Hi All,

Don't forget this weekend is our 4.3 bug hunting session! We really
need as many people as possible testing 4.3 now so that developers can

An experienced QA person should be around most of the weekend to help
walk you through the steps.

To download /_*latest daily build*_/ of 4.3 please go here:

For /_*info on the bug hunting session*_/ see our wiki:

you have a spare hour this weekend, join the chat, say hello, and get
involved :)

Hi Derek,

Sorry you are so challenged by what have been incremental improvements to
the LibreOffice user interface and function.

Fortunately, you are welcome to roll back to earlier releases more in line
with your comfort level.

Historical builds are vailable for direct download here:
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

Please understand that as your use becomes further and further removed from
the cadre of knowledgeable users your ability to obtain help or assistance
with these older versions will degrade. And of course current developer
support is restricted to the 4.3.0, 4.2.4 and for a little while longer the
4.1.6 release.

Good luck.

Given the unpleasant intersection of legal / license issues around this

Why do you think they wont kick it out cause it's competition? Besides
where's the userbase of Windows 8? Android is a better goal, and Google

[Libreoffice-qa] QA - LO4.0 - I'm a newbie testing, I need to know how to check if a bug exists

2012-12-17 Thread Juan Matias de la Camara
Hello... after all I'm new testing, so... I'm sorry because this stupid
question.

I'm trying the test case #56 from MozTrap, about exporting to OOXML.

The exported document lacks some features (for example horizontal lines I
have in a ODT and DOC versions).

There is a place where I can find the features OOXML exportation is suposed
to have?

Also I have another issue. When I double click an ODT file (or type
"lodev4.0 myfile.odt"), LO opens and then crash... how can I find if this
bug exists? (I mean, there are a lot of bugs in the bug list... is there
any code to catalog bugs so they are easy to find?)

Thanks!

Well, I searched Google for it, and according to some, it was cause of
overload. This kind of random behaviour is a symptom of the same; as you
said before, it's only happens for a specified period of the day which
suggests there's a lot of traffic to be served at that time.

Error 500 means Internal server error; Apache could be returning this
code when it's overloaded, but 503 would've been better. But this could
be a database overload instead (i/o bottleneck, MySQL didn't respond
etc..), so Apache sends 500.

As of the current time, it appears LO has more functions than Excel (as
per the attached document in the bug). So it's kind of a good comparison
favouring LO.

Also this's good work!

Sorry about that, and for the delay.

My PC is dead, so it'll take some time to check.

If this problem is reproducible with 3.6 beta, I'll report.

Are these static builds? Cause when extracting from RPMs, they complained

Exactly. We need to keep the 50 or 200 bugs slightly aside. Do not
worry. We already put many less critical regressions aside but we fix
them actively.

What I suggest is a metabug for interoperability issues. These issues
are hard to fix, and the dev team should know that these bugs, although
hard to fix, are very important and if some dev does have the skills to
fix them, he should fix these bugs instead of doing something else.

Yes, we have several developers that worked and are working on
import/export problems.

Also in the list of ~200 bugs, I think real bugs will be only in ~50..
the others must be duplicates; the same bug reproducing itself in many
way. But these duplicates can only be detected by developers themselves
since this requires knowledge of the format.

It will be a big help if you could sort these interoperability bugs:

+ group them
+ prioritize them
+ close duplicates

In this case, I prefer using whiteboard instead of metabug:

+ it works fine (easy to set and query)
+ we already use it for bug in rtf import/export,
   general regressions, or easy hacks
+ it is clear where to add comment (to the particular bug :-)

The only drawback is that you need to remember the name of the keyword
but you would need to remember the number of the meta bug as well.

I suggest to put:

+ "inter-operability" into "Whiteboard" for all these bugs
+ plus "regression" in "Keywords" for things that used to work
   in older LO/OOo versions; this information is very helpful;
even better is if someone finds what exact version first
   showed the regression
+ and maybe plus "doc_filter", "docx_filter", "ppt_filter",
   "pptx_filter", "xls_filter", "xlsx_filter" into "Whiteboard"
+ we already have "rtf_filter"
+ every format has its own group of experts that work on
it, so this help them to find their bugs

I would add query for open "inter-operability" bugs at
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Release_Criteria. Take inspiration
from the query for "regressions".

If you have many bugs in more groups, it would make sense to create
similar pages that we have for easy hacks. Please, find inspiration at
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/Easy_Hacks_by_Topic

I am looking forward to see this happen. It will be another big step
forward.

Petr

could track that.

As a final thought - playing with the 'Most Annoying Bugs' is really
the pinacle of the QA effort :-) I'd suggest that for each person adding

+1 Michael.

Why we all think that bugs more interesting for us, must be the most
important for project?. Every time, we need to remember that we aren't
the bellybutton of world?.

No, I came to the conclusion via market statistics. If I want to see a
complex doc(x), xls(x), ppt(x) etc... I use google docs... I've no
issues, and for exports I use PDF.

So this issue generally matters the most.

Why we don't rethink twice in community/project terms, prior to set
the importance level to the bug?.

Thinking about how much people can be affected?, Maybe only me?; Is
there a workaround?; Is it only the format affected, or we need the
photoshop to do it?; Can be a regression with not visible implications
in calculation results?, etc.

We all must remember, devs are persons, not an entelechy to our
service. IMHO as we do, they appreciate the courtesy and good and
brief explanations. Because as must be, our priorities aren't their
priorities, we need to gain them for our bug.

If was possible to add a little help like the Os field have, to the
fields Severity and Priority, could help people understand better the
meaning of this fields.

When I say the usage is very low, I'm looking at the statistics of
google search results and the marketing tactics of commercial office suits.

Looking at these I find use of ODF only in opensource communities.
Practically it has not been adopted anywhere, and that's why commercial
office suits (who are more business oriented) do not give much
preference to ODF.

[Libreoffice-qa] Office XP/2003, 2007/2010 formats import/export -- most used feature.

2012-04-23 Thread dE .

Hello everyone!

The MAB has been chaotic lately... actually it turned out that I didn't
get a lot of mails and missed out a lot of comments following the LONG
discussion in the bug... so sorry about that, I noticed them now.

What I've been trying to add to MAB are broken import/export
features/regressions of Office XP/2003, 2007/2010 formats. Everyone
should realize that this's the most important and features of LO,
without which it's adoption is impossible.

No one uses ODF... any non-IT personal uses Office XP/2003, 2007/2010
formats, and that's apparent when you search for docs on the web.

Yes, nowadays most of them are PDF, but next comes doc/docx/ppt/pptx etc...
Whatever documents you get in ODF, are IT related, on top of that it's
the rarest possible case you get one.

In enterprise environments, this's always the case.

For libreoffice to be used anywhere except for IT environments, the
Office XP/2003, 2007/2010 format import/export should be perfect,
otherwise the software cannot be adopted by any chance.

You can take a hint form commercial products, they always advertise
support for Office XP/2003, 2007/2010 formats, cause they know it's the
most important feature.

And as of the current time, there're regressions over regressions in
this field. Since the OOo fork, i/o bugs have boomed in the bugzilla and
everyone's complaining about it.

It's very easy to get hands on documents which do not open/open
incorrectly in LO. LO even breaks existing Office XP/2003, 2007/2010
formats causing data loss. Imagine someone sending a .docx saved via
libreoffice which does not open or opens wrongly formatting in MS
office... he'll come to know about that bug when it's too late, this's
surely going to make um leave LO at that moment.

These bugs are more critical than a few crashes and I estimate there're
~200 bugs in LO's bugzilla alone.
