The only company that seems to be offering the HiCap 1x0CT battery at the reduced
price is MicroWarehouse.co.uk, and they don't have any stock at the moment. I've
ordered 3, they say the batteries be available in 7-10 days time

Hands up who wants some? (Remember the ones I've ordered are on back order - there's

 Hello to everybody,

I came across with this mailing list due to a problem I was trying
to
solve. I´ve a 100CT Libretto and recently upgraded to Windows 98.
As soon as I installed it a new problem came up: the hibernation
stopped working properly, I mean, every time I try to resume the
Libretto hangs. I try to use the Ctrl+Alt+Del several times and
finally
I get the Task Menu indicating me: Msgsrv32 (Not Responding), after
I close that program, I can use the Libretto without problems.

Has anybody had this or a similar problem? I´d be very grateful for
 whom would help me.

 Thanks in advance.

 Regards,

 Ibon.

Hay guys this is a 3Com feature. The idea being you can install in slot 1
for work
and then install in slot 2 for home, or a second work location. The 3Com
software
treats each slot as if it was a diffrent card. Thus you can have DHCP
enable or disabled
and/or you could have TCIP or netbios enabled or disabled per slot.

Hey Guys,
I found a great little backup device. Its called
Pocket Zip drive. Its plugs into the Toshiba Librettos
PCMCIA slot and it has little disks that you insert
into it. The little disks are about the size of a
Australian 50 cent coin and they hold 40 megabytes.
Take a look at it at www.iomega.com

I also hear that Toshiba have released a 2 GB PCMCIA
hard disk drive. They should also be great.

Hey Jason,

Sorry to tell you this now but hidden (!) away on Microsoft's web site (at
least before ME was dropped onto the market) was a page selling a Win98 to
Win98SE update CD, all for the knock-down price of £15 ($20ish).

I found it by accident and damn if I can find it again!

yes, my 20 gig toshiba HD makes quick scratchy noises too.
Its movements must be 5X more precise than a 4gig, assuming the same # of
platters. It may be spinning faster as well.

I kind of like the noises.

Wish I had done win98 SE instead of 98 version 1, what a pain. I now have
the 98SE full install but we all know it won't let me use the full version
to update unless I go through renaming and removing key files. F_microsoft.
How many millions of people are they screwing over to get them to shell out
another $100 for the 98SE update disk? Certainly they COULD have allowed the
full SE version to update version 1. $200 for OS and $500 for Office? Maybe
that's why the economy is stalling, Microsoft has all the money. I've
started to use StarOffice (FREE at Sun's site, and impressive. Saves and
opens .DOC and .XLS formats, and very similar to office) and plan on trying
out a dual boot with Linux.

I finally got around to formatting and installing W98se on
my 20gb drive. The only driver I needed to upgrade was
the video.

After turning off the soundcard, I noticed that the drive
seems to make lots of noises every time I access something
on the drive, or do anything with the mouse. It is a Toshiba
drive.

It's seems like a quick scratching noise of some kind.

Does anyone else's Toshiba 20gb drive make weird
sounds when running programs or accessing stuff on it??

The 4.1gb drive is very quiet... so am wondering.

TIA,
Karen

Ok.

PA2504U is the adaptor which converts the 50CT battery connector of the =

PA2504U - is this the power cord from the 2499U battery charger =

Hi Karen

I got the hibernation/suspend to work fine on my 110CT - even with IR
monitor active and limited network support. I admit it was after a clean
install of Tosh's Win98, followed by the Win98se update CD...

I found this little piece of info:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q187/2/85.ASP
which suggests the default 110CT display driver doesn't work well in Win98.
I found a driver called l100vid8.exe on either Tosh US or Canada sites which
replaced it.

Also I found a shutdown supplement program for Win98se on Microsoft's
support site (not sure of the URL, but I've got the file if you want it)
called 4756us8.exe.

