I would like to copy W95 from the original Toshiba Companion CD, which accompanied the 100CT when purchased, to the new HDD. This CD is bootable, so is it possible to simply copy the W95 directory on it to my new HDD and run setup from there? Thanks, this may be the first in a whole series of novice-grade questions. Lee Hey Lee... I'm guessing that since you've been following the list posts, that you're aware of dealing with the 8.4GB hibernation area on the new 20GB HDD, right? If not, there's amble info in the archiove of recent posts. I'll be playing with this myself soon. Good luck getting your OS set up. If you have any Windows 95, or Windows 98 installation disks, you can use them as well, and just download the necessary 100CT drivers from the Toshiba support website. I've installed Windows 95 and Windows 98 on several hard drives for my 50CT and 70CT, and have no terrible problems to speak of. I was able to copy system files (made on another system) and CD-ROM drivers to my new HDD via floppy, boot the HDD to the C:\ DOS prompt, then access a Windows 98 disk from the D:\ CD-ROM drive, and then run setup.exe from there. However the majority of CD-ROM drives don't seem to have drivers that enable this. I was lucky I guess. There are several approaches you can take to installing Windows to your new HDD, most of which you'll find in the archives (http://www.technoir.nu/libretto/list/). I'm not familiar with setting up a Toshiba companion CD. But any way you decide to go, if you have any problems, we'll be glad to help out. This CD is bootable, so is it possible to simply copy the W95 directory on it to my new HDD and run setup from there? If you're lucky then all that companion CD is is a copy of the win98 directory plus some drivers. If you're unlucky (and most likely given this is how Toshiba's later laptops had their companion CDs) the CD contains a hard disk drive image (similar to Norton Ghost images). As a result, the only way it'll get onto the libby is by booting off that CD which poses 2 problems, 1: your libby must have a CD-ROM drive and 2: you must find a way of booting from it (which doesn't actually exist!). Have a look on the CD on your desktop, it might have a readme file (I'm assuming the bods who put the CD together realize both these problems). Worst comes to the worst what you CAN do is either take your original hard drive and use a utility such as Norton Ghost or Powerquest DriveImage to copy th partitions onto the new ones after you've partitioned the new one in the libby (don't partition it in a desktop, it may not realize it needs to put the hibernation partition on there). Look up the archive for partitioning schemes ... Looks like I'll be doing the same thing as you once the supplier gets Fujitsu 20 gig drives in stock at the end of the week! - Raymond --- /~\ | | Does fuzzy logic tickle?| | ___ | My HDD has no reverse.
