[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 61053] FILESAVE: Make writer to save the document with the first words instead of Untitled 1
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61053 --- Comment #13 from bugquestcon...@online.de --- From the last comment of JBF I understand that LibO changes the number after Untitled x automatically. I never saw this because I always save my files immediately under the name I need. Thus I drop the request of changing the file name to the first words. However, my request: quote Additionally I would like to add that the field for the filename in a footer of a writer document shows the name of the default filename before the file is saved. Currently, the field shows only a dot. and it took me a while to find out that the dot is replaced by the filename when the file is saved once. It would be easier to understand the file name field when it shows immediately the filename (first words of text or untitled 1). unquote remains, except for the first word part in my request. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61053 Jean-Baptiste Faure jbfa...@libreoffice.org changed: What|Removed |Added CC||jbfa...@libreoffice.org --- Comment #12 from Jean-Baptiste Faure jbfa...@libreoffice.org --- I agree with comment #6. Please don't ask LibreOffice to think for you. Additionally having default names based on an uniform scheme like untitled n make easier to find these badly named files. That is important from a QA tester point of view, it make easier to cleanup your desktop. Another point, with names like untitled n you are sure that you can't overwrite an existing file accidentally. Best regards. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 61053] FILESAVE: Make writer to save the document with the first words instead of Untitled 1
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61053 --- Comment #11 from rbruen...@spectruma.de --- Hi, I also found this feature useful back in the old days when I was using MSO. Since I mostly start new documents with the title, it would be quite helpful to get the headline as suggestion for the file name upon first saving. I can even imagine this feature to be useful in Calc as well iff the first non-empty cell in the first row contains text. To appease people who have concerns about this feature or who have a different workflow, it might be a good idea to add a checkbox in the settings dialogue so that it is possible to disable this feature. Having said that, I would be very pleased to see such a feature in a future version of LO. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61053 --- Comment #9 from bugquestcon...@online.de --- I think that Kumara's proposal The stupid name problem is easily overcome by having the title pre-selected, just as with Save as... in Comment 8 is a pretty good one. Here I understand that the first words are selected. When I used MSO I thought the first words file name is a stupid thing. But when the file needs be saved quickly, There is actually a more precise information in the filename than Untitled. And this information can already fill the field file name and replace the current dot if not filename is used yet. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

Thus the stupid name. But it's also nice NOT having to execute save, then realise that it would be better to copy the title from doc to paste, close the dialog box, select and copy the title, execute save, AND paste the text. The stupid name problem is easily overcome by having the title pre-selected, just as with Save as... It's reasonable enhancement request that I believe many users would appreciate. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

Any hope? (I'm new here so I'm not sure if 9 months is a long time to wait for a solution and I'm just impatient or if nothing is happening on this?) As for Cor's feeling that this is unuseful, I'm not sure how this can be seen that way. Unless he always leaves his documents titled by the default Untitled X, changing the File name from Untitled X OR whatever the first line of the document was is the same effort and certainly not any more onerous - and for many of us, the first line title many times saves a step.
