All of them were running Linux of one kind or another. Most had a form
of full-screen graffiti for text entry. It's coming along very fast.

RE: Problem of installing a serial mouse under win98

2001-02-03 Thread Matthew Hanson

From: "Matthew Hanson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: RE: Problem of installing a serial mouse under win98

>RIGHT... so ps2 with a splitter is not a valid solution. Anyone else know
>how to get a serial port mouse working?

I once had a problem with getting a serial mouse working on my early model
50CT. I had to go into Hardware Porfiles in System Properties in Win95 and
set up a new hardware profile. At boot, I got a DOS prompt that asked which
profile to boot. In. the new profile, I deleted the PS/2 Accupoint mouse
and added the serial mouse.

For some reason I've never managed to get the same thing set up in Win98.
It seems that even if I delete the PS/2 driver, the Accupoint mouse still
gets set up.

I did have luck at one point hitting F8 at boot with my 2nd hardware
profile, and then choosing the option for a "step by step" boot. As each
item loaded, I said 'yes', until I got to the two PS/2 drivers (I forget
their names). I just said 'no' to loading those. But my Win98
installation, as others may have experienced, has a few little bugs like
this that I've just decided too live with.

You'll need to go into your bios to see the settings but then create a
file called /etc/modutils/sound

alias char-major-14 opl3sa2
pre-install opl3sa2 modprobe "-k" "ad1848"
post-install opl3sa2 modprobe "-k" "opl3"
options opl3sa2 io=0x370 mss_io=0x530 mpu_io=0x330 irq=5 dma=0 dma2=1
options opl3 io=0x388

then run /sbin/update-modules.

That got it working for me.

Hello all,

locally.
So, could anyone possibly help me out with a much cheaper way of shipping a
port replicator over to the UK?
Any help is appreciated.

Hi fellow librettoteers!

Another of the libretto mailing list beer drinking ceremonies was held
yesterday when Christian Gennerat & I met up at the Linux Expo Paris.
We both had our linux-running librettos and posed for pictures at the
meal afterwards organised by linuxfr.org.

Unfortunately for Christian, he had to put up with my appalling French
for most of the evening.

We had a good time at the expo, but the cool toy of the moment is
definately the Compaq iPaq handheld. There were loads at the show, and
none running Windows CE. Microsoft have learned though, the
windows-powered logo is now engraved on the back. :-(

As usual, no-one could really believe that the libs were "real"

when I told them I had a 20G drive with my *entire* CD collection were
even more so.

Go into the device manager and update the drivers for the touchpad.
Change them to Standard Serial Mouse.
This worked on another (ibm) laptop with the same problem.

Just a suggestion - and if anybody asks, it wasn't me that made it, and it
wasn't any of you that listened to it, because we were all somewhere else at
the time - but if a kind soul stuffed it in a padded envelope and marked it
'repaired spare parts' on the customs form, there probably wouldn't be any
VAT to pay...OTOH you may consider 17.5% a fair price for the box!

no names, no pack drill!
