my annual (?) thank you

2018-03-08 Thread Kieren MacMillan
Dear Lilypond Development Team and Mailing List Members,

A few days ago, I delivered yet another Lilypond-engraved score to the
commissioner. He has 300+ new scores submitted to him every year (he’s
well-known in the new chamber music scene), and conducts dozens and dozens of
concerts (of both "new" and "old" music) with orchestras and ensembles of all
kinds — and he outright stated “Nobody’s scores look as great as yours… not
even the scores I get from The A-Listers, published by established print
houses.”

I simply couldn’t get that response without Lilypond (Thank you, Han-Wen and
Jan and David K and the other developers past and present!), Cadence (Thank
you, Abraham!), the edition-engraver (Thank you, Jan-Peter and Urs!), and all
of the incredible help I get on this list especially when I’m scrambling to
meet commission deadlines (Thank you, Davids K & M and Harm and Trevor and
Andrew and Torsten and Carl and a hundred others!).

With gratitude,
Kieren.

Thank you, Graham!

2012-10-12 Thread Janek Warchoł
Graham,

let me express my gratitude for all work you did on LilyPond.
I have to admit that when i began my LilyPond adventure, you seemed to
be scary and unenthusiastic, very down-to-the-earth. However, as the
time passed i have learned that this impression was wrong, and that
you are a vital part of this community, doing lots of work that nobody
else wanted to do, organizing our efforts and introducing order into
Lily development. I believe that your realistic approach was good and
that it saved us a good deal of disappointments and wasted effort.
I have also learned from you, and i'm sure that your leadership (if i
may use this word) will be inspiring to me in the future.

I wish you all the best and i hope that despite your presence on the
mailing lists will be limited, we'll have the opportunity to work
together.

Janek

Thanks for the kind words. I am not much involved with LilyPond
anymore, so forwarding your mail to the development list.

 Hello!

I've found that transcription helps my sight reading, so I've been
spending hours and hours writing out my favorite drum tracks by hand.
I found your software last night and in no time I was spewing out
charts left and right, on my LINUX machine! I love open source
software and I love music, so this program is just about the coolest
thing I've found in a long time. Thanks so much for the work put into
it, it is much appreciated. My only regret is not knowing about it
sooner. You guys should put up a donation link, I'd be glad to send
 some cash your way.

 Your appreciative drummer,

As you hinted, a musician can probably do with just about any old
grouping of notes on a page - but the beauty of fine engraving adds to

 better able to see them.

Ah, but the epitome of good typesetting is inconspicuousness. You are
only made aware of the involved issues by its absence.

Thank you.

2008-08-31 Thread Baruch
Hello:

I just wanted to thank you for this fine piece of work. I've just started
exploring what lilypond can do, and I have to say I am deeply impressed.

It is apparent that you not only are fine programmers, but also that you have a
wonderful sense of the beauty of engraved music. That is something I have
seldom heard discussed, but that I believe is important to those who read music.

Anyway, just thank you for a wonderful program.
