Well maybe it might be too much for all of them, but you are agreeing that
master slide would be good to have one. @Stuart, @Sophie, @Regina: What do you
guys think of having shortcuts for the various views, even if its just the most
important ones? Shortcut suggestions would also be helpful. :D

Done. Might be useful to have shortcuts for clone and delete slide as well. Was
thinking about shortcuts like Ctrl + plus, Ctrl + minus and Ctrl + multiply. :D

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 107248] New: Improvements to the version control dialog

2017-04-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107248

Bug ID: 107248
Summary: Improvements to the version control dialog
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: Inherited From OOo
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: bibisectRequest
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-b...@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: philip...@hotmail.com
CC: alexarn...@hypra.fr, c...@nouenoff.nl,
libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org,
todven...@suomi24.fi, vstuart.fo...@utsa.edu,
xiscofa...@libreoffice.org
Blocks: 102019, 107247

So the version control dialog ( File > Versions ) needs some improvements, so
lets give our input on it here.

1. The dialog title used to begin with the string 'Versions of ' before the
filename, but this strangely went missing in 4.2. @Xisco, @Bouvjaga: Can you
bibisect this?

2. A checkbox entitled 'Show version comment when saving' would be useful, so
that a user can always fill in this field when a new version is saved (on
closing or on saving). It would be useful for the user to be able to set this
option on a global and per file level.

3. Would be useful to be able to sort the grid by its columns. Feature is
available in the manage track changes dialog.

4. Would be useful to be able to filter the grid by date (to and from) and by
author. Feature is available in the manage track changes dialog.

Heiko has submitted a redesign concept in attachment 132649, so here are some
comments for it.

1. The function buttons were removed in favour of a grid selection context
menu, which i believe will make the dialog less a11y accessible. @Stuart, Alex:
Any input?

2. The user column was removed from the grid, but believe it would be useful
when a document is modified by multiple users.

3. Not sure many users would be interested in the size column.

4. The show comment button was removed in favour of showing the entire comment
in the grid, so though most users will normally leave short comments, what
happens when it is quite long?

5. The original dialog had a CMIS button, so how would that be implemented in
the new mockup.

Yes thats true, but this bug report is limited to this enhancement.

> The major problem comes from the fact that Save and Versions... are
> separated. So the attached idea goes beyond the simple option and introduces
> a further checkbox (the same as suggested in Tools > Options) and a link in
> the file dialog. The linked version dialog is cleaned up for this purpose.

The suggestion for the checkbox in the Save dialog is already suggested (bug
88997) and the checkbox in the options dialog would automatically enable it
there as well as in the Versions dialog. The redesign of the Versions dialog,
should go into another bug report.

Was afraid of this answer ;-).

So what we need is an indicator at the various properties which one has been
overridden. For example, "Caption" has the children "Drawing" and when font
style is set bold there instead of italic from the parent it should get an
identification. Known solutions are a small icon next to the label, simpler is
to add a * to the label or to modify it's appearance, e.g. text in blue. But
the latter could get into conflict with the theme.

The majority of users likely do not write poems every day, and the first
sentence after salutation is also not necessarily capitalized (your example
would be wrong in German). So I'd say the feature is better realized with an
extension. But if a developer would implement another option like "Always
capitalize after return" which is off by default it won't hurt the average
users. And for sake of consistency with Impress it makes sense to introduce
this option. In Impress it's known as "Capitalize first letter of every
sentence".

Was looking for a workaround with bullet lists where indentation is set to zero
and the bullet char is hidden. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yes the default shortcuts are for the US keyboard but we also have locale based
shortcuts, so if there are particular german shortcuts that arent working,
please provide the shortcut and what it should be changed to. Would be good to
check other office suites to see what shortcuts they use for the particular
commands that are being requested to be changed.

See bug 88027 for how we previously fixed similar issues.

@Heiko: This report is about managing the content of hierarchical styles in the
Style dialog.

