Umm... maybe? Try it in 2.11; if it's still useful there, then
obviously we're keeping it.

If so, then please remove
it, or replace it with a message that says to update the ~/bin run scripts.

Did you know that instead of editing your .profile to set environment

I don't understand -- modifying .profile will effect the environment for

you can set them globally for
every program by creating a environment.plist in ~/.MacOSX with the
following content:

PATH

The bash way (ie the standard unix way) looks a lot simpler. In
addition, anybody familiar with unix will already know how to do it.

I hope that you are aware that 2.11 is the unstable development version.
You have fallen afoul of a bug in the new spacing code. For serious
typesetting work, we recommend using 2.10.

If you could create a minimal example of this problem, it would help us
to improve the 2.11 series. For details, see

ignoring between-system-padding

2007-03-17 Thread jim altieri

Hi,
I'm going a little batty trying to fine-tune the vertical spacing on
my score. It's too complex to include here, but suffice to say, when I
typeset the file, I get the following warning:

warning: Can't fit systems on page -- ignoring between-system-padding
What is the code equivalent of, "Please, LilyPond, stop ignoring me?"
I'd really like it to use at least a certain padding between systems,
otherwise use fewer systems per page. As of now, I don't have explicit
line or system breaks.

 I'm using 2.11.20, on MacOSX.
thanks,
jim altieri

You can read the manual, but I understand that it's sometimes tough to get
started. Lilypond works more like a programming language. I am assuming that
the newer version work similar to the version I use (2.6.5).

You create your script file with any text editor, but make sure it is plain
text (a word processing program will add garbage that LP will not recognize).
Save the text file with a ".ly" extension, and if the program is installed
correctly you should be able to double click on the file icon in Windows
Explorer to invoke Lilypond. You can also right click on the file and you
should see "Generate PDF".

There is a command line you can use also, but it took me a while to find it so
I could add it into my own editor. From what I gather the newer LP versions
have a decent editor that comes with the install, or maybe you have to go and
get it separately?

2007/3/16, Trevor Bača <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Unfortunately I just don't know much of anything, really, about font
management on my operating system; it's just a shielded resource in
most applications other that Lily.

Does anyone see an obviously missing directory in the above output
that would explain why I'm getting mostly regular style fonts instead
of italic and bold?

Mac uses something called dfonts, which mean that all 4 versions of
the font come inside one file. Lily will unpack the right font from
the dfont, but fontconfig doesn't look inside them.

Solution: use fondu to extract fonts to separate .ttfs yourself, and
put them in the ~/.fonts directory.

It looks like you don't have a font with the undertie character, U+203f; see
section 7.3.2 of the manual. Try installing, for example, DejaVu LGC Sans,
available at http://dejavu.sourceforge.net .

Good luck!

Thank You Fred for your words, I send this because i have the feel
that I do not explain very clear. Then I go again:
In the News section for the "2.10.20" version of Lilypond appears the
following ("Lyrics text may include tie symbols by using the ~
symbol).
In my example Canta...ly. the error happens in altoWords when I use
the "~" to tie the word can-ta~a -- etc. the tie never appear. that's
all . May be as You said is a bug for Windows users.
When I remove the "~" symbol from the alto Words Lilypond becomes to
normally again. and the Log becomes clearly ,with no errors.

Thank You again.

Re: Problem with lyrics

2007-03-17 Thread Fred Leason

Hello again, Cesar:

On OS X (lilypond 2.11.19) your file processed fine in lilypond and
created a postscript file. But ghostscript was not able to create a
PDF. Strangely, when I simplified the name of the file to Canta.ly
everything worked fine. My SWAG is try renaming the .ly file.

The UTF-8 codes worked fine in lyrics and titles.

And BTW, remove the leading space before the word "synth" from your "
\set Staff.midiInstrument = " synth voice" " statement.

Nice work. Fred
