Thanks for your response, Nicolas.
Still there are possibilities to improve style handling and make life easier
for you too :)

There are bugs around this, or maybe a draft /container issue somewhere..
Heiko or .., any pointer for Nicolas?

Switching the style per dropdown would make it necessary to adopt all setting
in this dialog regardless what was changed before. Of course a confirmation
might help but that's very unusual. We had a similar discussion for the new
area fill style dialog where Jay convinced me to have a clear distinction
between the selection of a style and setting its properties.

So I agree with Jean-Baptiste.

>From my point of view, allowing to switch to another style from the current
edition dialog will be confusing between editing another style or changing the
name of the current style. I prefer the current workflow using Style and
Formatting window to choose the style to be edited.

I propose to close this enhancement request as wontfix.

Thank you for your answer
I am aware of the *useful* drop down menu, but I am more thinking of the dialog
itself (see file attached), where one could directly change the style.
When I am grading papers (i.e. verifying that teh students are following my
instructions on each styles), it is tedious to re-open each time such dialog
(from wherever!)

Thanks Nicolas. Got it now...

You know since some time the Style drop down is also in the side bar.
That has led to some - not yet finished discussion. In that, there also is an
idea that changes the side bar in such a way, that properties of a style (and
not only direct formatting properties) can be changed.

Or do you mean that in the dialog "Paragraph Style A", you would like to switch
to  "Paragraph Style B-Z" to change the properties for those :) ?

Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for writing and your interest in LibreOffice!
There is the Select Style dropdown, at the left of the toolbar Formatting.
And from 5.1, in Writer there will be a menu Style.

Can you please explain if/what misses there compared to your idea?
