Here is a short LY file. (see below)

I would like to enter lyrics in order to have three red words aligned with the notes

In fact, I would like to enter a long score with some few sections higlighted

Dear Mats,

Thank you very much!

I had noticed the content of this user guide section, but without grasping that
it was a solution to the issue I was trying to solve.

I have just reviewed it and I'm sure it is helpful!

However, I would like to share this thought with you all : this is a common
problem when starting with such a new tool. You sometimes try to solve a
problem as a human engraver, but is difficult to establish a link between you
problem and the technical resources at hand! Maybe this is the definition of
the word newbie... :--))

In the temporary-stave.ly you can use
   \new TemporaryStaff = Two {
 \set Staff.alignAboveContext = One
 c4 c8 d e4 f | c d e f |
 c c c c | c c c8 b c b |}
to get what you want. Unfortunately, this feature isn't described in the
main manual yet.

 I extracted the fonts to the c:\windows\fonts folder (where all the
 fonts are located), and lilypond were able to use them without
 touching anything. I don't know if it'll be as easy for you.

Thank you, Jose! With this information and some Googling I've finally
resolved the issue. For the record, here's what I had to do for the
FreeBSD package (and I assume it's similar for the other *nix's).

1) Install the x11-fonts/dejavu port. This should install the fonts
somewhere like /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/dejavu.

2) Open the file LILYPONDBASE/usr/etc/fonts/local.conf and add the
following line just after the 'fontconfig' line. (Adjust as necessary
for your hierarchy.)
  dir/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/dir

All your system fonts should now be accessible! Do a 'lilypond
-dshow-available-fonts any' to be sure. Below is the updated snippet
that now displays the lyric tie as it should:

\version 2.10.0
\paper {
   #(set-default-paper-size letter)
   #(define fonts (make-pango-font-tree DejaVu Serif
DejaVu Sans
DejaVu Sans Mono

Re: Line breaks in any place

2007-04-03 Thread Mats Bengtsson

One possibility is to use
\set Timing.barAlways = ##t
\set Timing.defaultBarType =
See the example called bar-always.ly in the Tips and Tricks
document. Of course, this means that you have to manually
add the true bar lines where you want them (if you want
regular time, that's easily done using
\repeat unfold 20 {s1 \bar | }
in parallel to the ordinary music).

Divisi Lyrics

2007-04-03 Thread Latomus
Hello,

I have reworked the ly file taking into account what I learned from the user
guide section devoted to divisi lyrics.

Additional question.

I have found out how to align some particular lyrics to some particular parts
of the music expression by using divisi lyrics

I have found out how to change colors and how to revert to the previous
settings for the split part and how to make the main part transparent.

However, I'm still wondering how to avoid that the dot appears twice on the
score (once for the main music expression and once for the split part)

Second question : would it be possible (by using the override command?!?!) to
change the color of this dot?

Thanks a lot

Re: Divisi Lyrics

2007-04-03 Thread Mats Bengtsson

You have made things unnecessarily complicated. There's
no need to repeat the same music using invisible notes.
Also, since you use separat Voice contexts for the colored
sections, there's no need to revert the settings in the
melody Voice context. Here's a simplified version of your
file (which also gives colored dots):

\version 2.10.10
\score {

\new Voice = melody \relative c'' {
\clef treble
\key g \minor
\time 3/4
\partial 8*3
g8 g a |
\new Voice = splitpartA {
 \override NoteHead #'color = #red
 \override Stem #'color = #red
 \override Beam #'color = #red
 \override Dots #'color = #red
 bes4 bes4. bes8 |
}
bes4 a bes8 c | d4 c a8 bes |
\new Voice = splitpartB{
 \override NoteHead #'color = #blue
 \override Stem #'color = #blue
 \override Beam #'color = #blue
 \override Dots #'color = #blue

}

}

This isn't supported within LilyPond, but at least for the PS

As you are using relative pitch for the notes, each note is put in the
octave closest to the previous one. This is done regardless of where
the previous note occured, so it doesn't matter that it might be in a
different chord. In your example, the 'si' in the second chord is put
close to the 'mi' in the previous chord, which happens to be an octave
below the 'si' in the first chord. To solve this, you need to
explicitly put it back up an octave:

fragA =
  {si do mi si' do mi la' do mi la' do mi} \\
  {la',,}

Note the inverted commas after the first note in each chord.

Hope this helps,

Joe.