You can set a property back to 'inherit': In the style properties go to the
tab, which contains the property. Then click on button "Standard". Go back to
'Organizer' tab and look what has been removed.
Unfortunately there is no way to set a single property of the tab page back to
'inherit'.
And sometimes the property is removed but still shown in 'Organizer' tab.

There are similar requests in bug 89826, bug 77325 and bug 88921.

The second is about making the inheritance visible in the tab pages. I can
think of making the item "italic" or for field entries adding an indicator
before or after the content, e.g. '(i) 12pt' instead of simple '12 pt'. No idea
how to do it for other kind of controls.

The problem is very old see https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=3148

I support both requests.

F5/F9 duplication is weird. Powerpoint uses F5 to start from beginning and
Shift+F5 from current as we do. So unlike Cor I'm in favor to eliminate F9 and
ctrl+F2 (easy to revert, though).

Global shortcuts for the views might be too much. We have hotkeys (alt+V,
alt+N/O/D/_N_ (again)/A (missing Notes), the modes tab bar is there, and means
to deal with some views in the sidebar. On the other hand it may be handy to
switch between master slides and normal view. No shortcut for this function in
Powerpoint.

Add (aka new) slide is definitely worth a shortcut. The similar function on
Calc is Insert Sheet, and on Writer perhaps Page break. So how about
ctrl+enter? Powerpoint has ctrl+M for this.

Don't understand your problem. You modify the style, e.g. per right click in
the styles & formatting sidebar, and it is not clear what happens? The preview
is not that bad, IMHO.

Or do you make a direct formatting via toolbar > font size, for instance, and
wonder what happen to the style.

And last but not least you could talk about paragraph style vs. character style
that is not easily to discriminate from each other when applied to the whole
paragraph.

The semicolon is not assigned to a function in 5.3, but square brackets are and
that would be in fact not only hard to handle with German keyboards but not
accessible at all (ctrl+altgr+8 replaced the selection with [ instead to
increase the font size). That's why I would understand the issue as a bug.

I think the fair advice is to not use keys other than A..Z and the numbers.
That would be the easy reply and result in some missing default shortcuts
(increase/decrease in case of the square brackets). Alternatively we could
improve the customization and provide different factory settings dependent on
the localization. But I wonder if l10n appreciates this idea.

Created attachment 132649

Extended file browser

The checkbox at Tools > Options would be a first and easy to implement step.
But the function would be quite hidden and whether it's on or off is not
exposed to the user in the normal workflow.

The major problem comes from the fact that Save and Versions... are separated.
So the attached idea goes beyond the simple option and introduces a further
checkbox (the same as suggested in Tools > Options) and a link in the file
dialog. The linked version dialog is cleaned up for this purpose.

Wouldn't call it a wizard but agree that page numbering is not as obvious as
line and outline numbers. We should consider to merge those, and I'm not sure
if users expect also the usual numbering/bullets at the same dialog. Started a
redesign but that takes a little bit more grooming.

The question to me is whether or not the page numbering has special needs
compared to other types. Needs in terms of ODF definitions, which I guess is

20.314 style:num-format
20.258 style:first-page-number

But then we do also have 7.3.4 text:page-number (Insert > Page Number) that
could easily be mixed-up with the style. Leading to the point where an
extension as mentioned in comment 3 makes no sense because "Insert page number"
overrides the *insert field* function with *format page style*. And messing up
with labels doesn't solve it because the underlying concept is not made for
Benjamin.

Putting all together I vote for a new dialog for numbering in general with a
clean concept for all types.

Awesome for all the feedback. I will implement whatever is usefull. The main
bug i have is now that priority didn`t work in a context group, this hase to be
fixed that the scaling for smaller sizes will work.
The second bug is the repainting bug.
Do someone know how to add a vertical separator that was shown on gtk and qt?
Now it was only shown in windows.
