Agree with Jay and Heiko, this doesn't belong to the template manager.
Closing as WONTFIX as we have a (mostly) working solution in the stylist.

Of course perfectly fine - the only that counts is that there is a good
solution somewhere ;)

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 90558] Find & Replace Within Selection

There appear to be different usage cases of Find & Replace not all of which are
accommodated by the current design.

The one I'd like to see made easier is when selecting an area in which several
Find & Replaces are to be done. In the current version (5.1.5.2), after the
first F&R, the original selection is deselected meaning that the user must
re-select the text and then F&R the next text. In that case, I would like the
original text to remain selected and the "Current selection only" checkbox to
remain checked so I can move back and forth between the "Search For" and
"Replace With" edit boxes followed by the "Replace" or "Replace All" buttons.

Perhaps we need another checkbox under "Other options" for "Retain current
selection" which is visible only if "Current selection only" is checked.

Yes doing the horizontal list/toolbar popup rather than the vertical menu might
allow dialogs/pop-outs to function normally. Not sure how involved a change of
the "plumbing" for the toolbar -> overflow to menu list becomes. But seems it
would be a better UI.

Visually we'd of course want to drop the labeling that now shows on the menu
for the button widgets if organized into a horizontal list/toolbar popup.

So i recently saw a similar UI implemented with qbittorrent and we recently
implemented a not enough space popup feature in the notebookbar.

Forgive me if I'm being stupid, but please point me in direction of "(mostly)
working solution", as far as I can see there has been no progress since this
bug was first initiated.
The new Styles - Load Styles in LO 5 is no different from Format - Styles and
Formatting - Load Styles in LO 3.5
In LO 5, I still cannot move or copy individual styles between templates or
documents, only load all styles from one 'writer' document into the current one
- only Writer.
This is possible in LO 3.5 and not since, and was the point of the original bug
report.
I believe it was in the Template Manager because the subject was moving/copying
styles between templates and documents, not editing styles.

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 102002] New: Redesign of the Load Styles dialog

2016-09-08 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102002

Bug ID: 102002
Summary: Redesign of the Load Styles dialog
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.3.0.0.alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-b...@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: philip...@hotmail.com
CC: libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org

Writer has the Style > Load Style dialog which allows a user to import styles
from templates or files, but the user experience isnt as useful as it could be
for the intended target audience.

So here are a list of features that are needed to improve it.

1) The dialog needs to be accessible in all modules

2) A 'source' drop down list should be the first control a user interacts with
and it has two entries in it for 'Templates' and 'Documents'

3) The template category listbox would have a first entry called 'All
Categories', similar to the template manager, and the list would be disabled if
source is set to 'Documents'.

4) When source is set to 'Documents', the templates listbox will list opened
documents from the same module

5) When source is set to 'Documents', the 'From File...' will be enabled and
selecting a file in the dialog will add its filename to the templates listbox

6) Instead of style type checkboxes to import all or none of the styles of a
particular type, the selected file's styles will be shown in a tree view so a
user can not only easily check and uncheck all of the styles of particular
type, but can also select particular ones

7) The overwrite checkbox should be changed to a drop down list and have the
options ignore, overwrite, and append to decide what to do with duplicate
entries.

My only concern with these features is in number 6, as i wonder how resource
intensive it is to parse a file's style structure. I'll leave it up to devs to
give their input on how plausible it is, though it was a feature found in the
template management dialog of the template manager in LO 3.6.

Yes, reasonable in ongoing efforts in making structuring documents with styles
the norm rather than exception.

Of course it needs to be available and consistent UI across all modules, not
just Writer.

So its important that we name the left button pane, as the name should be read
out by screen readers. I was thinking something like Application Pane. With a
blank profile, the start center says '... pick an app from the left side ...'
in the thumbnail view list.
