latest LO release fixes your problem.

Chris, I cannot reproduce this problem.

Could you please download from here http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ the
latest stable release.

Then, to check if the update-check works, go to Help > Check for updates. You
should see a window popping up. In case of the latest stable, telling you, that
you are on the latest release.

Please re-open if it still fails.

(perhaps between gprs/2g/hsdpa & broadband cable) ? Then report your results
