First thing I'd ask them is to check that the 2.5 IDE/flash adapter is
actually 9.5mm tall or less. Otherwise, it won't fit, which is the sad case
for all of the other IDE to CF adapters I've searched for before.

I did ask. They didn't tell me and said it fits a 'standard' 2.5 slot
 whatever that is.

That isn't good enough to tell.

There's standard 12mm high 2.5 HD slots and drives, as well as 9.5mm HD
slots and drives. Most big laptops come with 12mm high slots, although lately,
many of the latest have been slimming down.

Hmmm..since they won't tell me I'll email their sales and tell them I
won't order one until they tell me the height.VBG The thing about it
is these PCMCIA to IDE adapters aren't too complex. They are just a
board with a logic chip and two connectors. The thickness of the board
and connectors should easily be under 9.5 mm. If it is too thick that
means they made the housing too high. remove the board from the
housing and it might fit in just fine if it was stuck in a 9.5 mm
housing.

Some talk on this last year on the Libretto Mailing List archives.

Anyways, the only workable solution thus far given the lack of =9.5mm
adapaters are the SanDisk 2.5 IDE FlashDrives. You can buy up to 2GB models
today at www.buy.com and they will work just like regular IDE HDs in the Librettos.

Those are too expensive plus they are only 2 gig. I did get the specs
on the adtron 2.5 adapter and it is 9.6 mm. Close.

Well this is what MagicRam told me about the size of the adapter
without telling me anything specific about the size.

Forwarded message:

It should fit.

I have a 2.5 inch slot in my Libretto but I don't know what a standard
2.5 inch is. I know it fits a 9.5 mm high drive. How high is your
adapter?

I was looking at your site and saw these. I am interested in replacing
the 2.5 inch 9.5 mm hard drive in my Toshiba Libretto with one so I
can use PC Card hard drives until compact flash capacity gets great
enough so I can use those. Mainly I need it for shock resistance so my
hard drive doesn't get messed up from impact. Workable or not? TIA

John
