194367
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=194367=edit
Bug example 1

In Italian texts, where there is a compound word containing an apostrophe,
hyphenation is not carried out, even if there is plenty of space to do so.
The language is set to Italian. The Italian language package is installed and
in fact the rest of the hyphenation is done correctly.
I set the hyphenation in Paragraph – text flow as:
Automatic. End of line characters: 1. Start of line characters: 1
Minimum word length: 4 characters (I can't set it less).
I encounter this behavior both on a Debian Testing desktop computer and on a
MacBook Pro laptop (both with LO 24.2.3.2)

Aptos is the new default font for many MS 365 users.
I created a new document in MS 365, it used Aptos by default, then I opened it
on Ubuntu 22.04 + GNOME 42.9 with:

Version: 24.8.0.0.alpha1+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: ae798781ef4df7a1fdef13af0bc459bf4f6e7b4c
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.5; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: CL threaded

The font was substituted by DejaVuSans (seen in exported PDF), which is
supposed to have broad Unicode coverage.
Without a sample file, it will be difficult to figure out what is going on.

Is the version "from Fedora repositories" actually a Flatpak version? Can you
paste here the version information from Help > About LibreOffice?

[Bug 161286] New: Qt VCL does not send input method cursor rectangle based on preedit cursor

2024-05-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161286

Bug ID: 161286
Summary: Qt VCL does not send input method cursor rectangle
based on preedit cursor
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 24.2.3.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: wen...@gmail.com

Created attachment 194364
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=194364=edit
Qt6 plugin, the reported cursor is at the beginning of preedit

When using Qt 6 plugin, the cursor rectangle (Qt::ImCursorRectangle) reported
by libreoffice is at the beginning of preedit, not at the cursor of preedit.

Comparing to Gtk3, the position is reported correctly.

For example, if the preedit is like "あゝ|ああ" ( "|" means the position at the
cursor), the Qt6 plugin will report cursor rectangle at the very beginning,
while Gtk3 plugin will report the position at cursor "|".

Can be easily reproduced with mozc or anthy (with either ibus, or fcitx5). With
default configuration of mozc/anthy, press "a", "a", "a", "a", space, left,
space, will reproduce the issue.

See the screen shot for more details.

Dear chrone,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Dear Telesto,

4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team

[Bug 161046] No substitute fonts when opening a file without the file's font installed locally

2024-05-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161046

Sorry, I no longer have either of the files I was using with fonts I didn't
have installed when I began using version 24.2. I believe the font used in the
last file I looked at was "artos" or "aptos"It does not appear to be unique to
any particular file or font, but rather any file that was using a font not
installed on my computer.

This happened both in the original version I tested (24.2.0.25?) and in
24.2.3.2. It only happened with Libreoffice installed from the rpm on
Libreoffice's site, whereas the problem did not appear when I installed it from
Fedora's repository. I originally used the rpm from Libreoffice's site because
the Fedora respository installs the individual pieces of Libreoffice, but not
the startup screen that gives quick access to all the apps and recent files.

Thanks for the report.

Let's stick to the XLSM file in this report, as we have a screenshot for that.
(Please open a different report for the DOCX.)

- I can reproduce that the footer is not visible in print preview and PDF, but
a text selection shows the characters are there, very close to the bottom edge.
I see that the Format > Page > Footer has a Spacing of 0, and a Height of 0.10
cm. If you increase the Height value, or alternatively use "AutoFit Height",
the footer becomes visible in the export. So maybe "not a bug"?

- The table not fitting on one page: the visual aid shows that the printing
goes beyond the page break. To fix it, one might want to:
  * change the page format to a bigger size, or reduce the margins, so the
resulting PDF includes your whole table; or
  * resize the table so it fits on a single A4 page; or
  * use the "Whole Sheet Export" PDF option to have all the contents on one
page.

...however, even though both issues can be worked around, the direct export to
PDF is very different to what MS 365 exports (whole first table on first page;
footer visible).

So maybe a import filter issue?

Reproduced in LO 6.0.0.3 and:

Version: 24.8.0.0.alpha1+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community

[Bug 161285] New: In Writer, hiding a section that contains any table creates unwanted pages or page breaks in its place.

2024-05-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161285

Bug ID: 161285
Summary: In Writer, hiding a section that contains any table
creates unwanted pages or page breaks in its place.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 24.2.3.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: juk...@crypape.com

Description:
Hiding a section that contains a table creates at least one page break in the
location of the section in the sequence of paragrahps. A higher number of extra
pages between the paragraph immediately before the section and the one
immediately after it seem to be related to the existence of empty cells in the
table.

