[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 154429] Suggestions for Default settings for new installs

Thanks, I like to hear the philosophy, I'm all about this and if I thought
LibreOffice was clumsy and ugly I would not use it or take the time to make the
input I did. I will do as you have suggested and try to identify specific use
cases that can be discussed. As MSO forces its user base into saas' fully
invasive and dollar sucking model and as is well documented working in
partnership with 3rd parties to access, share and watch user data and activity,
I'm all about getting users away from that thief of privacy.

No worries, no one has taken offense.

MSO is doing great work and it would be nice to realize many ideas. But
LibreOffice is a different product and not just the ugly copycat. Besides being
a community project, we put freedom paramount and we allow full insights into
the documents. Not to speak about standards, inclusion, education, etc.

So while your statement is not wrong you should refer to specific use cases.
And while LibreOffice might be seen as ugly and clumsy you will find solutions
that are superior to MSO. Help us (actually yourself *g*) to make the other
parts as efficient and beautiful.

Sorry some have taken offense, I certainly could have worded some things
better, but I don't believe it is copying, looking at it from that perspective
would be like saying lets not do what works and do something different. There
is a logic of navigation and user experience that MS has invested millions
maybe billions into research and analysis for their UX, for beyond the capacity
of this project, it is just a fact of life that the world has been mentally
programmed to think in their paradigm. My point here is that from a user
adoption perspective it would be wise to wow a new user instead of confuse
them. New users rarely read through the guides, they just want to jump in and
use it, that's because they have work to do and not time to waste. Even web ux
design has fallen into standard navigation paradigms, this is just what it is.

One could also argue copying is the end of creativity.

Anyway, the big advantage of LibreOffice as an open source project is that it
is community-driven. You can join here talk and get heard. The way images are
placed in documents is a complex topic and discussed in several tickets (will
make this on a duplicate). The second part how text flows around is related,
and has as well its duplicates. We organize reports (whether bugs or
enhancements) in META tickets, and bug 87740 holds a lot of information. You
are very welcome to join the discussions.

Sure BZ is fine for that, we'll make it an actual enhancement, A.k.a RFE as
there is no bug here, and there is literally nothing actionable in this
request!

Your specific issue was with the handling of image anchor--clearly documented,
RTM.

Flesh your suggestion out, I'm certainly not going to put any effort into what
IMHO is a complete waste of design and dev effort.

But, would strongly suggest you spend some time working in LibreOffice before
you start saying it needs to work like MS Office does, oh, and again please
RTM--there are links from the Help menu, and a useful WiKi.

There was no other option to submit a suggestion except to log a bug, I"m not
sure how you get feedback from the public to make the product better, maybe its
not something you do?

"... should be a project to better mirror out of the box experience that MS
Word users get ..."

Hmm, not seeing an advantage or need to doing anything more for folks coming
from MS Office Desktop apps, or their O365 cloud flavors.

Specific behavior you describe is "anchoring", LibreOffice and ODF specs handle
differently in UI and document structure to MS's implementation for OOXML.

We very much expect users to RTM, especially necessary for folks crossing over
from the MS UIs.
