Subject: Help on Windows configuration files - Lib 110

I do not write often to this list, but I read most of the messages. And I
need now some help.
I recently have changed the 4.3G HD by a 20G HD in my Lib 110 (64M RAM,
WIN98SE). Windows, all the Lib drivers and my programs were installed from
scratch. The problem I'm having is that the Lib is very slow. (very, very,
very). As an exemple, it spends around 1,5 minutes to open/change a Window
Explorer window. I am not an expert in configuring Windows, but I think that
the configuration files could be changed for improvements, mainly in memory
management. An indication that something is wrong in those files can be
that, when booting with an IBM Microdrive inserted in the PCMCIA slot, I get
a STACK OVERFLOW error message, and the boot stops. No trouble when
inserting the microdrive after the boot is completed.

The current configuration files ara attached.

Thanks in advance for any help and a great Christmas and New Year for you
all
Lazar Krym

As soon as the system has booted, go to 'Start Menu | Settings | Control
Panel' and the 'Performance' tab and check 'System Resources'. Anyting
90% is good. I can even tolerate mid-80%s depending.

You may have a bunch of apps starting. Is there a bunch of icons sitting in
the system tray at the right end of the taskbar by any chance? Go 'Start
Menu | Run' and type in 'msconfig', hit Enter, and go to the 'Startup' tab
to turn off everything you can. Only 'Exporer' is needed, but you'll want
'systray' too. You can go back and re-enable anything you may want.

Otherwise

Heh yeah... Dan turned that off last year when viruses start popping up
in attachments.
