Re: [Libreoffice-ux-advise] Making conditional formatting dialogs more discoverable

2012-11-19 Thread Stefan Knorr
Hi Markus, Alex,

I'll implement there what the UX team defines as useful. So if you can
convince mainly Astron (as he is the one who did most of the design
and UX work at this dialog) I'll implement this.

I think that's useful, and I think we can begin putting it in the
toolbar for 4.0.

Before we do that, though...
* Alex's proposal looks like it is unprecedented in LibO UI – can you
estimate if this is a lot of work, Markus?
* Second question – do we need all five icons?
+ I'd argue we could define a default for the toolbar icon (I'd pick
colour scales, personally) and use just four icons
+ we could go even further and use just one icon (the colour scales
icon = default action icon), and don't show any icons in the menu

Alex, Markus, Mirek, what do you say?

Astron.

@Alex: Could you make 16*16 versions of your icons? (If you're not so
interested in that, could you at least mail me the large versions, so I
can scale them down?)

Hi everyone,

* Second question – do we need all five icons?
+ I'd argue we could define a default for the toolbar icon (I'd pick
colour scales, personally) and use just four icons
+ we could go even further and use just one icon (the colour scales
icon = default action icon), and don't show any icons in the menu

I added that small box with , = and to have a small visual hint that
it's conditional. I guess it could be removed, but I don't see why that
would be neccessary, since it still conveys that clicking the main part
of the button will open the color scale dialog.

I think adding icons lets one recognize the different option more
quickly and it would be consistent with the icons in menus, which are
enabled by default now.

I resized the icons: http://ubuntuone.com/06Hh9tE9x2G4CmH7jpSQAW

Strangely, they only render sharply if they're not aligned to the grid
:/

Cheers,

Alex

Hi Alexander,

I don't know how the various teams determine whether something should
be part of the default toolbar, but I think it'd be worth it.

A Mock-up: http://ubuntuone.com/02DplrrUcydYMOZ4QXr8cW

Looks good (as the features do).

Am I correct if I understand that this will be a whole new button-menu?
Currently (3.6.4 daily/master daily) I can't select Conditional
formatting or related from the default buttons, and adding it, shows as
text only.

Yes, that's the the idea

@Astron: Would you agree to add this button-menu?

Kind Regards
