Sorry, I don't mean to be mean about this but shouldn't that be
1500-1600mAh LiIon cells? I don't think the charging circuit in the
libretto can handle NiMH.
Oh man stack up insomnia, sleep deprivation, and blurry vision and you
have a head that's computing worse that a corrupted Win3.11 system. 8-0
Yes... LiIon cells, as it says on the Sabah Oceanic web page.

Of course the other thing to remember is you've got these in parallel so
the effective capacity of the whole pack will be 3000-3200mAh which is
still an improvement over the original capacity ...
OH! Really? So the pack strings 2 sets of 3 cells in series, and then
connects those 2 sets in parallel eh? I've never been in there to see just
how they're connected.

So that means that the cells in the original L50-70 small battery pack may
have been as small as a capcity of 800-1000mah? As I see the larger packs
for 50-70-100-110 are rated at 2400mah, meaning the individual cells would
be rated at 1200mah yes/no?

Sabah Oceanic have the cell dimensions there ... the cells in my Libretto
pack were Panasonic CGR17670HC which are 17mm by 67mm, the current
replacement stocked by Sabah are CGR17670HG which are the same size but a
tiny bit shorter.
Okay great. Thanks for ironing that out for me Raymond. And at US$7.40
per cell x 6 = US$44.40 + shipping. So a lot better price than the $10/cell
I'd been reading in recent posts. And if Saba will still weld them for you,
that sounds the deal.

Don't worry, happens to the best of us :-)

Actually, the cells are paired up in parallel then the pairs are connected
in series. Each pair is tapped into the charging circuit as well.

No, the L50/70 small packs were only 3 cells in series. The L50/70 extended
pack and the L100/110 standard pack are virtually identical and have 6
cells. The original cells used by Toshiba appear to be 1200mAh.

I've just been on the phone to another supplier in Oz (in Western Australia
I've only found ONE supplier who is willing to sell individual LiIon cells
... all the others don't want to because of indemnity ... this supplier
will only sell them if you sign a form saying that if you blow the cells up
it's your problem ... apparently there was a lawsuit here some time ago on
the issue!) ... it looks like if we can get 18mm cells (apparently there
are 18mm and 18.5mm cells) into the pack, you can get cells up to 2200mAh
... which gives a pack with a whopping 4400mAh capacity, almost twice that
of the standard pack! Imagine 8 hours of runtime! Of course, I did forget
to ask if you can charge them with the standard charging circuit but based
on what I know about them I don't think it should be a big problem, the
curves are the same ...

Anyone know if the 18mm cells will fit nicely (perhaps with a bit of
plasticwork) into the Libretto packs?

So are we stuck with 1500-1600mah NiMH cells
That should be 1500-1600mah NiMH cells... I have to proof read 3-4 times,
and rushed the process again.

Also... I can't find the post in my files on just what the cell dimensions
are for the Lib battery packs. I found this post from John in the archives:

John, which cells were originally used in the PA2452 battery? Panasonic CGR
17670? I am thinking of buying the battery and using the cells to fix a
2503
battery for 110. I tried to put 1800 mAh Panasonic cells in it, but they
wouldn't fit.
