Phil,

If it helps, I just plough all the updates on usually. I haven't had any 
problems so far with this.


I cannot remember a libcurl SSH connection issue, but as I say, it works 
for me.

Huh.  I'm running a current version of Ubuntu (with Cinnamon as desktop)
and I have not encountered any problems.  But I can't remember ever
having encountered the problems you mention, so my experience might not
be authoritive for your setup.