This problems only affects tables. Sections containing charts, images and OLE
objects are OK.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a section
2. Create a table within this newly created section
3. Hide the Section

Actual Results:
One ore more pages are inserted between the paragraphs before and after the
section, as if one or more page breaks were added.
Plus, the contents of both the section and the table are completely hidden,
but, if the table borders are colored, one of the borders of the table can
still be seen at the top of the extra pages.

Expected Results:
Hiding the section completely hides the table, its contents and its borders
without inserting pages or anything else between the paragraphs before and
after it.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Multiple column sections do not create page breaks, but the colored table
border can still be seen at the top of one of the columns when the section is
hidden.

Thanks for the report.

I understand you are talking about Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Application
Colors? You want the scheme to automatically switch from e.g. Dark to Light
depending on what was last used with a specific file?

I feel like this is going too far and a switch that's easy to access is the way
to go instead (bug 160349) - now that the Application Colours usually follow
the UI's dark mode (bug 152184).
Also, it might mean the document themselves could be improved in using
formatting more consistently (i.e. fixing the colours instead of relying on
automatic colours, and/or by using document themes).

UX/Design team, do you agree this is a "won't fix"?

(And Jérôme, please also test with a currently maintained version, preferably
24.2, as there has been many dark mode / theme improvements since 7.4)

Marli, not sure, if I did the correct steps:

My steps:
1. Open a new document
2. Toggle ordered List and write some text
3. Format → Paragraph → Indent: Before -1,00 cm and first line 0 cm
4. Select that list
5. In Styles deck of the sidebar click "List Styles"
6. Styles Action -> New Style from selection

Actual result
Indent changes

Expected result
Indent should remain and should be part of the new style

Additional informaton
Same result with paragraph style

Marli, do these steps describe your problem?

Perhaps the root problem is that "New Style from Selection" does always create
a paragraph style (see bug 151563)

[Bug 161284] New: Select cells to print function on Spreadsheet doesn't work properly

2024-05-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161284

Bug ID: 161284
Summary: Select cells to print function on Spreadsheet doesn't
work properly
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 3.3.3 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: ebig...@peak.org

Description:
When I select a range of cells to print, I cannot change the range from my
original. I needed to print the cells at the bottom of the spreadsheet; I
selected the "range of cells" option on the print cue. This was ignored. Only
the original range printed. I had to create a whole new spreadsheet in order
to print those few rows at the bottom of the sheet. Thank goodness for copy and
paste.

Actual Results:
Create a spreadsheet with 14 columns, column with date format, arial 8 pt., and
45 rows. Select entire sheet to print. Mine prints on the first 42 rows on
page 2. Cannot include any more rows no matter what I try.

Expected Results:
Print all rows.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Should have printed the range I selected on two pages.

I confrm, that you can't delete thse extensions in extion-dialog (Tools ->
Extensions). But that is the expected behaviour. Help says: "Bundled extensions
are installed by the system administrator using the operating system specific
installer packages. These can not be installed, updated or removed here." [1]
So it's not a bug, but enhancement request like "Allow removing bundled
extensions"

Update: the recent commits don't fix this bug but they do eliminate a bunch of
memory leaks in the macOS native code that connects LibreOffice's internal C++
code to the macOS' accessibility subsystem.

Now that those leaks are fixed, I am working on the following patch:

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/167961

The patch significantly reduces memory usage when macOS' accessibility
subsystem interacts with a Calc document. However, I still need to find a fix
for tdf#157568 before I can commit the patch.

I will post again when I have some news to report.

Thanks R. for the report.
Thanks Jim for the patch.

We try to keep one issue per report, so what I suggest checking what issues are
left in a daily build, and opening new single-issue reports as needed.

Note that we now have bug 159948 about the multi-window Navigator position
issue (which is GTK3-specific).

(In reply to R. Green from comment #11)
> There is still a residual problem in that the VERY FIRST TIME you open
> Writer, after the install, the navigator appears only as a VERY SMALL box in
> the top left-hand corner.
I can see that, it's a regression in LO 7.2, Writer-only, and GTK3-only. I have
reported it in bug 161281.

Let's close this one as "works for me" in favour of existing reports (or new
ones if needed).
