Bug no longer encountered.  Tested with sample file and similar files: no
problems.

In my view, the report can be closed as resolved, which is what I've done (I
hope that's right?).

Ok, so if I read this correctly checking the "reduce resolution of images"
option can actually increase the resolution of images?

Still present, and it is not limited to macOS as mentioned in comments
