Since you have the touch screen L50M, I don't believe they have anything but
Windows 95/98 drivers available.

In any case, with Windows 95/98/DOS, you will need to run EZ-Drive or a
similar
drive manager program (safe, works).

Assuming it has the same hibernation problem with 8GB HDs as the other
Librettos (L20-L110), then you'll need to create one primary, active
bootable
OS partition from the beginning of the HD up to just before the 8GB boundary
(where the Libretto typically saves its hibernation data). You will leave a

Has anyone tried the Card Bus slot swap ? is it really possible ?

I don't think it exists. You can use a Parallel-USB Cable.

http://www.mcpb.com/html/usb.parll.cbl.html

The think the main point of the USB adapters is for laptops with USB 1.0 to
be able to use all the new highspeed stuff being made with the USB 2.0
standard. External drives, Scanners, Cameras, Network Adapters ect.

Warner,
The first link says that it would be ineconomical to build such device coz
card bus uses standard PCI chip
that second link I think is the other way around, that device provides
access to PCMCIA through USB Ports.
I am also unable to find the link for the CF - USB.

so I guess there's no way to teach this old dog a new trick..

I've been told of a 16-bit CF USB card for PDAs, but googling just now
I can't find it. Why? This may have an explaination:

 http://lists.debian.org/debian-laptop/2004/01/msg00427.html

Oh, wait, there does appear to be one:

: Has anyone tried the Card Bus slot swap ? is it really possible ?

I don't think this has been tried, nor do I think it would be easy. I
don't know if there's even a PCI bus in the L50 and as such there's no
place to attach the CardBus bridge necessary for the cardbus slot.
Even if there was, one would need to bring the pci bus to some place
that it could be used for the chip, which is very hard for all but
professional EE folks (and even then, there are likely difficult
 electrical issues to deal with).

[LIB] 16 Bit PC Card USB

Hi all,

I am looking for a 16 bit PC-Card to USB device, but the same seems to be
rare as most are 32 bit cardbus. My L50M doesnot support cardbus and will
only accept 16Bit PC-Card.

I have tried to search on the net but unable to find for the same, please
kindly share some reference on where to find such item.

Thanks and regards

If anyone knows of a link to the 100CT maintenance manual, I would really

Re: [LIB] Got my Libretto 50 Today

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Re: [LIB] Got my Libretto 50 Today

Hi Ray,

Nope, just lift it carefully. Those 2 tabs are spring loaded.

Ok. I thought so, but I just wanted to make sure.

The PCMCIA slots on the laptop are NOT cardbus. Easy way to tell ...
if the top of the connector end has a gold colored
strip with a row of 8 'bumps' on it, it's Cardbus. Also, if you look at the
connector end, both Cardbus and 16 bit cards have 2 ledges on the left and
1 on the right however the height of the right hand ledge on a 16 bit card
is the same width as that on the left whilst on Cardbus its twice as high.
Thats why you can't fit a Cardbus card into a 16 bit slot. For instance:
16 bit:
  _ _
|__ o o / / o o |
 __| o o / / o o |__
|/ /| --- Same height on both sides.

Cardbus:
_.___ __.__ --- Bumps on the top of the connector.
|__ o o / / o o |__
  __| o o / / o o|
|/ /| --- Double height on the right.

Actually, Ray, I don't think all of that is true. I have two pcmcia modems.
The first one is an Action Tec model, fairly new, CardBus Compat. There are
no bumps on the top of this card.

The second one is a psion gold card, quite a bit older, non-cardbus. The
conector on this one is EXACTLY the same as the one on my cardbus model.
There is no difference in the connectors. Both will fit in the libretto
slot.

Anyway, The Psion one works great in this Libretto!!! I am using it to send
you this message. I do find typing hard to do on the libretto keyboard; I
hope I can get used to it in time.

3. How do I adjust the screen brightness?

The only screen brightness adjustments are through software (the 'hairy
lightbulb' that appears when you install the Toshiba power management
tools
for instance). See the archives for other discussions about alternative
programs (eg. under Linux).

Ok. I found that, thanks.

Thanks for all of the help!
James
