Maybe it's a regression on Windows. I can reproduce this bug for LibreOffice 3.6.4.3, OpenOffice 3.4.1 and LibreOffice 4.0.0.0 beta1 under both Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista SP2. I also checked it for LibreOffice 3.5.2.2 under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (see new screenshots). For better reproduction you can choose a bigger font size (like 14 or 18), since that way the cursor and the selection border will also get bigger. You have a screenshot of good and bad behavior The screenshots were taken from the same version and the same system. The manifestation of the bug depends on the letters of the word the cursor traverses.
