Re: [Libreoffice-qa] Tinderbox builds

2013-12-10 Thread V Stuart Foote
I just downloaded and did a /A administrative install of the same 4.2.0beta2+
build onto Windows XP sp3 (as a VMWare guest OS on WIndows 7 sp1, 64-bit).

Version: 4.2.0.0.beta2+
Build ID: 02180aed7dc0b8c5f9cc23b319adc2386a9aab69
TinderBox: Win-x86@42, Branch:libreoffice-4-2, Time: 2013-12-08_08:48:31

So it comes up clean and fully functional, so not exactly the issue of
fdo#72451 as affecting builds of master. Installer handled the configuration
variables correctly on XP. Hmm, weird!

Shame there are no symbols for the 4.2 beta or you could use WinDbg, or its
dbghelp.dll with ProcessMonitor to review the faulting calls.
ProcessMonitor might still be helpful--but probably best to wait 'til the
next TB-42 build to see if it is still throwing the fatal error on your
install.

@Pedro,

I suspect that was the fdo#72451
<https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72451> issue (clobbered
builds from the 7th - 10th) already corrected on master and also should be
fixed on the 4.2 branch. But with TB-42 hung, can't tell at the moment.
Gave Thorsten a nudge last night. Hopefully we'll have a 4.2.0beta2+ build
to check against soon.

Ping :)

It would be nice to have TDF daily builds on the 4.2 branch to test
features/detect bugs (otherwise we reach the RC stage and the answer is "Too
late"...)
For some reason today's daily build from TB#42

downloading 100 to 200MB per iteration is not a nice solution for anyone.

iow such nice gui wrapper should really use a bibisect repo under the
cover rather than downloading daily builds...

of course windows pose 'special' challenge... a bibisect repo for
windows should not accumulate msi fiels as they do not lend themself
well to compression in git
but SI-GUI could probably be tauch to use a 'pre-installed' version...
doing wahtever tweak windows need in the cover to fake a 'real'
install when one switch from one version to the other in the bibisect
repo

Hi!
Apart from availability of daily builds is it possible to increase the
storage space available for tinderbox builds? Seems currently only 14 latest
builds of each branch are available (when all works like expected). This
doesn't allow to think about building any regression/bisect script/tool
(based on SI-GUI?) for Windows, which would download a build, install it,
ask a question, save answer, download earlier build if needed etc. This
would allow to get more people without technical knowledge into regression
testing if few simple steps. Latest poll results are very encouraging,
people are willing to help.
Best regards.

Excellent. I will wait for those then.
I think I will ignore the 4.3 branch for now (until 4.2.0 RC1 is out, at
least) and stick with 4.2 dailies.

My understanding now is that people should use the TDF daily builds (e.g.
from tinderbox #47 for the Windows OS). If the TDF builds fail, ping the
Tinderbox owner :)

Thanks!

Thank you for adding the 4.2 branch. In fact TB#42 is currently the only one
producing dailies for that branch.
Could you please adjust the file naming from libo-42 to libreoffice-4-2 ?

On a separate note: TB#42 is creating folders for the 4.1 branch but no

It would be nice if there was some explanation from the devs as to what is
the goal of each Tinderbox. E.g. Tinderbox #47 produces an installer and an
offline help similar to the final one except that it only included en_US
(therefore the installer is 132Mb in size)
However the Master builds for TB#39 and TB#42 are 125Mb and 121Mb
respectively
What was removed? What are the goals of this builds? Using this build
instead of #47 allows to prove/test something?

Thanks,

That is partly true :) If you have downloaded a binary from one of the TB
and you don't have the txt file, how do you know from which TB it came from?

I know there is always a workaround. But isn't it easier to just have the
computer generate a simple txt file? If this functionality already exists
(and works as expected, as proven by TB #47) isn't it possible to adopt this
as a default procedure for all TBs?

V Stuart Foote wrote
> And functionally, for todays builds of master TB-39 has the --enable-ia2

Ok. But what is the difference between 42 and 47? Also, what should people
test in IA2? Is it on by default? Is there a hidden switch to turn it on?

This brings me back to the question: which build should users download? Is
testing IA2 important or are there features in the builds from the other
TBs that are more crucial/urgent to test?