Also I found that if I bound NETBEUI to my network adapter the 110CT would
only hibernate / suspend once, then lock up on the second try with a black
screen.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Arnold, for your help. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

After searching and reading in the support section of Toshiba's site,
I discovered that the hibernation feature still has not been enabled to
 work in W98se.

You'd think after all this time, there would be a driver or something
from them for this. So all my questions on hibernating with my 20gb
 drive are unnecessary. Bummer :-/

Oh well, I'm glad anyway to have another Libby, and be back amoung
 this fine group :-)

Altho, I'd still appreciate knowing a good version of Red Hat that will
work on my 100 without having to be tweaked to death.

and here are the steps I used.

  1. Installed it and partioned it using dos 6.22, set up three partions
and
  only used 7.5 gigs.

  2. I installed my pcmcia cd drive and copied the Windows 98se cab files
in
  the second partion.

  3. From that partion I did a clean installed of Windows 98se, using my
Windows 3.1 floppies when asked for the location of Windows for the
upgrade.

  4. I then installed Partion Magic and made the boot disks.

  5. I then repartioned, in dos, the full 12 gigs using the Partion Magic

Everything seems to be working fine. I assume this procedure should work
on

Hibernate suspend on Win98SE

2001-03-22 Thread Jon Crawford

Date: Thu, 22 Mar 2001 19:44:46 -
From: "Jon Crawford" [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Hibernate suspend on Win98SE

Hi

I've been attempting to get my 110CT (UK model, 64Mb, 4.3Gb HD, etc) to
hibernate and suspend correctly in Win98SE. After three fresh installs of
Toshiba's product recovery CD (stop laughing you Linux people) I've managed
to get it to work. First thing I installed Win98 from the product recovery
CD, then installed the Win98SE update CD. Still didn't work. Then I found
this on the Micro$oft support site:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q187/2/85.ASP

This basically says "This behavior (suspend not working) can occur if you
are using a NeoMagic 128XD video driver. This video driver is not supported
in Windows 98."
I found that the driver supplied on the Win98 product recovery CD is FAULTY.
I didn't have much luck with the display driver from Toshiba Canada either,
nor the one on the Win98SE CD. The Toshiba USA one appeared to work better
with suspend / resume / hibernation.

Then I found on Micro$ofts site a file called "4756us8.exe". This appears
to be the "Windows 98SE ACPI update". After installing the new display
driver, then installing this fix, my 110CT now suspends and resumes and
hibernates and whatever else it can do with the IR monitor working, a
network card installed, a 56k modem, both docked and undocked, etc, etc.
Basically, it works.

I bet someone will say something different about what drivers I found that
worked for my Libby but hey thats life...

Nah Neil, easier way than that.

Create a boot disk complete with autoexec.bat config.sys to include your
cd driver and MSCDEX.. Copy boot disk to C: making sure all drivers are on
the C drive and config.sys autoexec.bat point at the drivers on the C:
drive.

works for me.

 Off topic but:

My venerable 266 pentium which has spent the last two years overclocked
finally gave up the ghost today, causing me to invest in a new motherboard
 and processor.

Windows95 of course is unable to see the cd drive, although it's there in
the bios. The drivers to allow it to see it are - yes - on the CD. Bugger.

The cure? wake it up in linux, copy the CD to a hard drive, install from
there. Good to see the boys at MS really thought that one through!

 Cheers,

 Neil

 My suggestion...

Use partition magic to create an additional drive on the same drive you
want to ghost (IE split c int c and d)

Then boot into dos via floppy, run ghost.exe from a floppy, and ghost
from
your c drive to your d drive.

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE EASIEST and FASTEST.

Then, you can just leave your image on the D drive to be used later, or
copy it off to a CD, or a network drive.

Dave,

If I remember rightly, I installed Nokia Data Suite V1.2 using a DAU-9P (or
is it 6P?!) cable to connect the phone to the Lib (which was a 50CT running
Win95b) whilst installing. Then you need to link the Data Suite com port to
the virtual comm port used by IR.
It took me a number of times to get that to work.

