Anyone selling an HDD ...

I've still got the original 1.6Gb drive and I'm thinking about getting a larger one. There seem to be a lot of people that have upgraded their HDD so I wondered if there were any old ones for sale. I don't need masses of space; something around 6Gb would be ideal. I'm based in Swindon in the UK, and I don't think offers from abroad would prove economical !!! Thanks, Jim Hudd. I've had no problems at all using a parallel cable between my Win98 desktop and my Win95 (now Win98) Lib70. I constantly swap which machine is host and guest depending on what I'm doing. Um. If you've tried DCC and that didn't work (did you use a 'laplink' type parallel cable? They swap certain pins over to make it work, a straight pin-pin cable doesn't work)...how about DCC with a serial cable - but it will be sloow. IIRC win95 should respond to DCC though you'll have to make the lib end the client - it's so many years since I tried this: There's a pretty good looking page at http://www.tecno.demon.co.uk/dcc/dcc.html which has some tips for getting things running - I think the easiest way is to run Interlnk on the lib and intersvr on the windows machine in dos mode - provided it can see the cdrom in dos mode, you should be able to copy it. I don't recall the original status - IIRC you have no network, no floppy, but you do have a cdrom...do you have a cdrom writer on your desktop machine? (I'm heading into unexplored territory here...)? I think the difference between a floppy boot and the default boot is in the original boot loader - if you start it from a hard disk it doesn't respond to 'text' as one of the boot options, maybe you could hack that? Alternatively, if you can source an adapter IDE-2.5 that will let you do the installation on the desktop machine. All the drivers will be wrong, so you'll have to let harddrake throw them all away after you load, and make sure you have the RPMs available on the same disk (I dual boot W95 and linux, with a copy of the installation disk on the windows partition so I can see it from linux), and you probably don't want to be running kde2, but fvwm is quick and reasonably useful... I make a habit of keeping the BIOS of all my PC's up to date. The manufacturers don't always include all the bug fixes/update information in the readme files for the updates so they often fix/enhance more than they say they will. To be honest there is probably no real reason to upgrade. If I remember rightly the 6.40 upgrade fixes a problem with certain boot floppies clearing the BIOS password. If you do upgrade you may not be able to go back. I tried it as a potential cure for my hibernate problem but all that happened was my C drive was no longer recognised as a system disk. Going back to 6.40 thankfully cured it. I think that the conversion of the drive to FAT32 was what caused the problem tho'.
