Do any of you rich people who own both an 100/110 and a L1/2/3 Libby can tell me (or better still send me a photo) what the difference in size there is between the older and newer Libretto's? my site below for full dimensions on both. But basically, in real life, it's like this. Pull out the L110 and you go Gosh, that's a really small laptop! It looks like it's been miniaturized! And basically it's just a touch wider than a standard VHS cassettte case. It's overall thickness when closed vs. the other dimenesions make it look like a thin hardback book when carried. The L series is like Gosh! They got rid of the palm rest on a regular lightweight notebook! The styling is more curved, so it's easier on the eyes and hands, but otherwise, it's a big baby. More like putting your hands on a thin notebook that doesn't have a built-in CD drive and no palm rest area. Keyboard is regular laptop size, so it's a whole lot easier to use than the L110's, and less fatiguing with the wider, bigger screen to view things. But for sure, even when closed, it isn't going to be called a toy or a miniaturezed notebook. Instead, it's a regular one that's a bit like carrying about a thin paper notebook binder, but curved so it feels nice. For sure, even bigger than the Sony Picturebooks, so it ain't tiny width or depth wise. Also just how faster is the L1/2/3 over, say an L110? (assuming L110 has 64mb and L1/2/3 has 256mb..) A lot. The Crusoe isn't going to kill any Pentiums for lunch, so don't go thinking it'll replace a 600Mhz PIII desktop and run any faster. However, anything nowadays is faster than the 233Mhz L110. Usually, cut the Crusoe's CPU speed by half, and that'll be the equivalent Pentium speed, so the L series is running around the 500Mhz range vs. the 233 for the L110. The L will be faster still because it has faster RAM and ultra-dma HD support, so it's snappy for the basics of everything office work. However, try to drop in heavy 3D graphics and rendering, and you might as well go home to a desktop. L110 is good for all the basics, but don't bother trying anything heavier than basic MP3 encoding or else you'll be waiting hours for the slow processor. However, on win98se, the L110 does run snappily enough that I'm quite happy with it as a word processor, internet, map and routing, MP3 encoder mini-note. -- Alternative that's my #1 recommend for today? Fujitisu P-series $1499, 800Mhz crusoe cpu, built-in CD-RW, about the same range as the L and the Picturebook. www.fujitsupc.com Love the built-in CD-RW/DVD drive and can't imagine buying anything for $1499 that doesn't have a built-in drive!
