Not possible on most of the older L20-110 Librettos since they simply didn't
put in UDMA mode for the HDs.

Thanks a lot, Matt and David.

- Most of the startup apps were removed and I have now 83% of "system
resources" (war around 50%). Great. The improvement is noticeable.
- No virus nor hacks, I guess. AVG is always updated and Zone Alarm is
active during internet connections.
- How do I turn on the DMA mode for the new HD?
Press Window-Break to bring up system properties, go hardware>device
manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers>Primary IDE Channel>advanced settings,
make sure both are on "DMA if available", reboot them make sure "Current
transfer mode" is DMA. I think there are some rare circumstances where old
settings stick here, I can't remember how to get around those, perhaps
someone else might be able to shed some light?

- No idea if something was damaged when the HD was replaced. I believe it
was not, since no big difference in the Lib behavior was noticed after the
HD replacement (except the one in question). But .. I have a problem
when it is switched on docked (enhanced replicator). Sometimes a "KBC error"
message is displaied right after the ON switch is pressed and it hangs. I
have no idea what this error means. But if I switch off/on 2 or 3 times is
starts fine. Or if I undock/dock 2 or 3 times. And it always starts fine
when undocked. Can this be an indication that something was damaged? Or a
bad contact between the Lib and the replicator?
I've had this sorta thing happen with a loose memory module, try flipping
the keyboard up and reseating the memory expansion module (if you've got
one installed) ... perhaps your module is loose and plugging into the EPR
warps the motherboard just enough to cause it to sometimes lose contact?
The alternative is your KBC is dying (I had a Tecra 500CDT with a similar
problem), unfortunately I've not found a way to recover from that one ...

Run sfc and have it check the system files. Sounds

Retransmitting - I didn't see the mesasage bellow.

Tks,

Lazar... I wonder if you're having the same problems receiving Libretto
list messages that I am. Days, and sometimes weeks will go by, and I get no
mail from the list that most other members are getting. I have to go to the
archives to read mail, and all the posts there are at least a couple days
old.

But here's my reply to your original post, as well as one from David Chien.
Let me know if you've received these already:

I do not write often to this list, but I read most of the messages. And I
need now some help.
I recently have changed the 4.3G HD by a 20G HD in my Lib 110 (64M RAM,
WIN98SE). Windows, all the Lib drivers and my programs were installed from
scratch. The problem I'm having is that the Lib is very slow. (very, very,
very). As an exemple, it spends around 1,5 minutes to open/change a Window
Explorer window. I am not an expert in configuring Windows, but I think
that
the configuration files could be changed for improvements, mainly in
memory
management. An indication that something is wrong in those files can be
that, when booting with an IBM Microdrive inserted in the PCMCIA slot, I
get
a STACK OVERFLOW error message, and the boot stops. No trouble when
inserting the microdrive after the boot is completed.

The current configuration files ara attached.

Thanks in advance for any help and a great Christmas and New Year for you

You may have a bunch of apps starting. Is there a bunch of icons sitting

1) turn on DMA mode for this drive.
2) make sure you didn't damage the motherboard or RAM chips above the HD
bay
when you inserted the new HD. it can happen and others, rarely, have
killed
their librettos such.
3) make sure there's no virus on your computer.
