I decided that my Ubuntu 14.04 needed to be updated to LibreOffice 4.3 and to my TOTAL AMAZEMENT, it displayed badly just as I reported. So the problem shows up on Ubuntu and NOT on Windows. Since the document was generated on a Windows machine (not sure what flavor), it is reasonable that another Windows machine would have the same fonts. On my Ubuntu box, it says the font is Calibri, which I've never heard of. Whether that is correct, or that is Ubuntu's closest font, I have no way of knowing for sure. I tried to look at the ppt file with gedit, but it wouldn't open. I also tried bless but the file was huge and I didn't know what I was looking for. Then Impress gave me the Calibri font. Fonts that are not available in Impress will give you a hint when you hover over them. I don't have Windows available here but I saw that Carlito is metrically identical to Calibri. I downloaded Carlito and it looks better. I'm going to send my Calibri - Carlito changes back and have them checked on the Windows machine. I understand that Calibri is popular on Windows machine, but I never heard of it. After I installed Carlito, Impress substituted it automatically for Calibri so now the second document, where I made no changes also comes out correctly. I checked it on 4.2.6 and there I saw the problem. Just now I loaded Libre Office 4.3 on another machine and on 4.3 it works OK.
