Yes - absolutely ! :-)

 My question is:
What is the difference between bugs posted under 'Writer' section with
the keyword 'FILEOPEN', to bugs in the 'filter and storage' section?

Ah - so FILEOPEN (I think) is a special keyword added by the bugzilla
assistant that you can use via: Help-Send Feedback.

To me - it seems as if all the bugs under that have the 'FILEOPEN'
keyword should be under the 'filters and storage' section, no?

Ah - I -think- that that is prolly a rather under-used bugzilla
section; in general we file ~all filter bugs along with the component
that the filter is associated with: so writer bugs vs. writer, calc vs.
calc and so on.

So - actually, I have no idea why that component exists :-)

Any other input ?

ATB,

Michael.

Hi Adam,

although the answer might not be really satisfying: Components starting
with a lowercase [1] are for developers wrangling deep in the guts of
LibO, we normal users normally don't have the skills to follow
discussion there. But they are not unused [2]. Sometimes developers
submit such bugs to track the activities in a particular code area,
sometimes a normal FILESAVE Bug mutates because developers see some
deeper relations they want to proceed.

Resume (very similar to Michael's): That's for the core developers,
don't care about these Components, there are good reasons why they do
not appear in the Bug Submission Assistant.

But I see a problem, [2] shows a lot of bugs where the filters and
storage Component only is worrying, I believe any UNCONFIRMED Bug there
[3] is suspicious. If users select one of these Components they only
prevent other users from checking and confirming. I will take that on my
review-todo list.

Best regards

Rainer

Maybe... I can not follow your reasoning.

An unconfirmed bug must be confirmed. IMHO many unconfirmed bug are not

This is not a special problem of new/other users. It is a problem of
everyone reading the bugreport - also for advanced-QA-people.

Advanced-QA-people are IMHO not deterred by unconfirmed.
Newbabies are deterred by circumstantiality, time required, patience or
uncertainty. Unconfirmed is IMHO not the problem.

Adam Fyne píše v Po 15. 04. 2013 v 08:18 -0700:
 Hi,
This is my first mail sent to the 'libreoffice-qa' mail-list.

Welcome here.

I hope this is the correct method of doing things... My question is:
What is the difference between bugs posted under 'Writer' section with
the keyword 'FILEOPEN', to bugs in the 'filter and storage' section?
To me - it seems as if all the bugs under that have the 'FILEOPEN'
keyword should be under the 'filters and storage' section, no? Best,

Good question. The uppercase names are used to crate subcomponents in
the bugzilla components. For example, it is useful to separate RTF
import/export bugs from the other Writer bugs. The subcomponent is
usually created when we see a particular developer interested into some
particular bugs.

In addition, there are two types of components. The components with the
uppercase initial letter are the primary components that should be easy
to understand. These are offered in the bugzilla assistant, see
https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/

The components with low letters and kind of internal. They make sense
for certain bugs but normal people might have troubles to understand the
content. So, they are not offered in the bugzilla assistant. They are
used by bug triagers and developers.

You might find some documentation at
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport_Details#Components
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FAQ#How_to_use_subcomponents
Note that subcomponents are well supported by the bugzilla assistant,
see https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/

Back to your question. As Michael said, we prefer to enter import/export
bugs for the application-related components, e.g Writer, Calc. The
component filters and storage is intended for the I/O infrastructure
shared between applications. These need to be soled by more universal
hackers. You see that this component use low letters, so it is the one
for the special cases.

I hope that it makes sense.

Petr

I thin that Rainer wanted to say that these components with lover case
names have a special content. Normal users could not put bugs there by
the bugzilla assistant. You need to understand the bug in more details
to decide to put the bug into these components.

By other words, I think that the bugs might be easy to reproduce and
understand. The only more complicated thing is to decide whether this
component should be used. Of course, there might be also hard to
understand bugs if they are reported by developers and include only some
implementation details.

I hope that it makes some sense :-)

[Libreoffice-qa] [ANN] LibreOffice 4.0.3 RC1 available

2013-04-18 Thread Thorsten Behrens
Dear Community,

The Document Foundation is pleased to announce the first release
candidate of our upcoming LibreOffice 4.0.3. This will be the third in
a series of frequent updates to our feature-packed 4.0 branch. Please
be aware that LibreOffice 4.0.3 RC1 is not ready for production use,
you should continue to use LibreOffice 4.0.2 for that.

The release is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X from our QA
builds download page at

  http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/

Should you find bugs, please report them to the FreeDesktop Bugzilla:

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org

A good way to assess the release candidate quality is to run some
specific manual tests on it, our TCM wiki page has more details:

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests#Full_Regression_Test

  - or checkout our manual test database for starting right away -

 http://manual-test.libreoffice.org/runtests/

For other ways to get involved with this exciting project - you can
e.g. contribute code:

  http://www.libreoffice.org/get-involved/developers/

translate LibreOffice to your language:

  http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/LibreOffice_Localization_Guide

or help with funding our operations:

  http://donate.libreoffice.org/

A list of known issues and fixed bugs with 4.0.3 RC1 is available
from our wiki:

  http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/4.0.3/RC1

Let us close again with a BIG Thank You! to all of you having
contributed to the LibreOffice project - this release would not have
been possible without your help.
