Thanks, Miguel. Rebuilding the registrymodifications.xcu file
(deleting/renaming) seems to have fixed the issue. Of course, the reported
behavior should not have occurred in the first place

Seems a duplicate of
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93113
but it should be solved for your version.

Please try resetting the user profile, sometimes solves strange issues.

Usually it's enough renaming/deleting the file
"user/registrymodifications.xcu",  it affect all the options in
Menu/Tools/Options, and the files "user/basic/dialog.xlc" and "scrip.xlc" are
overwritten, additionally custom colors in "user/config/standard.soc" are lost.
