RE: Problem of installing a serial mouse under win98
Date: Sat, 03 Feb 2001 17:57:24 - From: "Matthew Hanson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: Problem of installing a serial mouse under win98 >RIGHT... so ps2 with a splitter is not a valid solution. Anyone else know >how to get a serial port mouse working? I once had a problem with getting a serial mouse working on my early model 50CT. I had to go into Hardware Porfiles in System Properties in Win95 and set up a new hardware profile. At boot, I got a DOS prompt that asked which profile to boot. In. the new profile, I deleted the PS/2 Accupoint mouse and added the serial mouse. For some reason I've never managed to get the same thing set up in Win98. It seems that even if I delete the PS/2 driver, the Accupoint mouse still gets set up. I did have luck at one point hitting F8 at boot with my 2nd hardware profile, and then choosing the option for a "step by step" boot. As each item loaded, I said 'yes', until I got to the two PS/2 drivers (I forget their names). I just said 'no' to loading those. But my Win98 installation, as others may have experienced, has a few little bugs like this that I've just decided too live with. You'll need to go into your bios to see the settings but then create a file called /etc/modutils/sound alias char-major-14 opl3sa2 pre-install opl3sa2 modprobe "-k" "ad1848" post-install opl3sa2 modprobe "-k" "opl3" options opl3sa2 io=0x370 mss_io=0x530 mpu_io=0x330 irq=5 dma=0 dma2=1 options opl3 io=0x388 then run /sbin/update-modules.