Cheers,
Pedro

Re: [Libreoffice-qa] Tinderbox builds

2013-11-22 Thread V Stuart Foote
Pedro,

Text file is not "needed"! It is just convenient ;-)

It is trivial to view the details of the TB builds of Master --
http://tinderbox.libreoffice.org/MASTER/status.html just match the time-stamp
of the build to the "buld time" collumn and side across to the collumn for the
TB your reviewing. The bottom of the corresponding block is the start of the
build, and build logs are porvided in the details. Those are the exact details
as get parsed for the "text" file.

The details you shuld be interested in are the configuration line, to determine
what features are included in the build, and SHA-1 HASH ID of the last commit
included in the build, and maybe who is managing the TB -- should you need to
poke them.

Review the commits here--setting repository to master or one of the
branches--change from "log msg" to "range" and enter the SHA-1 HASH for the
build ID (its last included commit):
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/

Also, since we just split the 4.2.0beta branch off from master--so there is a
brand new 4.2 Tinderbox Status --
http://tinderbox.libreoffice.org/libreoffice-4-2/status.html but no TBs have
been assigned/spun up there yet. Todays builds are all still against master and
are found in that status. But that will change near term. Same layout and
review of the build logs here.

And functionally, for todays builds of master TB-39 has the --enable-ia2 build
flag for IAccessible2 AT support, TB-42 and TB-47 do not.

Stuart

Don't mind it. That was just nitpicking about language/the citation
style. Use of "this" to refer to something where it is totally
unstated what "this" is.
You quoted parts that were about why builds from one bot were larger
than others/different configure flags used, and what configure flags
are used have nothing to do with the uploading problem. Again: Just
nitpicking. Tried to make that clear with the smily, but failed, Just
forgot that I wrote it :-)

> ... :( Do you mean, that this thread is not about TB 46 or something else?

That when you tell somebody: "Have I already told you about this?",
then the other person needs to have a clue what you mean with "this"
before that person can give an answer.

So yes, this thread is about some tinderboxes not providing dailies,
and yes, all should have been fixed.

Yes, indeed that is the case. While the TDF-bots use the --with-distro
switch the @42 one uses a minimalistic configure line. That explains
the difference in size.
Not necessarily a bad thing to have bots build with different
switches, so the below statement:

>> @thorsten - bug in the tinderbox scripts?

was not related to the different options, but that the bot did only
send empty logs to tinderbox and didn't provide any info on its
configure switches with the uploaded binaries.

>>
> If anything, then the setup. Someone throw me over a autogen.input to
> use, and I stick it in. ;)

Oh, not about you should switch to some other flags, just that your
bot doesn't upload the build-info along with the binaries (configure
options/configure output) and also the logs on tinderbox are empty.

They only contain the metadata and the tinderboxprint statment that
specifies the revision that was built, but no actual console output of
the builds.

http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86@42/2013-11-16_00.17.12/

or empty buildlogs like this:
http://tinderbox.libreoffice.org/cgi-bin/gunzip.cgi?tree=MASTER&full-log=1384557601.3379

So buildresults now have been fixed, recent builds actually have a
log, but there is no build-info snippet uploaded along with the msis.

But there have been changes in the buildsystem, where I had the fix
applied, but in all the wisdom to the wrong copy of the file. Shame on

is this also the reason, why TB 46 still does not build new dailies?
Could have a look at it as well, please?
Thank you in advance and have a nice evening

Hmm. Not sure why it asks for restart, OTOH I don't install LO all
that often on windows myself...

It probably differes, as it uses the release-style build configuration
- it has every feature enabled that is also enabled for the release
builds (except for the languages) not sure what @42 uses, as it
uploads empty logs, doesn't upload the build-info snippet, and doesn't
have any special info on the tinderbox page...

So my guess it is the extension integration, the bundling of the
dictionaries, the enabling of the mozab connector (that then also
bundles additional microsoft-runtimes)

@thorsten - bug in the tinderbox scripts?

Yeah, will also have to rename the Mac-TDF one, as I forgot to add it
to the wiki page and in the meantime some other bot took #48 :-)

(No problem for tinderbox, as tinderbox doesn't care about those IDs)
