[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 142057] Improvement to User Interface Variants

2021-05-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142057

The use of the word "Toolbar" in the option name can cause confusion to a user.
I am experienced with LibreOffice being one of the Technical Writers on the LO
Documentation Team and I got confused with these option names using "Toolbar".
Standard Toolbar is a separate toolbar that is only one part of the standard
user interface.
Changing the user interface is about the whole of the user interface, not just
toolbars.
The actual name for the dialog looks very amateurish as if this concept of
changing user interface has not been thoroughly thought out. The dialog should
be titled with its purpose UI Variants or Changing User Interface.

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 141869] Rephrase "Insert Reference To" items

2021-05-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=141869

(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #1)
> (In reply to Eyal Rozenberg from comment #0)
> > "Insert reference to" -> "Refer using:"
> Not an advantage in my non-native ears.

"Insert reference to" is ambiguous. It can mean:

1. Choose what element of the document the reference you're inserting will
target.
2. Choose what aspect of the target will be used as the text of the reference.

My suggestion can only mean (2.)

> > "Reference"   -> "Reference target text"
> Why not "Reference source text" (of course without "source")

Because references don't have a source, they only have a target. There is no
source text to reference.

> > "Above/Below" -> ""Above"/"Below""  (i.e. add quotation marks)
> The reference is not using quotation, don't see need for it.

Again, it disambiguates. The current text may mean:

1. The reference will be above or below something unspecified.
2. The reference text will be either "above" or "below".

> See help (-> URL) for more.

I didn't quite understand this last bit of your comment.

Sorry, don't see how this might change or improve things in any sense.

And, remember that these labels must be "localized" along with the rest of the
user interface.

Agreed, but those are short labels, which could use a 1-sentence/2-sentence

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 141986] Improve current LO Application Colors theme handling to support a LibreOffice "dark" color scheme mode

2021-05-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=141986

@Heiko, good start. Didn't we recently do away with the need to decimal code
the colors? So, the "2364108" could/should be "2412CC", or was that just Dante
for the sm modules...

Also, in the rendering of your 1st patch, attachment 171611, the comments are
laid out on a non-theme controlled frame so onto that hardcoded lightgray
value.

Also, the Table cells are an uncontrolled white background, with a balck fg
font--that's an issue.

Likewise the Chart axis labeling seems uncontrolled black fg font.

I'm sure there are other places the os/DE theme and current Application Colors
do not touch--and will need some dev attention more than just a new set of
colors defined in UI.xcu

Some logic to control the icon themes (based on fg / bg colors) of the
ColorTheme as well?

1st patch applied

Patch at https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/115042; most/all? settings for
"Text Documents" are ignored in Writer. Colors for General taken from Standard
palette for nice naming and Breeze Dark for the links (which are ignored in
Writer) https://github.com/KDE/breeze/blob/master/colors/BreezeDark.colors

It's easyhackable; feel free to amend my patch

It missed proper l10n for "Dark".

Not an advantage in my non-native ears.

Why not "Reference source text" (of course without "source")

The reference is not using quotation, don't see need for it.

So why even make the widget taller than a single row then? ... :-(

1. I would.

2. There's a second motivation, which is more visibility for the outline level
of the item.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=141026

(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #3)

The problem of @Matheod was that the normal message telling the user who has
locked the file was "nickname used on Internet". This was a user error, when
user opened a file on some system, then was attempting to open the same file on
another system (and got a legitimate warning - usually in a network
environment, this message allows one to know whom to ask to close the file),
and the specific situation was that the display was demonstrated to some other
people at that time, and user wanted to not show the nickname to those other
people. Quite a complex combination, with a simple solution: in your
LibreOffice, enter "nickname *not* used on Internet" in Options, instead of
"nickname used on Internet".

However, the idea to hide the details under a "[+] Show Details" in the dialog
looks unproblematic, and if someone wants to implement it, please do. So both
WONTFIX and EASYHACK seem appropriate to me.

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 76258] Filter by colors in Calc

2021-05-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76258

Sorry that still no mockup and clear input has been made.

Some comments on the patch:
* The color checkboxes don't get checked; there are no combination green+yellow
possible
* Color filter is not reflected in the values (tested with 1,2,3 in
green/yellow/red and expect filter=green to show 1 checked)
* Setting a value filter deletes the color filter

* Standard filter has no color option (my take would be to safe this advanced
filter for standard and keep autofilter as simple as possible)

* Exciting the dropdown somewhere else but the items is not taken as cancel
(expect nothing happens on click somewhere else but some filter is applied) and
eventually crashed the application for me

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 141747] CROSS-REFERENCE: Give warning, if you delete a target of a cross-reference

2021-05-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=141747

Okay for the reframed bug summary, except that, as I had suggested, support to
the user might be more than a mere warning. However, a warning would certainly
be a useful first step.

As for the operation of cutting a string out that contains a reference target,
presently this triggers the replacement of the references by the "Error:
Reference source not found". Normally, as soon as the string is pasted
elsewhere in the document, the references are updated. However, it is possible
that this does not always work; I have not checked for this.

For clarity's sake, it might be added that instead of cutting a numbered
paragraph out and pasting it elsewhere, you may wish to recommend the use of
the Navigator arrows "Promote/Demote chapter". However, this is practical only
under certain conditions which it would lead to far to explain here.

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 141986] Improve current LO Application Colors theme handling to support a LibreOffice "dark" color scheme mode

Not a new idea and likely requested many times. I'm all in for this additional
set of application colors. See also bug 141566 about a dark background for
Basic.

Linux works as expected and does not change the status on selection / single
click. One has to click explicitly at the checkbox to toggle it on or off.

So it's a Windows only issue.

Good idea. But I wonder what happens when you cut the target to paste it
somewhere else (guess this is the leading cause of trouble). Still show a
warning, perhaps non-interrupting as bubble/infobar?

Christian, thanks for your idea. We should avoid the word "object" here,
because objects are, shapes, charts, but not heading. So let's better talk
about target of a cross reference => I updated bug summary and hope you agree

cc: Design-Team for further input and decision.
