Usually projector has resolution 1024x768 and there is no point to have larger pictures for screen view. Also using ~85% of JPG quality would be enough for screen view. Would suggest to use JPG as photo file format and nothing else. Using "Tools->Minimize presentation" would also help reduce the presentation size. If still there are problems (e.g. too much pictures to load them all simultaneously as the presentation software does) then I would propose not to use presentation software but just show pictures as separate files with some picture viewing software. Did use that solution several times. Just for reference, how many MB of media do you think you added to the document? (rough estimate is fine) How big is your graphics cache?
