Hi Brian,

Selecting row 2 and inserting a new row, then the format is from row 1 not from
row 2.

(In reply to comment #0)

 The new row should
open above the current row and carry the formatting of the current row with
 it.

Can you pls attach your sample file + steps?
For me it's always the opposite.
The option mentioned by Marisov, makes that a range is extended at the edge
where a row/column is insterted.

My mistake,
the format is inherited from the row/column above/left of the selection, not
from the selection.

The option for expand formatting, it is a different thing, Specifies whether
to automatically apply the formatting attributes of the selected cell to the
empty adjacent cells.

--- Comment #4 from Brian M. Godfrey br...@wildbirdshop.com ---
OK, well I'm just a user so some of this is over my head.

I can't include my spreadsheet because it is all full of confidential financial
data. I will try to explain it better.

I used to use Excel. (Is it OK to say that here?) I'd make a Date column,
A. As I went through my pile of receipts and invoices I would put the date in
A, the vendor in B, the amount in C, etc. If I needed to insert a row I would
highlight the row below where I wanted it and Insert Row from the context menu.
I think I have to have the mouse in the label column to the left of column A,
but I'm not sure. An empty row would appear above the one I had highlighted
and it would be pre-formatted the same as the highlighted row.

I tried that in LibreOffice calc and it did not appear that the new row was
formatted like the original row. If was also not formatted the same as the row
above the insertion, which had the same formatting as all of the rows.

It appears, from another message, that I would highlight row 3, insert a new
row, and that new row would inherit the formatting of row 2. That makes no
sense to me. Do I understand correctly?

Anyway, I clicked the Send Feedback selection in the Help menu and ended up
in this bug reporting system. I meant it to be Feedback or a suggestion for
future consideration. If it really is a bug, I'll glow with pride. Well, not
really, but I'll try to come up with better assistance. If it isn't a bug, I
hope I've given a point of view on how one person thinks it would make more
sense. It's possible that the other way makes sense to someone else, but I
sure don't see it.

I'm hitting the road in the morning and won't be back until Friday afternoon,
so I hope it isn't too annoying if I don't answer any further messages for a
few days. I'll be very busy...
