On version 4.1.2.3 shipped with Ubuntu 13.10, the bug seems to be solved.

I'm trying to simulate this problem. I couldn't... :(
Maybe you can tell us the exactly formula that you are typing?

I tested in master build, runing on openSUSE.

I have LO 4.0.2.2 on Ubuntu 13.04.
Actually, when the formula is selected and I press escape, sometimes the cursor
is placed before the formula and sometimes after. It depends on the spacing you
have specified around the formula: without spacing, the cursor is placed before
but with the default spacing it is placed after.

This is what happens with me.
What OS & LibreOffice do you have?
thanks

Yes, you are right, you actually need to type twice escape: the first time the
formula is closed but the object is still selected, the second time the cursor
is re-activated.
OK so the proposed solution would be to place the cursor after the selected
object when the space key is typed.

In my LibreOffice 4.0.3 on Ubuntu, the cursor is placed behind the formula
after two times Esc...
What OS & LibreOffice do you have?
thanks