Since then I've got a 110CT, running Win98SE and directly seeing a Nokia
7110.

With the 61xx phone I had to buy the software to allow me to link Lib

I gather from this that you have been using a Nokia 61xx over IR with a
Lib

I'd be very interested in how you managed it as all of my attempts to do
it
have failed, and Ive found lots of info telling me that you just cant do
it,
so I'd love to know before I go and invest in a new 6210 for the
purpose...

Hey Chris,

The 7110 (as far as I know) connects via a software modem installed as a
driver on the PC. As for the network, I'm with Cellnet and basically all
their new monthly tariffs include data calls as part of their inclusive
minutes. And no, having 4 lines open doesn't mean 4 times the cost!

I'm curious what others on the group are using?

The idea of being able to use the IR port as a link between the

modem/network card that is suppose to be mobile ready

I'm leaning towards a digitial phone but could change my mind if
there are advantages with the analog.

Is the Iomega microdrive really a IBM rebadged jobby?
340mb is a load more than 40mb, and as I've got a load of devices that
use
Compact Flash already (digital camera, Psion series 5, Libby(!)) I
wondered
about getting one of those instead...

  What do you think?

The Iomega microdrive is really an IBM rebadged. IBM makes 512MB and 1GB
capacities now as well. If you buy the right bundle, the microdrive comes
with a PCMCIA-CF adapter so that it works in your Libretto.

I have taken my 512MB microdrive out of my camera and put it in my
Libretto
 and it works just fine.

Beware, though, that not all CF-equipped cameras can use the Microdrive.
First, the microdrive is CF+ Type II (whatever that means) and can't
physically fit in CF type I slots.

Secondly, even some cameras that have Type II slots don't work with the
Microdrive. Check with your manufacturer before buying, or read a review
on good digital camera web site like http://www.dpreview.com or
 http://www.dcresource.com.

 Hmmm...

Barnacle is out of the country (though *without* autorespond) across the
 christmas period.

 Barnacle works for the Beeb.

 BBC christmas schedules are crap.

Is there a connection there? Cause or effect? i think we should be told!

Pray tell, what size is ? Is it what we call N in the States? N is
the same diameter as AAA, but 1/2 the length.

It's even thinner than AAA, and just as long.

Damifino why we need all these wierd shapes of batteries and battery
packs.

Just a quick note:

I found Dabs (www.dabs.com) in the UK selling PA2503U Hi-Cap batteries for 110 / 100
Librettos at £65 each.

Oh, and I could store David's CD on my PC - I've got a 12x CD writer and 1.6Tb of disk
storage available

Windows 98SE Shutdown Supplement...

From: "Jon Crawford" [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Windows 98SE Shutdown Supplement...

I know some of you folks have been having problems with Win98SE suspending with cards
in a PCMCIA slot. I've installed the following Shutdown Supplement and its made a big
difference!

http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUFeatured/Win98SE/Default.asp

Basically I can now shutdown with a compact flash card (within its PCMCIA card of
course!) with no problems, and then resume after a few hours without Win98SE hanging.
Its also appears to have solved my non-working mouse after resume, and my USB problems
too.

'Tis a long hot summer, even in California and Merry old London. Cabin

gets to the best of them. You have supplied a therapeutic outlet for their
pent up frustrations. Send them all a bill.

As for me I chose to paint my Lib BBC gray. It is a perfect match with the
Toshiba gray. WOW, I scare myself when my brain works like that.

No second opinions as to my brain action please. I am quite satisfied with
my
own. Thank you very much. When I am right, I am right and I know it. The
Titanic was unsinkable, just as we said, it was highjacked to Ireland and
is
disguised as a floating Pub. The sinking was a cover story by the
 perpetrators.

BTW, Has anyone else noticed that the Brits don't know how to spell
"colored"? Or is this an other case like "tyre" for tire. As Neil and Pres
have both quoted "two people separated by a common tongue" or is that
 "toungoue"
