Now I tried a further thing and have reset the user profile and voilà now
everything is fine again. 
Of course, I don't know why this worked and how this bug could occur, but from
my point this bug report could be closed.

I have now de-installed Java and LO.  Thereafter, I installed successfully the
latest version of Java and thereafter of LO (5.1.0.3).  But unfortunately the
problem still exists.  Any images which I insert, show only an empty frame in
the document view.  But the image is shown correctly if I switch to the Print
Preview.
This is really sad.  
Does anybody else have any ideas what I can further do?

be an empty frame is shown.

Platform: Kubuntu Wily AMD64 with Libreoffice from Libreoffice 5.1 PPA (5.1.0
rc3).

Reverting to current LO (5.0.5 rc2) from Kubuntu Wily the problem disappears.

Thanks for all your replys!

I tested it once more and recognized one maybe important thing.  If I make a
double click on the not shown image then the dialogue box "Image" with the tab
MACRO is opened and under Assignments the entry Event = "Could not load image"
is selected.  Together a second dialogue box "JRE is Defective: LibreOffice
requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. The selected
JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select
it under Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Advanced." is opened.

Under TOOLS is in my case a correct Java Oracle entry shown.  If I check my
Java version then it shows that it is up-to-date and I see no problems with it.

Maybe, there was a bug with my last Java update?  I will try to re-install Java
to check it.

@V Stuart Foote: I have the same result in both cases.

On Windows 8.1 Ent 64-bit en-US with
Version: 5.1.0.3 (x64)
Build ID: 5e3e00a007d9b3b6efb6797a8b8e57b51ab1f737
CPU Threads: 8; OS Version: Windows 6.29; UI Render: default; 
Locale: en-US (en_US)

So what is the format of the image being pasted? Is it just with pasting, or is
your Insert -> Image also being affected?
