Re: Alternatives for online events scenarios

2020-09-03 Thread Ramaseshan S
   Hi Jonathan,
The simplest solution I see is you have a 2core server(dedicated CPU if
you are using one of those cloud providers) and install nginx +
nginx-rtmp. Nginx RTMP lets you store recordings and play them back
using videojs in a html5 page. This should solve your problem of
streaming to a free software platform using OBS.
This link is a decent getting started.

   sing-nginx/
For publishing your recording, a good way is to take your recording and
upload to one of the peertube([2]https://joinpeertube.org/) or
   mediagolblin ([3]https://mediagoblin.org/). Both are amazing
   decentralized free software tools.
   Hope that helps.

   Hi everyone,
I belong to science divulgation group and we've been testing platforms
for online conferences. We prefer as much as possible free and privacy
respecting platforms. We tested BigBlueButton and Jitsi Meet (in
meet.jit.si) and choose Jitsi Meet as we think it's easier to use for
people and we like its UI layout more. (We believe BBB is great too,
   and
use it for other kind of events where we use the board, for example).
Up to now, we've run a couple of pilot conferences with few users
(around 20). Now, we'll start to open the invitation for everyone. I
know Jitsi Meet (and any platform) has a limit on number of people. I
think we could perfectly invite around a hundred people, but that way
we'll get to the limit of Jitsi Meet (at least in its free service). In
some forums I've read they mention around 70 people, but not everyone
   with cams.
I'm thinking on using some kind of registration form and send the
meeting link to those users a couple of hours before the time of the
event. Any recommendations for this?. I could as well just ask for a
   reply email to register.
To make the event open for everyone, I'm planning on live streaming it
with OBS. I don't want to use Youtube or Facebook live. Any
recommendations to alternatives? or maybe a custom server for that.
And the last alternative would be a platform to upload the
recordings. Is there any usable alternative to Youtube?.
I've researched in internet search engines, but I'd like to read more
   personal experiences and opinions.
   Thanks for any help.

Re: Recommendations of LMS

2020-08-06 Thread Ramaseshan S
   Hi Jonathan,
I have recently started using OpenEdX
([1]https://github.com/edx/edx-platform) and been pretty impressed with
it. OpenEdX is the same code that power edx.org . There are 2
   limitations that come with openedx
   1. It only supports ubuntu 16.04 (tough docker containers are
   available)[Not Recommended]
   2. It is quite resource heavy(Requires MySQL, Mongo, Elastic with
   python + Django)
Considering your running environment, I would recommend you
   Moodle(Moodle.org)

As I have not tried none of them, I cannot recommend none, yet there
is the list of Learning Management Systems:
   [3]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_learning_management_systems
Myself, when creating Learning Management System I would specifically
demand that computers users, learners, use a dedicated computer that
runs free operating system, and then I would prefer one local network
database, we can think of it as a school centralized database, and one
remote database for task assignments and collection of data.
Data from remote database would be transferred to centralized
   database.
I would then mostly use Emacs and various free software tools for task
assignments and collection. For example LaTeX equations could be
prepared by using TeXmacs and submitted through Emacs, not necessarily
   browsers.
There would be no exclusion of some possible tool that can help in
learning and no limitation to browser environment only.
