I think it has to be 640*480 on the 50 to get 24-bit colour. The TFT display can't handle that without contouring but an external monitor is fine. You may need to enable this in the bios - there's a setting in there which restricts the video modes...never quite worked out why! When I go to the control panel for display settings, it says 16 colors 640X480 pixels. So I change it to 256 colors, restart, and on startup I get a warning that "there is a problem with your display settings...they don't work with your hardware." So it resets to 16 colors. The same happens with the "high color 16 bit" mode. When I go to the adorable libretto site, it says that all the displays are 16 colors. What is the key to press on startup to enter BIOS? Win95 ships with one that is not very good for this machine, the updated/correct one shipped with the unit on a seperate floppy. I'd check that first. The driver should be named after a very specific chip (like CT65554 or such), not SVGA, VGA, or other. It sounds like it is just on Standard VGA windows drivers. Yeah, that would be the problem. If you're using win 95 you'll have to download the drivers from the web. But if you're using '98, the drivers should come with '98.
