Hi David,

Thanks, that it sort of what I was hoping. My current 100CT has 64MB and
a 20GB disk with SuSE Linux, so I probably wouldn't need to buy anything
else for the 110CT unless I wanted my current machine to operate as a
fully functional backup, although that would be nice.

Speed is not such a big problem for me because my desktop machine
is only a 66Mhz 486 with 48MB, but under BSD Unix that works just
fine, even with several people logged in at once. The only
time I am really conscious of the limited performance is when I run
somthing that does computationally demanding crytographic calculations
such as generating keys for ssh. When I want some real processing power,
I turn on my 100CT :-)

But a little extra speed would be nice, so if a 110CT is essentially
just a faster equivalent, it sounds like it would make sense to look
at going that way.

DigbyT

[LIB] USB2 PC Card in L100CT

2003-03-03 Thread RSchw74573
Date: Mon, 3 Mar 2003 12:08:58 EST
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: USB2 PC Card in L100CT

Hi all,

A brief report - just installed a Belkin USB2 PCMCIA card (model F5U222) in
my L100 running W98se. The install went smoothly, and had to be run twice,
once for each slot. The install software required a look at a .cab file, so
it'd be good to have the W98 .cab files on your HD.

Note that the card's documentation says that W98se (minimum) is required, and
that W98 upgraded to 98se is not sufficient. Of course, it also says that a
PII-266 is the minimum CPU, but all is golden with the L100's P166mmx.

To answer my own question posed earlier, this card's need for external power
is dependent upon the USB device to be connected. Only devices that draw
lots of juice require the external power. My Olympus C-4000 digicam
fortunately is not one of those, so photo downloads can be accomplished w/o
nearby AC power or hauling around a power brick.

I don't have any USB2 devices, so cannot report on those, but the camera
works so I'm happy.

Lee

Subject: 100CT vs 110CT
Does anyone happen to know of the top of their heads if there
is any difference between the Libretto 100CT and the 110CT other
than going from 166MHz to 266Mhz?
I was just contemplating getting a space for my 100CT, and wondered
if a 110CT would be a better buy - which it probably would if it
were just faster but still software interchangeable.
(I like my machines to run cool, so I am not keen on overclocking...)

Regards,
DigbyT

Don't have a 110, but I believe it has only one PC card slot. I think
the BIOS is the same. I've successfully OC'd my 100 to 266 and it
doesn't feel any hotter, but it did shut down once while doing a
complete virus scan sitting on a pillow. I also think the 110 is
limited to 8.45mm drives, as opposed to 9.5 for the 100.

Okay... this post of yours answered all but my question about whether you
have a floppy drive. Seems like you're got people's attention!

the notebook with the new one the TFT Display was extremly Bright!!, The screen turns
almost white because of the brightness. My question: Is there a solution to my
problem ?? Had, the new TFT Display I bought, a failure ??

Re: [LIB] L1 Scrub -- 3rd Way ;-)

I was once in the same position -- there is another way, but probably just
as many problems, and that is to make up a DOS boot floppy with drivers for
a pcmcia network card then copy the XP distribution from another system.
However you will need:

1. A network card that comes with DOS drivers (not so common these days)
2. A network, either at home or work, that you can log into with the disk
3. Bizarre and arcane knowledge of DOS startup files and memory management.
4. DOS pcmcia socket services and knowledge of their use.

Its too long-winded to go into here, however I will happily email my floppy
disk contents, all you'd need to do then is replace my netcard drivers
(Xircom 10M CE II PS) with yours, and tweak the config files. To my
surprise, the disk I made for my old ThinkPad worked straight away in my
Libretto (which I have back, hurrah, long story for another time perhaps),
and a colleague's Portege, as long as the card was in the correct slot. So
although it was a bit of a slog making the disk, its paid back very well.

HTH, feel free to email me off list for long and involved instructions :)
