[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 102302] 'Title Slide' and 'Centered Text' slide layouts ignores content colors

2016-09-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102302

(In reply to Yousuf Philips (jay) from comment #8)
* Master provides access to subtitles next to the auto-layouts

Alternative solutions, except of killing styles:
* Master is not used to deal with styles, i.e. no font color
* Master is/can be defined per slide layout (Slide design is actually a dialog
to access templates per Load...); Microsoft Powerpoint works like this
* Styles dialog gets an overhaul and it becomes clear what style can be changed

* Workaround: Sidebar shows Styles and Formatting > Presentation Styles in
master edit mode with a WYSIWYG preview; the subtitle is part of this list

Presentation styles cannot be applied to the selection, meaning I cannot switch
a subtitle into a title. That's confusing since Graphic Styles, which are
applied to text boxes and have the same look and feel as auto-layouts, work as
expected. When we rename this style to Master Style it would be more clear (or
we drop one of the styles *g*).

Well i guess my issue boils down to a user being able to modify all the various
placeholder textboxes and their styles interactively in master slide mode
except for subtitle, where they would have to use the styles sidebar in order
to modify it.

We have the 'object area for autolayouts' placeholder textbox which occupies
the same space used by the subtitle textbox in Title Slide layout, but the
textbox doesnt have a first line with text like 'Click to edit the subtitle
text format', so a user could get easy access to modifying it.

Not having an easily accessible interactive means of modifying the subtitle in
master slide mode is bad UX and something the average user wont discover as the
only means to modify it is in a dialog.

So i guess we can reopen this bug to address this issue, or we can start up a
new bug about it.

Having the placeholder presentation objects on the master slide in addition to
the style&formatting dialog is first time confusing. But that is not a reason
to drop the styles. Do not kill styles from Impress.

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 33304] Header / Footer should be inserted into margin, not into text body

2016-09-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33304

Document processor developers are free to define the "coordinate system" for
header/footer relative to text body or page margins. BUT, this convention
should be clear so that users can appropriately design their page lay-out.

It becomes crucial in thes current context of document exchange between
platforms (with different fonts, therefore change in character sizes, width and
height), locales and text processing applications.

When the conventions for body/header/footer is known and defined, the
conversion modules should recompute the placement of these areas in the target
"coordinate system".

Some may object that OASIS (or other coordinating body) did not foresee the
problem and that the ODF does not contain elements to cope with this issue.
This a very serious shortcoming impeding "safe" document exchange.

Independently from visual fidelity to author intent, it is not acceptable to
confer a standard role to a commercial proprietary application (even if it is
the predominant one in the world) since its specifications may change without
notice in unexpected areas and because some people made the deliberate choice
not to use it. Also, the abrupt change of layout cause by this bug can have an
economic impact: if total number of pages increases, this may mean another
section (don't know if it the right word: a new large sheet folded into a 16-,
32- or 64-page section) to add to a printed book, i.e. more money to spend to
manufacture the book. If the nuber decreases, we are faced with a non-optimal
use of paper.

IMHO, this a very serious bug which should be addressed quickly because it
threatens the position of LO as a challenger of ubiquitous M$O and prevents
presently a full replacement of said M$O by LO.

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of
LibreOffice
(5.1.5 or 5.2.1 https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of

RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave
a short comment that includes your version of LibreOffice and Operating System

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3)

http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo";

Ah :) then select the frame, right click and choose Edit style, and notice the

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 102203] UI - Command Insert / Page Number is confusing

2016-09-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102203

Cor Nouws changed:

   What|Removed |Added

   Hardware|x86-64 (AMD64) |All
Version|5.1.5.2 release |5.1.0.0.alpha0+ Master
 OS|Windows (All) |All

so the rationale is that it's a design decision whether or not to allow a page
number on a type of slide (master page) and a user decision whether or not to
use it.
Help says (on top of the page) "Adds or changes text in placeholders at the top
and the bottom of slides and slide masters." I do not see a reference to the
choice given to show/hide master elements (Slide > Master elements).
Maybe the UI / dialog could make that link clear?

Hi Eric,

The menu allows to insert a page number (and a field 'date time' (or foo) and a
field title), when I didn't add this type of content before. So 'Insert' makes
sense from that perspective?
OTOH, indeed there is a hidden relation with "Slide > Master elements"

(In version 3.3.0.4 it was 'hidden' in View > Model > Master Elements)

If you switch the slide layout to centered text the font color is black.

hmm... I don't understand the problem.
attachment 127447 behaves as I would expect: red text in title text box and
green in other text boxes from page layouts .. ?

It's not finished. The cut and copy buttons are still there on the toolbar.
As for me, I think these two should be removed.
