Yes, there is an enhanced port replicator for the 100/110, and it does have
USB. Don't know if it runs with win98. It also has 2 pcmcia slots.

btw, can an enchance replictor port be installed on lib 100ct? does this
port have USB? will the USB work on libretto 100ct with win98 2nd ed

Have not tried to install Solaris x86 on mine. Currently I'm running Openbsd
(installed over the net). Works awsome. I'd recommend a BSD O/S for the
libby as they are supported very well. Linux is a good choice as well.

When installing Solaris, are you booting off of the floppy, and trying to
install from CD?

can you give me some tips??

The only way I haven't tried is a network installation, I think
that the only way with the Libretto (I have the 110 with 64mb)?

Is anyone running solid state disk on a libretto?

With Sandisk coming out with a 1Gig compactflash card next year, and
compactflash - 2.5 IDE Adapters available, it seems like I could run
 with no
moving parts. Sounds tempting. Then I could keep the libby in the
 truck and
it wouldn't mind the cold in Colorado ( i think ).

While 1G is not a lot of disk space, being conservative (running

 could live with that.

Plus, the bonus of it being faster wouldn't hurt.

Perhaps ... I think those batteries have 2 fuses in them (one is thermal and looks

OK, next question. What are peoples experience with opening up these

[LIB] Battery problem

From: Tom Dixon [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Battery problem

My Hi-capacity battery from laptopsforless.com for my 100CT appears to be
dead. When the power cord is plugged in, the battery light does not light up.
Machine won't boot, etc...

The battery was bought new about 4 months ago, and has not been used much.

What I think the problem might be:
My libby does not always boot when I turn on the power. I have to remove
the battery, reinsert, and turn on again, and then I see the bios screen,
etc.. and it boots.

Last time this happened, I pulled the battery WHILE the power cord was still
attached to the unit.

Could this have zapped the battery, or blown a fuse on that battery? My other
battery works fine in the unit.

Any help would be appreciated.

 Hi All,

I have recently acquired a secondhand Libretto 110CT. The original HDD was not
working so I have replaced it. The machine has been working fine for a week or so
since then, as I have played about with installing an OS.

Yesterday I installed Win95 and was in the middle of upgrading drivers when the Lib
shut down of its own accord. It wouldn't restart immediately, so I left it for an
hour or so to cool down, suspecting that it might have overheated (it had been on AC
power for a couple of hours and was quite warm to the touch). After this it
restarted OK, but then shut down after a few minutes. This happened a couple of
times, and now it won't start at all.

The green power LED is on, and the battery charges, so the AC adaptor seems OK. I
have tried turning on with backspace held down, and I left it unplugged and with the
battery removed overnight, but still no luck this morning.

Anyone have any ideas about what I could try next? Or alternatively recommend a
repairer in the UK (do Toshiba still repair these?)

 TIA

100 lockup problem

2001-08-29 Thread Tom Dixon

Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2001 12:06:56 -0600 (MDT)
From: Tom Dixon [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: 100 lockup problem

I have been having increasing problems with my 100ct. It's 64m, 4gig drive,
_not_ overclocked.

It locks up after about 10 minutes of use. The screen freezes, and you can
not type or move the mouse. All you can do (that I have found so far) is to
power it off and restart.

Often when it attempts to restart, it does not see the hard drive. It dosen't
error, it just tries to boot off the floppy, and never appears to try the hard
drive.

Also, when it is cold, and I power it up, the On and Disk lights come on,
but the screen never gets power, and it never boots. I have to remove the
battery to get it to shut off, and put the battery back, and boot. It
_always_ boots on the 2nd try when cold.

Are these symptoms of a HD controller failure, or over heating? Has anyone
seen this before? Do I have multiple problems?

What are my options? Is there a good dealer/repair shop? Or should I just
scrap it and buy another? I _don't_ want to scrap it if possible as I don't
have $ or time to get another.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long message.

 Hio,

Sorry to read about the problems with ur Libby.

What I would suggest, is to run a benchmark program that tests everything
 that is in your Libby.
That gave me always some clue what was wrong with a system.
Classic programs are Check-It (I can get u a copy of it) and the Norton
 Suite of Utilities.

If it's a thermal problem (some bad soldered link that has extra resistance,
which will increase at higher temperature) then it's a hopeless situation, I
 guess.

 Keep on hoping..

powerup problem

2001-08-08 Thread Tom Dixon

From: Tom Dixon [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: powerup problem

I have a 100, and just recently it started having issues starting up.

When I first turn it on, 80% of the time the lights flash, but I never get any
screen, nor does it ever hit the disk. I pull the battery, put it back, and
turn it on again, and it's fine. It's never failied to boot on the 2nd try.

It is very frustrating when it happens after saving to disk, and switching to
a new battery, cause it messes up the restore, and I have to boot and fsck
everything (running openbsd).

Any help would be, well, helpful.

Re: Case for 110CT

I bought a small Tenba from micsol.com for about $20 that is OK. One big
zippered pocket that holds my 100, spare battery, and AC adapter. It could
hold a floppy too. Measures about 9-1/2 X 8 X 1-1/2 and is soft with a little
handle.

 Hello all,

I recently acquired a nice 110CT via eBay and am wondering what sort of case(s)
you would recommend. I have checked out 3 Targus cases (CH400, CH600, NWCCL00)
and the Case Logic PDC 1 at their respective websites. Any thoughts on these?
One thing about these items is that they don't appear to have the padding
that's quite common with normal notebook cases. And, if one wants to also take
along the AC adapter and PCMIA floppy drive, any opinions on what sort of case
would work? I know I could just get a regular size notebook case and have room
for everything, but if there's something out there that would be just large
enough for the 110, AC and floppy drive, that would be better.

 Thanks,
 Martin

I want to install linux on my Libretto 110CT
 I have some question:

 1/ which distribution is best

Talk about opening up a can of worms there

SUSE, RedHat, Mandrake, Slackware, Debian are all good (all have bad points too...)

For ease of installation and overall support on the net, RedHat is an obvious choice.

2/ driver for the 800*480 monitor
2 bis/ selection external internal monitor
3/ USB port? can we use it?
 4/ pcmcia interface, same question?

 thanx

I have a 100ct with a bad hi-cap battery.

Is there a way to replace the individual batteries in the pack?

Any links to battery stuff would be real helpful. Thanks.
