The additional toggles column make the menubar more cluttered. Unfortunately this is not how Linux (kde* and gtk*) native menus work. Go to Tools > Options > View > Icons in menus and set the value to 'Show' and compare the behaviour of kde5 and gtk3 menus: you'll see both show checkbox and icon side by side.
