The guy at this web site sent me a battery for my digital camera on approval (which he didn't have to do) complete with an international pre-paid label to send it back. Within ten minutes of me telling him via email that the battery didn't fit he sent a second battery to try out. He might send out the wrong battery; he might have the wrong description on his web site; he's only human like the rest of us (unlike certain bots I could describe). But I'm damn sure I've never seen a company that includes a pre-paid label to send the product back FOC if its wrong from anywhere on the planet... (yet). I've installed Professional and turned off all the crap I don't want running, but haven't done anything more complex than that. At this very moment, I have a dial-up connection to the Internet, and an SSH client (putty) connected to my Linux server. I'm using about 5% of the CPU, and 50 MB of RAM. Not an efficient operating system, but perfectly usable for the sorts of things I do -- and a >hell< of a lot more stable than Win98. I would happily upgrade my L1100 to Win2k as well, but haven't been able to find drivers for the Smart Media slot which I use all the time, alas. Date: Mon, 12 Nov 2001 17:03:32 - From: "Jon C" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [LIB] Stuffed a 20Gb drive in my 110CT Fubar, Yep. If Win2000 wasn't running, the Libby would "hardware hibernate" as normal. As I found out today, Win2000 doesn't always gets the chance to hibernate... What happened was I set up Win2000 to hibernate when the battery power hit 1%. (Silly me!) However my 110CT decided to hibernate via hardware before Win2000 had a chance... So it is possible to have a hardware (i.e. Libby) hibernate in Win2000 but only when the user is silly enough to set the power-off-when-battery-is-dead option to a silly value... But as I left a 100mb empty partition at the end of the "normal" 8Gb limit, the remainder of the drive was fine after I stuffed my Libby in the mains. Win2000 wasn't too happy however.. :o) Jon C - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Libretto Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 4:33 PM Subject: Re: [LIB] Stuffed a 20Gb drive in my 110CT Date: Mon, 12 Nov 2001 23:19:16 +0700 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [LIB] Stuffed a 20Gb drive in my 110CT >> 20Gb drive is working fine - formatted the drive in the Libby in DOS mode >> (as Fubar suggested below) and left 100mb between where that ended >> and the reminder of the drive. As Micro$oft say: "Note that the power policy > manager has a hard-coded policy to initiate a CriticalShutdownOff > whenever any thermal zone indicates a critical thermal condition." Interesting! In fact, fascinating!! I find that's often the case - something grabs my interest, and then - slowly - it dawns on me just how far out of my depth I really am, and this realisation warrants an immediate upgrade to "fascinating" status :-) So, let me get this right. If it overheated while Win'2K was up and running, no problem. But in the event (maybe very unlikely event - but maybe...) that for whatever reason, Win'2K was not up and running, it'd trash the area at 8.~Gb? ** http://libretto.basiclink.com%20-%20Libretto%20mailing%20list http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive%20-%20Archives http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html%20-%20FAQ ---TO UNSUBSCRIBE--- Reply to any of the list messages. Just found a guy at work here using a L50 with Windows 2000 installed, and he demonstrated using Powerpoint 2000 and IE 5.01 running whilst the Libby was on a LAN. It wasn't lightning quick but it wasn't sluggish either. His Libby 50 has 32mb, standard 810mb HD and is not overclocked. Seeing that yesterday made me upgrade Win98SE to Win2000 on my L110 yesterday evening. I'm surprised and rather impressed that Win2000 on a P233Mhz, 64Mb Libby works well - hibernate & suspend work EVERY time - Office 2000 (yuk) works faster (can it getting any slower?!) and everything apart from the Freecom CDROM drive updated fine... > Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2001 10:33:39 - > From: "Keith" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [LIB] MSIE 5.0 and up with W98 on L70? > > Matt, > > >Is that one of the earlier v5.1x versions, or one of the later 5.5x > >versions? > > IE 5.00.2614.3500CO on Win 98 4.10. Re: Portege to accompany Libretto.
Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2001 20:03:02 +0100 From: "Jon C" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Portege to accompany Libretto. Mike I've had three hi-cap 100/110CT batteries on back-order for three weeks now - it appears Toshiba either don't have many of these batteries in the UK - or don't want to sell many of them!!! Jon C - Original Message - From: Michael Heathcote To: Libretto Sent: Sunday, September 16, 2001 7:58 PM Subject: Portege to accompany Libretto. Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2001 19:52:11 +0100 From: "Michael Heathcote" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Portege to accompany Libretto. Dear Listers, For those in the UK, PCWorld are selling off the top model Portege 3490CT for less than 1200 pounds, a few weeks ago they where 2000 pounds ! I could not resist at that price and bought one this afternoon. The nearest form factor to my 50CT, weight, if not footprint (B5). However 700Hz PIII,128MB Ram(256max), 20GB, 8MB graphics. My 50CT has been my only computer for over 3 years, the lack of USB and the 640 x 480 resolution just too limiting for my only everyday PC. However I will not be packing away the Libretto just yet, it will now spend more time in my car linked to my etrex GPS, playing MP3's, and used with my Siemens SL45 mobile phone via IR for remote e-mail access on the road (while stationary !). Back to the Portege, as Toshiba UK are selling half price Portege batteries as well as Libretto 100/110 batteries, I will be buying a few. Are lithium ion batteries better used in cycle, or are they okay to be kept in storage for the 'future' ? Cheers, Mike. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
