[Bug 123972] UI menu disappears before submenu can open (GTK3 and Wayland)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123972 --- Comment #29 from lanaray --- For Bug 123972, which concerns the disappearance of the UI menu before the submenu can open on GTK3 and Wayland, the issue likely stems from a compatibility issue between GTK3 and the Wayland display server protocol. It seems that the menu system may be encountering a timing or rendering problem that causes it to vanish prematurely. To address this, developers may need to investigate and possibly modify the code related to menu rendering and interaction, ensuring proper synchronization between the UI elements and the Wayland display server. Additionally, testing across different environments and configurations could help pinpoint the root cause and facilitate the implementation of an effective solution. [Bug 123972] UI menu disappears before submenu can open (GTK3 and Wayland)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123972 Nick Levinson changed: What|Removed |Added Ever confirmed|1 |0 Status|NEEDINFO|UNCONFIRMED --- Comment #28 from Nick Levinson --- The problem remains. This is about using menu alt-character shortcuts, not F10. Menu alt-character shortcuts are made available because speed typists expect them, but the reported problem still applies and thus defeats them. F10 and arrows work without this problem. But menu alt-character shortcuts (mainly in Word or Calc the File menu by alt-f or the Format menu by alt-o) should also work as expected. If you're a fast typist, you use the keys in the proper order (hold alt down, type the character, release the character, and release alt) and then go to your next step. But, in that case, when the menu opens, if the first menu command has a submenu, the menu closes before the submenu can open. So the typist has to repeat the step or use another tactic, either way being slowed. If the typist is looking at an original document and not at the screen, they may be unaware that the command didn't apply and subsequent typing may have unexpected results, which may have to be fixed, slowing the typist. I don't want to try a newer LO version until included in a Fedora Linux distro update. I'm not set up to use appimages now. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123972 --- Comment #23 from Buovjaga --- I get console spam for qt.qpa.wayland: Wayland does not support QWindow::requestActivate() when fooling around with menus in a Wayland session and kf5 VCL backend. It coincides with LibreOffice crashing. Under gdb I can't make it crash, but I get these: qt.qpa.wayland: setGrabPopup called with a parent, QtWaylandClient::QWaylandXdgSurface(0x56eb2a50) which does not match the current topmost grabbing popup, QtWaylandClient::QWaylandXdgSurface(0x5a5e8200) According to the xdg-shell protocol, this is not allowed. The wayland QPA plugin is currently handling it by setting the parent to the topmost grabbing popup. Note, however, that this may cause positioning errors and popups closing unxpectedly because xdg-shell mandate that child popups close before parents Version: 7.2.0.0.alpha0+ / LibreOffice Community Build ID: fe2f5f99636d938d57c1880c37d54c1b796f06f1 CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.11; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+wayland) Locale: fi-FI (fi_FI.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123972 --- Comment #22 from Nick Levinson --- In response to comment 20: I changed from Wayland to X11, but logging out doesn't do it; a warm reboot is necessary. I now run Fedora 33, kept evergreen. I tested Writer's File and Format menus. The problem does not occur under X11. I think my fingering was fast enough for the test to be reasonable. I switched back to Wayland and the problem resumed. >From the Help > About LibreOffice dialog: Version: 7.0.2.2 Environment: CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 5.8 User Interface: UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Misc: Calc: threaded -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
